Chapter 638: Chapter 638: Going to See Mom (6)

Vera Xavier let out a rather unsympathetic laugh at Sheldon Caldwell’s expression. Forgetting his dignity entirely, he rolled his eyes at her. He probably hadn’t even realized that he was always exceptionally relaxed around Vera, speaking to her as if she were family.

The place where they were supposed to meet Winter Sullivan wasn’t too far. Bickering back and forth, they arrived in no time.

After Sheldon Caldwell parked, he and Vera Xavier got out of the car and walked into the teahouse together.

Winter Sullivan was always punctual, so she was already there. She was wearing a deep purple, Chinese-style outfit with floral Suzhou embroidery. The embroidery was exquisite, and the purple gave her a noble air, yet it also added a touch of gentleness that she didn’t usually have.

She was the elder, so she didn’t rise when Vera Xavier approached, merely offering a faint smile.

Sheldon Caldwell smiled at Winter Sullivan. "Mom, I’ve brought her to you. When do I get my reward?"

Winter Sullivan shot him a cool glance, pulled a lollipop from her purse, and handed it to him. His face fell the moment he saw it. "Wait, Mom, you said you’d give me a ’little something sweet’ for my trouble. What’s this lollipop supposed to be?"

Winter Sullivan replied with a perfectly straight face, "Aren’t lollipops sweet?"

Sheldon Caldwell was speechless. ’She’s right, a lollipop is sweet!’

He grumbled, "Mom, we have company. Don’t embarrass me!"

Vera Xavier coughed lightly. "I didn’t see anything. I didn’t hear anything!"

Sheldon Caldwell: "..."

’Vera had always known that Winter Sullivan had a stern personality, one that was focused on issues rather than people. She was typically as cold as ice. Vera never imagined that this was how she interacted with Sheldon Caldwell in private.’

’Initially, she hadn’t been keen on the idea of returning to the Caldwell family. There were too many unknown factors, and Susan Caldwell was a master of slander with brilliant acting skills. Based on her observations, Vera suspected that Winter Sullivan and Julian Caldwell were still clueless about the things Susan had been up to.’

’She also knew that Susan Caldwell had always been thoroughly spoiled by the Caldwell family, the true apple of their eye. So, even if she exposed Susan’s true nature, Vera feared the family wouldn’t believe her.’

’But now, seeing the way Winter Sullivan and Sheldon Caldwell interacted, she felt that Winter was probably not quite like the rumors made her out to be. She actually had a gentle side.’

’She was, in fact, quite envious of the easy affection that flowed between Winter Sullivan and Sheldon Caldwell.’

’After all, they were her closest family in this world.’

Winter Sullivan looked at Vera Xavier with a small, apologetic smile. "I’m sorry for getting you caught up in this."

Vera Xavier didn’t understand what she meant at first, but Sheldon Caldwell quickly explained, "My mom heard I was going to run the military training for Veridia University students, so she specifically told me to be strict with my sister. Of course, I couldn’t just single her out, so I increased the difficulty for everyone."

Vera Xavier’s lips twitched. ’Are you sure you just "increased the difficulty?"’ she thought. ’And not to satisfy your personal, twisted hobby of tormenting students?’

Seeing her expression, Sheldon Caldwell immediately shot her a warning look. She could know the truth, but she absolutely could not spill the beans to his mother, or he’d be the one getting punished.

It might be hard to believe, but even though he was a respectable vice president, he was still afraid of his own mother.
