The man, despite being a top expert from the State of Jin, was actually sent flying by a single kick, utterly incapable of fighting back or even putting up a proper defense.

In just the blink of an eye, two highly skilled experts had already fallen.

Gongsun Yu’s expression grew colder and more severe.

Though he possessed a strikingly handsome face, in his youth he had shared a similar experience with Xuanyuan Sheng. Both of them had often been mocked for looking like little girls.

But after growing up, the two of them had each become fierce and renowned generals on the battlefield, known far and wide for their martial prowess.

The difference, however, was that Xuanyuan Sheng harbored light in his heart, while Gongsun Yu’s had long since been consumed by darkness.

Gongsun Yu stared icily at the two figures who had appeared out of nowhere.

One of them was a youth no more than seventeen or eighteen, dressed in dark robes, with a long sword at his waist and a face as cold as ice; he was the one who had just severed the guard’s hand.

His strike had been so swift and precise that he had managed to succeed right under Gongsun Yu’s very nose.

The other person was clad in Great Yan’s military armor, wielding a long saber that gleamed with an ominous black light.

The saber was stabbed into the ground, and his hands rested on the hilt in an almost casual manner.

The passageway seemed slightly low for his height, so he tilted his head slightly to the side; his face was sharp and stern, but in his eyes burned a wild, unrestrained arrogance!

In that instant, the vast, interconnected passageways seemed unable to contain the overwhelming presence radiating from him, and even Gongsun Yu could feel a terrifying pressure bearing down on him.

Gongsun Yu narrowed his eyes slightly, trying to recall which general from the State of Yan this might be, but no name came to mind.

Marquis Xuanping, exuding an aura of authority without the need for anger, spoke in a commanding tone, “Chang Jing, take the person away first.”

“Oh.” Chang Jing replied casually, cradling the barely breathing Shangguan Qing in his arms as he turned and left without hesitation.

Suddenly, Elder Lu let out a startled cry, his voice rising in disbelief, “Chang Jing? You’re that Chang Jing from the Hidden Night Sect?”

Gongsun Yu frowned slightly, puzzled, and turned to glance at him with a questioning look.

Realization dawned on Elder Lu’s face as he stared at Chang Jing and exclaimed, “I knew there was something familiar about your sword and your moves. You… are you really the young master of the Hidden Night Sect?”

It was not surprising that Gongsun Yu didn’t recognize the sword techniques of the Hidden Night Sect, as the sect was a martial organization that operated within the martial world and had no affiliations with the imperial court, whereas the Sword Lodge had once had some dealings with them in the martial world.

Elder Lu had personally visited the Hidden Night Sect before, where he had met Sect Leader Chang Kun as well as his late-born son——the young Chang Jing.

Back then, Chang Jing was not even ten years old, just a tiny child whose frail figure was utterly unrecognizable compared to the tall and poised youth standing before them now.

However, that treasured sword from the Hidden Night Sect was something Elder Lu could still recognize without a doubt.

Chang Jing turned to Elder Lu and said flatly, “Don’t spout nonsense.”

Marquis Xuanping turned his head to glance at Chang Jing, raising an eyebrow as he asked, “The young master of Hidden Night Sect?”

Without so much as a change in expression, Chang Jing replied calmly, “He’s making things up.”

Marquis Xuanping simply said, “Go for now. We’ll talk about all this once we’re back.”

Without another word, Chang Jing took off running at full speed!

Gongsun Yu barked coldly, “Trying to escape? It won’t be that easy! Capture them!”

The remaining five or six guards surged forward all at once.

Marquis Xuanping positioned himself at the entrance of the fourth passageway, blocking it completely. As the group of elite guards charged forward, brimming with killing intent, he didn’t even so much as lift his eyelids.

These men were no ordinary guards. They were all top-tier experts ranked among the best in the State of Jin, which was precisely why they were qualified to accompany someone like Gongsun Yu.

They didn’t recognize this Great Yan general in the slightest, which meant that this man was likely a nobody, a mere nameless figure with no reputation to speak of.

A pompous pretender, they thought. Someone who only knew how to launch surprise attacks from the shadows, but when it came to true, face-to-face combat, he likely wouldn't be able to hold his own against them at all!

The first guard to charge forward shouted as he unleashed his sword technique, “Take this!”

Marquis Xuanping, without even a flicker of emotion, reached back and grasped the hilt of his saber, pulling it up from the ground with a fluid motion. With a single twist of his wrist, he brought the blade down in one clean, merciless stroke!

That man was still in midair.

But his head was no longer on his shoulders.

Marquis Xuanping did not have a thirst for killing, nor did he revel in bloodshed or brutal methods, but on the battlefield, there was no room for mercy. Killing was both a duty, and in some twisted sense, a form of salvation.

For every extra move he allowed the enemy, he risked giving them the opportunity to take his life in return.

And beyond that, intimidation was crucial.

Sure enough, after that single devastating strike, the remaining guards all froze in place, their bodies stiff with hesitation, their hands faltering for the briefest of moments.

This was the moment to strike!

Marquis Xuanping once again raised his saber and brought it down with ruthless precision, each strike claiming a life, one after another, without the slightest trace of hesitation or mercy. He gave Gongsun Yu’s lackeys not even a moment to counterattack, cutting them down before they had a chance to react.

He knew full well that he would soon have to face Gongsun Yu directly, and at that time, he wouldn’t be able to spare any attention for these minor pests. Rather than letting them chase after his son and Chang Jing, it was better to eliminate them all right now!

“It’s your turn.” He said, sweeping his long saber in a bold arc, pointing arrogantly at Elder Lu.

Gongsun Yu’s gaze turned dangerous as he ordered, “I’ll deal with him. You go after the Eldest Imperial Grandson of Great Yan.”

Elder Lu gave a nod in response.

He reached down and picked up the firelance from the ground.

That weapon’s destructive power was far too great; it must never be allowed to fall into this man’s hands!

At that moment, Gongsun Yu engaged Marquis Xuanping in combat.

Gongsun Yu was a formidable opponent. He possessed extraordinary martial talent, and his skills were no less than those of Xuanyuan Sheng in his prime.

Over the years, he had continued to refine and elevate his martial skills through constant exposure to brutal, high-stakes battles, to the point that within all six states, he could now be considered nearly unmatched.

He was proficient with virtually every kind of weapon, but today, the one he had brought with him was a sword.

Drawing his sword and discarding the scabbard, he launched a fierce assault straight at Marquis Xuanping!

Description:

In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.

When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.

The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.

From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.

***

Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.

After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"

Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"

Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”

Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
