Also, many thanks to everyone who bought me coffee (*≧∀≦*)
The forked tunnel they fought in was slightly more spacious than the main passage, but even so, the area was too cramped to allow full freedom of movement, especially for Marquis Xuanping’s long saber, which was significantly restricted by the space.
In their first exchange of blows, the two were evenly matched.
Seizing the opportunity, Elder Lu darted into the fourth tunnel, heading in the direction Chang Jing had gone.
Marquis Xuanping swung his saber in a sweeping slash, only to be blocked by Gongsun Yu’s sword.
“Your opponent is me.” Gongsun Yu said coldly.
Marquis Xuanping was truly enraged now. He let out a cold, disdainful chuckle and looked directly at Gongsun Yu as he said, "Gongsun Yu, do you actually believe that this Marquis cannot defeat you?"
This time, he spoke in the language of the State of Zhao.
Gongsun Yu was momentarily taken aback.
Marquis Xuanping pointed the tip of his long saber directly at him. "Years ago, a member of your Gongsun Family was already defeated at my hands. And today, all you're doing is adding another loss to the tally!"
That arrogant stare, that wildly overbearing tone...
Gongsun Yu’s pupils trembled slightly. “You’re… the Abyss King?”
Years ago, in the underground martial arena, a terrifying young man had emerged, one who struck fear into the hearts of martial experts across the six states. Among those he defeated was a prodigy from the Gongsun Family, Gongsun Ling.
Gongsun Ling, hailed as another unparalleled prodigy of the Gongsun Family, had been utterly defeated by that eighteen-year-old young man from the State of Zhao. Not once, but in seven consecutive duels, each one ending in decisive loss!
After returning to the Gongsun Family in disgrace, Gongsun Ling completely lost his will to fight, and with that, the Gongsun Family lost a star whose future once shone bright with the promise of military glory.
That fearsome young man had been known by all as the “Abyss King.”
Why he was given such a title was not only a testament to the overwhelming strength he had demonstrated, but also because of another reason; his chosen alias in the underground arena was so infamously arrogant that it offended everyone who heard it: Heaven’s Unrivaled One.
“So it was you… It’s really you…” Gongsun Yu suddenly felt as though fate itself had brought them together. “Good. I’ve long wanted to meet the one who defeated Gongsun Ling, so that I could personally kill him, and declare to the world that it was not the Gongsun Family that lacked strength, but Gongsun Ling himself who was weak!”
Marquis Xuanping let out a mocking laugh. “Heh.”
Gongsun Yu paid no mind to the taunt. He continued, “But you’re from the State of Zhao, aren’t you? Why did you become a general of the State of Yan?”
Marquis Xuanping hoisted his long saber onto his shoulder and said, “What the hell’s it got to do with you? Are we fighting or not? If not, then get out of my way!”
Gongsun Yu’s gaze sharpened, and he unleashed another lethal strike aimed directly at Marquis Xuanping.
In this narrow underground tunnel, there was no room for elaborate techniques; it all came down to speed and inner strength!
Gongsun Yu moved so fast that he became nothing but a fleeting afterimage, but under Marquis Xuanping’s sharpened five senses, his movements seemed to slow down and magnify, clear and unmistakable.
Marquis Xuanping said, “Gongsun Yu, no one can stop this Marquis… from seeing his son.”
He stepped back, retreating into the fourth passage, and at that very moment, his long saber clashed with Gongsun Yu’s sword. However, the long handle of the saber was sliced clean through!
Gongsun Yu gave a cold snort. “So much for your——”
But before he could finish the sentence, Marquis Xuanping grabbed the now short hilt of the broken saber, and reversing his grip, he slashed it horizontally straight at Gongsun Yu!
Gongsun Yu’s expression changed drastically. “You——”
Marquis Xuanping had done it on purpose. He had always found the saber’s long hilt unwieldy. Now that it had been shortened, it actually suited him better.
The passage was narrow, leaving Gongsun Yu with no room to evade; he had no choice but to swing his sword in defense!
Blades clashed, and a shower of sparks burst out upon impact!
Gongsun Yu felt the overwhelming force transmitted through the edge of the blade.
It was the fury of a father.
“You're not even qualified to hurt this Marquis’s son, Gongsun Yu!”
Marquis Xuanping suddenly drew a hidden secondary blade and drove it fiercely into Gongsun Yu’s abdomen!
In situations like this, where the fight resembled a rolling battle, true experts never gave their opponents a second chance to strike again; the outcome must be decided in a single instant!
However, Gongsun Yu was wearing armor made of the same material as Gu Jiao’s. It was tough, impenetrable armor that blocked Marquis Xuanping’s saber!
Gongsun Yu sneered mockingly. “Is that all you’ve got? Abyss King!”
He pulled a dagger from his waist and drove it toward Marquis Xuanping!
Clang!
It was the sound of a blade piercing through armor.
Gongsun Yu laughed wildly, but in the very next second, the laughter died on his lips.
He looked down and saw the saber buried deep in his own armor. His eyes widened in disbelief.
This couldn’t be...
His armor was impenetrable to blades and spears——no one should be able to pierce through it!
His gaze whipped toward Marquis Xuanping. His own dagger had stabbed into Marquis Xuanping’s shoulder.
Marquis Xuanping hadn’t used even a hint of internal force to protect himself. Instead, he had poured all of it into that one single strike!
“You——”
This man was insane!
Even crazier than himself!
Marquis Xuanping’s eyes were cold as ice. “I told you, no one can hurt my son!”
Gongsun Yu had taken a direct hit!
“My Lord!”
Just then, Zhu Zhangkuang flew in from the side, forcefully separating the two with a single palm strike, then grabbed the wounded Gongsun Yu and fled swiftly into another tunnel!
Not far behind Marquis Xuanping, a figure in dark robes stepped out from a hidden stone crevice.
It was Chang Jing.
Earlier, Chang Jing and Shangguan Qing hadn’t actually fled far but had hidden inside this stone crevice.
Elder Lu hadn’t seen them at all and had foolishly chased forward in the wrong direction.
“Why didn’t you chase after him?” Chang Jing asked.
Marquis Xuanping replied enigmatically, “He’s not meant to die by my hand. There’s someone else far more suited to kill him.”
Chang Jing cut straight to the point. “You just couldn’t be bothered to kill him, right?”
Marquis Xuanping responded with exaggerated solemnity, “...Do I look like that kind of person?”
Marquis Xuanping: If you keep speaking the truth like this, I’ll confiscate your marbles!
Truthfully, with his son in urgent condition, Marquis Xuanping had no intention of wasting time tangling with Gongsun Yu.
And he wasn’t wrong, as there truly was someone out there who wanted to kill Gongsun Yu more than he did.
Standing before the stone crevice, the always calm and composed Marquis Xuanping, who wouldn’t flinch even if Mount Tai collapsed before him, suddenly tensed up with nerves.
Now, he was about to see his son.

Description:
In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.
When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.
The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.
From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.
***
Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.
After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"
Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"
Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”
Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
