Chapter 717: Chapter 717: Vera is Furious (Part 5)
Fiona Wright and Shirley Ewing froze when they heard this. Vera Xavier’s lip color had indeed been a bit unusual that night, but they hadn’t thought anything of it. They instinctively glanced at Vera, who remained calm and composed.
Laura White pressed on, "And what about your class monitor? He was infatuated with you, wasn’t he? When he came to confess his feelings, did you really think no one heard? Then there’s the student council president, Damian Yale, waiting for you at the dorm entrance first thing this morning. You gave him the cold shoulder, but that’s just part of your act, isn’t it!"
"And now you bring over this so-called ’boyfriend,’ who’s nothing but another cover! Boyfriend? Please. He’s just another admirer you’ve got wrapped around your little finger! At the end of the day, you’re nothing but a shameless, disgusting tramp!"
The warmth in Vera Xavier’s eyes vanished, replaced by a chilling frost. ’Laura had warned her about things before, and her jealousy was always obvious.’ But Vera had always assumed that despite the envy, Laura was fundamentally a kind-hearted girl. That’s why she was so shocked to hear these words now.
SLAP! Vera Xavier struck Laura White across the face. Laura immediately tried to retaliate, but Vera grabbed her wrist, twisted it, and threw her to the ground. Before Laura could react, Vera planted her foot firmly on her chest, pinning her in place.
Laura White’s eyes widened in astonishment. She had always seen Vera Xavier as a gentle, fragile girl. Yes, she had viciously beaten Susan Caldwell in front of a crowd, but her movements had been so fast, the takedown so one-sided, that Laura had always concluded that Susan was just weak, not that Vera was actually strong.
But now, facing Vera herself, she realized Vera was far, far stronger than she had ever imagined!
Vera Xavier loomed over her. "Apologize!"
Her expression was glacial, and her entire being radiated a murderous aura. It felt as if the temperature in the room had plummeted.
It was the first time Shirley Ewing and Fiona Wright had ever seen Vera Xavier this furious. They were frozen in place, unsure of what to do or say.
Laura White roared, "Wasn’t I telling the truth? You hit me first! If anyone should be apologizing, it’s you to me!"
Vera Xavier spoke slowly. "There are some things I don’t care to discuss, and I certainly don’t owe you any explanation. But you will apologize for what you just said."
"And what if I don’t? Are you going to kill me?" Laura White said with a sneer.
Vera Xavier replied calmly, "Don’t be ridiculous. We live in a society with laws. Of course I’m not going to kill you. But I can make you stand in front of the entire school and issue a public apology to me. That, I can do."
"You’re going to get the Chief Instructor to fight your battles for you, aren’t you?" Laura White sneered. "Vera Xavier, and you have the nerve to say you’re not a promiscuous slut!"
Vera Xavier applied a little more pressure with her foot. Laura White instantly felt as if a boulder was crushing her chest. Any more, and her ribs would surely break!
This time, Vera Xavier didn’t bother speaking to her again. Instead, she pulled a large, brick-like mobile phone from her bag and made a call. "Nathaniel, tell Sheldon Caldwell to make a girl named Laura White apologize to me in front of the entire school tomorrow."
When she took out the mobile phone, the other three girls in the room stared in shock. In those days, a phone like that was a small fortune; only someone from an incredibly wealthy family could possibly own one.
"What’s wrong?" Nathaniel Nathan asked, his voice low and serious.
