The Villainess's Heartthrob Script: I Can Talk to Animals

Chapter 674: You Are in Great Danger

Chapter 674: Chapter 674: You Are in Great Danger

After Renee Jennings finished speaking, she carefully observed Evening Maple’s expression.

The woman’s expression went blank for a moment. Her eyes gradually grew moist as she asked in a trembling voice, "What... what did you just say? I didn’t hear you clearly."

Renee Jennings was silent for a few seconds before repeating what she had just said.

Evening Maple’s lips trembled, her voice tinged with tears. "They actually swapped my high blood pressure medication?"

Renee Jennings glanced sideways at the dejected furry little guy. "Buddy was the one who discovered it. That’s why he stopped you from taking the medicine."

"So that’s what happened." Evening Maple gazed at Sunny, reaching out to gently stroke his head. A faint smile touched her lips. "Thank you, Buddy."

After speaking, she fell silent. The emotions she had been fighting to hold back finally broke through, and two streams of tears slid silently from the corners of her eyes.

Seeing this, Sunny quickly nudged her gently with his head, whining comfortingly, "WOOF! Grandma, don’t be sad!"

Evening Maple continued to stroke Sunny’s head, her gaze fixed on the medicine bottle. "Can it be sent for testing?"

Before Renee Jennings could speak, the woman lowered her head again, her voice filled with despair. "Why did they switch my medicine? Are they hoping I live longer, or are they hoping I die sooner?"

Renee Jennings and Sawyer exchanged a look, unsure of how to comfort her.

Evening Maple spoke again, her voice hollow. "Did they say why? Why did they switch my medicine?"

Renee Jennings hesitated for two seconds before saying softly, "Ma’am, have you been saving up a kilogram of gold?"

Hearing this, Evening Maple was stunned for a long moment, then laughed mockingly. "So it’s because of this kilogram of gold that they switched my medicine? Hoping I’d die sooner so they could inherit a kilogram of gold?"

Renee Jennings said, "Buddy overheard their conversation. They want to move to a bigger house. Since you weren’t willing to use the gold to help them through their difficulties, they decided they had to find a way themselves."

Evening Maple let out a long sigh, a sorrowful smile on her face. "I truly never thought they would go this far for money!"

Renee Jennings pulled out two tissues and handed them to her, but she couldn’t find any words of comfort.

’How could I possibly comfort her?’

’Her own son was hoping she’d die, all for money...’

Evening Maple took the tissues and wiped away her tears, a bitter smile on her face. "I know they want to move. I know they’re short on money, and I really wanted to help them, but there was truly nothing I could do."

She looked at Renee Jennings and Sawyer and explained, "I don’t have a kilogram of gold. We saved up a little gold when we were young, but I used it to help them buy a house back when my son got married."

"That whole kilogram of gold thing was just a story my husband made up before he died. He was afraid our son and daughter-in-law wouldn’t treat me well, so he thought that for the sake of the gold, they might be a little more dutiful toward me."

Renee Jennings frowned slightly, a flash of astonishment in her eyes. She never would have expected this to be the situation.

Evening Maple’s husband had tried to use the kilogram of gold to ensure his wife would be well cared for, but he never imagined that the same kilogram of gold would nearly get her killed.

"Ma’am, what are you thinking now?" Sawyer asked. "Do you want to report them to the police?"

"Report them?" Evening Maple’s brow furrowed tightly, her heart aching. "I can’t bear to do it."

Even though her son wanted her dead, she still couldn’t bring herself to send him to prison.

Renee Jennings said worriedly, "Ma’am, this is very dangerous for you. What if your son resorts to even worse methods later?"

A trace of hesitation flickered across Evening Maple’s face.

Just then, her cell phone rang.

Evening Maple picked up her phone. "It’s a video call from my daughter."

She didn’t answer, declining the call and sending a voice message back: "Lana, I have friends over right now. I’ll call you back later."

However, after the message was sent, Lana immediately started another video call.

Seeing this, Renee Jennings chuckled. "Ma’am, you should answer. Don’t make your daughter worry."

"Alright, I’ll see what she wants." After saying this, Evening Maple finally answered the call, forcing a gentle smile. "Lana, what’s wrong?"

"Mom, did you call into a live stream last night?" Lana asked.

Evening Maple froze for a couple of seconds, surprised. "Lana, you saw it?"

"A friend of mine saw it, said it looked a lot like you, and sent me a screenshot." On the other end of the screen, Lana was frowning deeply. "Mom, what’s wrong with your high blood pressure medication?"

"Lana, it’s alright now," Evening Maple explained softly. "I already ordered new medicine online last night. You don’t need to worry."

"No." Lana’s tone was firm and clear. "I have a really bad feeling about this. I’m already on my way to Zenvia."

Hearing this, Evening Maple could only nod. "Alright, then. Be careful on the road. We’ll talk when you get here."

"Okay, I know. Don’t worry," Lana replied.

After the video call ended, Renee Jennings spoke up. "Ma’am, it seems like Lana really cares about you."

"Yes." A comforting smile appeared on Evening Maple’s face, and her expression softened. "Lana has been a good, sensible child since she was little. She was always so dutiful to me and her father."

"Ma’am, why don’t you go live with your daughter?" Sawyer asked, voicing the question on her mind.

’It would be so much better to live with her kind and dutiful daughter than to stay here waiting for an ungrateful son who only visited once a month.’

"Lana often asks me to come to Lynfell, but she has her own little family now. I don’t want to be a distraction." As Evening Maple spoke, she glanced around the small apartment. "Besides, I’ve lived here for most of my life. I’m used to it. I can’t bear to leave."

Renee Jennings and Sawyer were still young and couldn’t quite understand her way of thinking.

The two of them fell silent.

After a moment, Renee Jennings asked, "Ma’am, are you going to tell Lana about your son swapping your high blood pressure medication?"

Evening Maple knit her brows, hesitating for a few seconds before finally shaking her head. "I think... let’s not say anything for now. I need to think about it."

Sawyer frowned, saying with a sigh, "Ma’am, I really advise you not to hide this."

Evening Maple opened her mouth, but ultimately just lowered her head.

Sunny rested his furry head on her lap and let out a soft whine. "WOOF! Grandma, you have to be okay!"

Half an hour later, Evening Maple’s daughter, Lana, unlocked the door with her key.

Walking into the living room, she saw two young women sitting on the sofa. She paused for a moment, then offered a polite smile. "Hello, are you the streamer who was on a call with my mother yesterday?"

"Hello, I’m Renee Jennings, the streamer from yesterday." Renee Jennings stood up to greet her. "This is my friend, Officer Sawyer."

Hearing this, Lana subconsciously asked, "There’s a problem with my mother’s medicine, isn’t there?"

’There must be a problem for a police officer to be here.’

Renee Jennings pressed her lips together, her gaze falling on Evening Maple.

Seeing this, Lana immediately knelt in front of her mother and asked urgently, "Mom, you have to tell me what’s going on. This isn’t something small."
