The Villainess's Heartthrob Script: I Can Talk to Animals

Chapter 675: Picking Up Pippi

Chapter 675: Chapter 675: Picking Up Pippi

Evening Maple didn’t speak, but Sunny barked excitedly, "WOOF! It’s Chansford! That bad guy Chansford!"

Hearing Sunny’s barks, Lana’s voice grew anxious. "Mom, just tell me, please?"

Evening Maple wrung her hands, her expression troubled.

She really didn’t want this incident to affect the relationship between her children.

"Mom!" Lana knelt directly in front of her, pleading, "I’m your daughter. I’m begging you, don’t hide this from me! Please!"

"Lana, don’t be like this." Evening Maple’s expression changed, and she quickly reached out to help her up. "Get up first."

"No." Lana shook her head, her tone stubborn. "Mom, I’m not getting up until you tell me."

Evening Maple sighed. "Alright. Lana, get up. Mom will tell you."

Only then did Lana rise from the floor and sit beside Renee Jennings, staring intently at her mother. "Mom, tell me. What’s wrong with the medicine?"

"This streamer can understand what Buddy says." Evening Maple gestured to Renee Jennings. "Last night, I connected to her stream..."

"The streamer was worried about my health last night, so she didn’t tell me the whole truth. She only said the medicine was expired."

Hearing this, Lana immediately put her palms together in a gesture of thanks toward Renee Jennings.

Renee Jennings smiled back at her in acknowledgment.

"But the streamer just told me the medicine wasn’t actually expired." Evening Maple’s gaze fell on the family photo on the TV stand, and her tone became despondent again. "Your brother switched the medicine."

Lana frowned in confusion. "What do you mean? Are you saying my brother switched your high blood pressure medication?"

"Yes." Evening Maple nodded dejectedly.

Anger instantly flared in Lana’s eyes. "What did he replace your high blood pressure medicine with?"

Evening Maple said, "I don’t know."

Renee Jennings chimed in at the right moment, "To determine the exact components of the replacement pills, they’ll need to be sent to a medical facility for testing."

"Where is that bottle of pills?" Lana’s eyes were red with anger as she spoke through gritted teeth. "It doesn’t matter what he replaced it with. He should never have done something like this!"

"Lana, Mom’s fine," Evening Maple said softly. "Don’t be angry."

Lana clenched her fists. "Mom, this is serious! How can you say it’s fine?"

She looked at Renee Jennings again, her eyes filled with urgent worry. "Streamer, did Buddy hear why he switched my mom’s medicine?"

Renee Jennings glanced at Evening Maple, then told Lana the truth directly.

Upon learning the real reason, Lana found it laughable. "This is absurd! It’s attempted murder for money!"

"Lana," Evening Maple squeezed her daughter’s hand, choking back a sob. "Don’t talk about your brother like that. He... he was just momentarily confused."

Hearing this, Renee Jennings frowned slightly.

’Evening Maple spoils that son of hers way too much.’

"Momentarily confused?" Lana shook her head in disappointment, letting out a self-mocking laugh. "Ever since we were kids, no matter what he did wrong, you’ve always had this attitude. But this time it’s a matter of life and death!"

Her voice gradually grew heavy with suppressed resentment and lingering fear. "If Buddy hadn’t noticed, if you hadn’t met this streamer, do you have any idea how serious the consequences could have been? Do you know that if you don’t take your high blood pressure medication, an accident could happen at any moment?"

"I..." Evening Maple opened her mouth but was at a loss for words.

Renee Jennings and Sawyer stood up. "The medicine is next to Buddy," Renee said gently. "You two should talk this over. We won’t disturb you any further. If you need any help, you can contact me."

She jotted down her contact information on a sticky note.

Lana saw them to the door and bowed deeply. "Streamer, Officer, thank you so much for your care and concern for my mother!"

Renee Jennings nodded slightly and smiled. "It was nothing. Your mother probably hasn’t fully processed this yet. Try to talk to her patiently. Goodbye."

After they went downstairs, the fresh air hit them. Sawyer took a deep breath and let it out, remarking, "That little old lady really dotes on her son too much."

"Yeah," Renee Jennings said with a helpless expression. "I hope she comes to her senses."

Once in the car, Sawyer fastened his seatbelt and said, "Her daughter must be exhausted from all this."

"I think so too." Renee Jennings nodded in agreement, started the car, and asked, "Are you hungry?"

"Not really."

"Do you have anything else you need to do?"

"The boss said I’m to follow your lead today."

Renee Jennings raised an eyebrow, a faint smile playing on her lips. "Then let’s go eat first."

The car hadn’t been driving for long when her phone rang.

Renee Jennings glanced at the caller ID—it was Michelle Fuller. "Sawyer, can you get that for me? It’s Michelle."

"Sure." Sawyer picked up the phone from the center console, answered the call, and said with a smile, "Michelle, it’s Sawyer. Renee is driving right now."

Hearing it was Sawyer, Michelle Fuller’s tone instantly became more enthusiastic. "Sawyer, you’re with Renee? Are you two busy today? If not, let me treat you to a meal."

Sawyer put the call on speaker and said to Renee Jennings, "Michelle is asking if we’re busy and wants to treat us to a meal."

Renee Jennings’s lips curved into a grin. "Michelle, get ready and head out. Lunch is on me."

"Okay, where are we eating?" Michelle Fuller, who had still been lazing in bed, immediately shot upright.

"Let’s go to The Onyx Lounge."

"OK, see you in a bit~"

"Okay."

Sawyer chuckled. "Michelle, see you in a bit then."

Michelle Fuller’s voice became even sweeter. "Sawyer, see you in a bit~"

Before hanging up, Michelle Fuller’s eyes sparkled as she quickly asked, "Do you mind if I bring Sean along?"

Sawyer replied, "Of course not."

"That’s great!" Michelle Fuller ended the call and immediately ran upstairs to wake Sean Fuller.

"Where are we going?" Sean Fuller yawned, emerging from under the covers with a messy bedhead. "I’m so sleepy. Can I not go?"

Michelle Fuller said, "No. I’m going out to eat, and you have to drive me."

"Don’t you know how to drive?"

"I feel like being chauffeured by you today."

His sister had put it that way, so Sean Fuller felt it would be wrong to refuse again.

"I get it. I’m getting up."

Only then did Michelle Fuller smile in satisfaction. "Now that’s my good little brother."

The Onyx Lounge was a garden-style restaurant. Renee Jennings parked the car, and she and Sawyer found a table in a pavilion. Next to them were flowers blooming in profusion and a small waterfall feature, the sound of trickling water filling the air.

Renee Jennings handed the menu to Sawyer. "Take a look at what you want to eat. I’ll ask Michelle where she is."

She opened WeChat, and the first thing she saw was a message from Freya Sterling.

[Stella: Renee, my roommate and I moved into a new rental, and she agreed to let me have a dog. I can finally bring Pippi to live with me! When are you free, Renee? I’d like to treat you to a meal to thank you for taking such good care of Pippi this past year, and I can pick him up then.]

A gentle smile spread across Renee Jennings’s lips, and her eyes sparkled with a soft light.

’If Pippi knew this good news, he’d be jumping for joy.’
