Chapter 663: Such a Huge Group of Cats
Chapter 663: Chapter 663: Such a Huge Group of Cats
Blondie listened to his coworkers’ accusations, his head a complete mess.
He roared in frustration, "Stop yelling at me! Just let me think, will you?"
At his words, his coworkers immediately fell silent.
Blondie began to think back carefully.
A rainy day, a cigarette, the convenience store kid, pitch-black, a big rat...
Blondie’s brow furrowed tighter and tighter. He looked at Matcha Head and asked in disbelief, "Bro, don’t tell me the ’mob boss’ you were talking about is a black cat?"
"Remember now?" Matcha Head sneered.
The heart that had been lodged in Blondie’s throat instantly dropped. Looking completely exasperated, he said, "Bro, you scared the hell out of me! I thought I’d actually pissed off a gang. After all that, it turns out it was just a cat."
"What? A cat?"
"Huh? The black cat is just a cat?"
"So not a mob boss?"
"..."
Matcha Head pushed aside the chattering heads next to him, his expression grave. "This is serious, okay? What’s with your attitude?"
Blondie said helplessly, "Bro, all I said was that the black cat looked disgusting. What’s the big deal..."
"You..." Matcha Head was furious. He took a deep breath to suppress his anger. "Because of what you said, that black cat got dumped by his girlfriend, the white cat! He called up his friends and family for revenge. All that cat crap and garbage at the front of the store every day—have you not seen it?"
Blondie said dismissively, "That black cat is so petty. He gets dumped by his girlfriend and blames me? Yeah, I’ve seen the cat crap and the garbage. Just have someone clean it up."
Matcha Head snapped, "And cleaning it up doesn’t cost money? Or are you going to be the one to clean it?"
"No, no, no." Blondie immediately put on an ingratiating smile. "Bro, don’t be like that. I’m allergic to cat crap."
Matcha Head said, "You’d better fix your attitude, think about what you did wrong, and then come with me to give that black cat a proper apology. After that, you’ll treat it and its friends and family to food for three months. Only then will this whole thing be over."
The smile on Blondie’s face instantly froze. "Bro, what did you just say? Apologize to a black cat, and treat them to food for three months?"
"That’s right." Matcha Head nodded gravely.
Blondie reached out to feel his forehead. "Bro, are you running a fever?"
Matcha Head slapped his hand away, his anger simmering. "I asked a major streamer for help with this! Don’t you dare treat this like a joke! Otherwise, we’ll be opening up to cat crap and garbage every single day. We’ll go out of business sooner or later!"
"What major streamer?" Blondie asked curiously.
Matcha Head replied, "The animal streamer, Renee Jennings. You must’ve come across her."
Blondie froze for a moment, then quickly said, "Bro, did Ms. Jennings really say that?"
Matcha Head nodded. "Yes. All that cat crap and garbage is revenge against you!"
Blondie was silent for two seconds, then looked up and asked, "How do you want me to apologize? I’ll go apologize to the black cat right now!"
Renee, listening on the other end of the phone, was rather surprised.
’Is my name really that powerful?’
To think it could make the dismissive Blondie so eager to offer a humble apology.
"Wait a minute." Matcha Head stopped him. "The black cat said your apology has to be sincere. If you’re not genuinely sorry, it won’t agree to a truce."
Blondie declared, "I’ll definitely be sincere!"
Only then did Renee slowly speak up. "In that case, rehearse it once in the live stream first."
"Is that Ms. Jennings?" Blondie’s eyes suddenly lit up. He snatched the phone, overcome with excitement. "Ms. Jennings, I’m a fan! I’ve loved you ever since you rode that tiger!"
Renee raised an eyebrow and gave a faint smile. "Thank you. Now, you can start your apology."
"Gimme that!" Matcha Head snatched the phone back. "Host Jennings told you to apologize, so hurry up!"
Blondie put on a simple, honest act and raised his voice. "Black Cat, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have made fun of you for being disgustingly pitch-black while you were with your girlfriend. And I definitely shouldn’t have said you look like a big rat. Please forgive me!"
When he finished, he quickly looked toward Matcha Head’s phone. "Ms. Jennings, was that sincere enough?"
Renee’s tone was flat. "To be honest, not at all."
[Yeah, that was so half-assed!]
[Zero sincerity whatsoever.]
[And you expect the black cat to forgive you for *that*? LMAO]
"Huh?" Blondie frowned. "That’s still not sincere enough? Then what should I do?"
Renee said, "The black cat is angry because of what you said, yet when you apologize, you’re still attacking its appearance. How could it forgive you? Also, you’re supposed to be apologizing to it, not writing a self-criticism report."
Blondie quickly waved his hands and explained, "Ms. Jennings, you’ve misunderstood. I’m not attacking its looks. I didn’t mean any harm. I just have a sharp tongue."
Hearing this, Renee nodded. "Then do it again."
"Okay, let me think." Blondie stared at the ceiling for a good while, then gave a deep bow toward the camera.
"Black Cat, I’m sorry we had to meet this way. I’ve had a sharp tongue my whole life, and I accidentally hurt you with my words that day. I’m truly very sorry!"
"I honestly didn’t think those words would affect your relationship with the white cat. I’m so, so sorry! I’ve realized my mistake and hope you can give me a chance to turn over a new leaf!"
As he finished speaking, Blondie bowed deeply again.
[That’s more like it!]
[There’s a huge difference between being heartfelt and not.]
Blondie straightened up, looking expectantly toward Matcha Head’s phone. "Ms. Jennings, was that sincere enough?"
A faint hint of a smile had entered Renee’s voice. "That’ll do."
Blondie instantly let out a sigh of relief. "That’s a load off my mind."
"Let’s go. I’ll take you to apologize to the black cat." Matcha Head was the first to walk toward the door.
Blondie hurried to follow.
Turning into the alley next to the fruit store, Matcha Head jumped in fright.
When he had come by earlier, there were only five or six stray cats. Now, there was a dense, massive crowd of them.
Blondie was scared too, so much so that he started to stammer, "Th-that’s... so... many..."
The black cat was surrounded by a cluster of other cats, like a king on his throne. Its golden eyes were half-lidded as it sized up Blondie with contempt and arrogance.
Renee’s voice was gentle. "Kitty, Blondie is here to apologize to you."
"MEOW! Fine!" The black cat lifted its chin. "MEOW! Let him speak!"
Renee prompted, "You can speak now."
Deep down, Blondie had still felt that apologizing to a cat was a bit humiliating, but now, seeing such an enormous clowder of cats, he didn’t dare think that way anymore.
He looked at the black cat and gave a deep bow.
This apology had quite a bit more genuine emotion than the last one.
The black cat was more or less satisfied. The tip of its tail swept slowly across the ground. "MEOW MEOW MEOW! You promised to provide us with food for three months! Deliver it here on time every day, and provide enough food for the number of cats here today!"
Renee relayed its words.
Blondie nodded repeatedly in assurance. "Okay, okay, I’ll have the food delivered on time every day."
The black cat nodded its head in satisfaction. Its golden eyes looked toward Matcha Head’s phone as it said proudly, "MEOW! Thanks, lady!"
