Vera Xavier said with a smile, "Won’t that be too much trouble for you? It’s not exactly a short trip from your company to the university."
"Have you ever met a man who complains that seeing his own wife is too much work?" Nathaniel Nathan’s voice turned cold.
Vera could already hear the displeasure in his voice. ’Having such a petty man for a husband, one I have to coax every single day, is seriously exhausting!’
So, her eyes darted around. Seeing no one nearby and that the overhead searchlights had long since been turned off, she was surrounded by darkness.
She grew a little bolder, reaching out and throwing her arms around him. "Aww, Nathaniel Nathan, we haven’t seen each other in two days! I missed you so much!"
Rule number one for soothing him: He is the most outstanding man alive!
Rule number two for soothing him: Tell him you missed him every time you meet!
Nathaniel Nathan glanced at the girl in his arms, a faint helplessness in his eyes. Even though he knew this girl probably hadn’t thought of him at all in the past two days, the moment she pressed her soft body against his, all his dissatisfaction and unhappiness vanished into thin air.
Even knowing she was likely just coaxing him, he still felt inexplicably happy.
He gently wrapped his arm around her and said, "Why don’t we go home?"
Vera’s body instantly stiffened. His suggestion of "going home" was loaded with implications. She cleared her throat and said, "I’m still in the middle of military training. You know what a sadist Sheldon Caldwell is. If I sneak out with you tonight, he’ll torture me to death tomorrow!"
Nathaniel Nathan reached out, gently lifted her chin, and looked at her for a moment before letting out a soft huff through his nose.
Vera felt he was becoming increasingly difficult to handle lately. ’This is so frustrating!’
While she was still wondering how to soothe him, he was already kissing her.
He would never tell her that he had rushed over so late at night just for her kiss. And he certainly would never tell her how wonderful, how sweet she tasted, or how he longed for her day and night.
Vera was dazed. ’We’re on the edge of the school’s sports field, not some secluded grove! There are still students running laps on the other side!’
She had thought sneaking a hug was already incredibly bold, but him kissing her like this felt like it was going too far! ’If the school administration finds out, will they call me out and reprimand me?’
’Even if the administration doesn’t see, it’ll still be a huge pain if the other students in training spot us, okay?’
Hiding in the bushes not far away, Sheldon Caldwell had already turned around. ’I must be a real masochist,’ he thought. He had secretly snuck back after leaving just to eavesdrop on their conversation, only to witness such a cringeworthy scene!
’They’re clearly just bullying a single guy like me, aren’t they?’
’And another thing, Vera Xavier has no self-respect, hugging Nathaniel Nathan like that! And Nathaniel is just shameless! The girl just gives you a hug, and you have to go and kiss her? What for?’
At this, Sheldon Caldwell put himself in Nathaniel’s shoes. ’If a girl I liked reached out and hugged me one day, would I kiss her?’
’Of course I would! You’d have to be an animal *not* to kiss her in that situation!’
Sheldon’s spirits soared at the thought, but then he instantly deflated like a popped balloon. He realized that for his little scenario to happen, first, he would need someone he actually liked, and second, that girl would have to hug him first...
What a painful realization!
