Chapter 694: Hitting Back (6)

Chapter 694: Chapter 694: Hitting Back (6)

Autumn Rhodes bit her lip, staring at Vera Xavier. Ultimately, afraid she’d get beaten up, she said nothing.

Vera Xavier didn’t care what she was thinking at that moment and continued, "Her greatest skill is sowing discord. She loves to hide behind the scenes and manipulate things. That way, she reaps all the benefits without taking any risks and always stays out of trouble. Just like what happened this time, Autumn Rhodes became nothing more than a blade in her hand."

"Susan Caldwell and I are essentially mortal enemies, but I have no deep-seated hatred for Autumn Rhodes. She’s only targeting me because of Mr. Rhodes, but I’m already with someone. I have absolutely no interest in him at all."

"Why should I believe you?" Autumn Rhodes said coldly. In her opinion, Damian Yale was exceptionally outstanding; there were very few girls who wouldn’t like him.

Vera Xavier replied coolly, "You’re just someone I’ve already defeated. I have absolutely no reason to lie to you. It’s up to you whether you believe me or not."

With that, she stood up and said to the girls behind her, "Let’s go."

Autumn Rhodes glanced at the pitch-black surroundings, then struggled to her feet. "Wait," she called out. "I’m going with you!"

Vera Xavier was inwardly amused. ’Autumn Rhodes may be willful, but when it comes to scheming, she’s a whole level below Susan Caldwell.’

Of course, they didn’t wait for Autumn Rhodes, nor did anyone help her. Gritting her teeth against the pain, Autumn followed them.

They had only walked a hundred paces or so when they ran into a campus security guard on patrol. The guard frowned and asked, "What are you all doing here?"

The other girls tensed up immediately, afraid that Autumn Rhodes would report them to the guard. If she did, things would get ugly right then and there.

Autumn Rhodes, however, was conflicted. She wasn’t the type to suffer a loss in silence, but after hearing what Vera Xavier had said, she couldn’t help but reconsider. For some reason, she believed that Susan Caldwell was capable of everything Vera had described.

By now, Autumn Rhodes had no idea what to make of Vera Xavier’s identity or connections, and there were some risks she no longer dared to take.

"Admiring the moon," Vera Xavier said with a smile, breaking the silence. "The moon is so beautiful tonight. The way it reflects on the lake, the water shimmering like scattered gold... Paired with this gentle breeze, it’s truly one of life’s most beautiful sights."

The corner of the guard’s mouth twitched. Veridia University was number one in the country for liberal arts, so the school had plenty of the artistic, sentimental type. From the looks of it, this group of girls really was just out admiring the moon.

The guard didn’t ask anything else. After they were a good distance away, he looked up at the sky. He mulled it over for a moment before muttering, "Huh. It’s a big ol’ pancake. Kinda makes you want to take a bite."

When Vera Xavier, Autumn Rhodes, and the others finally reached the main campus road, bathed in the dim yellow glow of the streetlights, Autumn shot Vera a venomous glare. "Vera Xavier, I’ll remember this! This isn’t over between us!"

With that, she hobbled away. A slight smirk touched Vera Xavier’s lips, her eyes filled with scorn.

’If Autumn Rhodes really wanted to settle this score, she would have asked the guard for help. But she didn’t say a word, which proves she doesn’t dare tell anyone what happened. She can’t afford the humiliation.’

’As for any trouble Autumn Rhodes might try to cause in the future, she wasn’t the least bit worried. Let them try whatever they wanted. She, Vera Xavier, had never been afraid of anyone!’
