Sheldon Caldwell shouted, "While your performance today might have been a smidge better than the other students’, just look at the state you’re in! Aren’t you pathetic? You’ve completely embarrassed me!"
"The sight of you is an absolute eyesore. You have one minute to get yourselves squared away."
Perhaps because they weren’t being punished, all the students were in high spirits. They even chuckled at each other’s sorry states as they quickly straightened themselves out, buttoning their shirts, fastening their belts, and tying their shoelaces.
Once they were done, Sheldon Caldwell said slowly, "All right. Warm up by running around this academic building for ten minutes."
A ten-minute warm-up normally wouldn’t be enough, but since these students had already been training for a full day, it would suffice.
After the ten-minute warm-up, Sheldon Caldwell looked at them and said, "Now, let’s see what you’re made of."
When Vera Xavier heard this, she almost choked. ’Even if I’ve never had military training before, I know they don’t teach students hand-to-hand combat. At most, they’d teach a military boxing routine. But from the sound of it, this guy is actually planning to teach us how to fight!’
Just as Vera Xavier was grumbling to herself, Sheldon Caldwell pointed at her. "You, miss. You look defiant. I bet you’re a good fighter. You’re up first!"
Vera Xavier: "..."
’Seriously, what is he even trying to do?!’
She ground her teeth but could only walk over and accept her fate. The reason was simple: ’During military training, he’s the one in charge!’
A large, soft mat had already been placed in front of Sheldon Caldwell. He stepped onto it and said, "Attack me."
Vera Xavier glanced at him. ’I seriously suspect this guy is just trying to find an excuse to pick on me because Nathaniel Nathan beat him up last time!’
She shook her head. "I wouldn’t dare. I’m afraid you’ll punish me if I hit you!"
"Don’t worry, just come at me. I promise I absolutely will not punish you tonight," Sheldon Caldwell said earnestly. "However, if you *can’t* hit me, I just might."
Vera Xavier took two steps closer to him and asked, "Are you sure?"
"Positive," Sheldon Caldwell said with absolute certainty.
Vera Xavier pressed her lips together, feigning a bit of shyness. "Okay, then... I’m starting."
The words had barely left her mouth when she snapped her leg straight up in a high kick, aiming right for his nose.
’Sheldon Caldwell had assumed that Vera was just a delicate little thing. Even if hanging around a freak like Nathaniel Nathan had made her a bit strange, just how strange could a girl really be?’
’Besides, when people say they’re going to fight, the first thing you expect is a punch. Who would have thought she’d lead with a kick?’
And so, caught completely off guard, the tip of Vera’s shoe grazed his nose. A sharp, stinging pain shot through it, and when he reached up to touch it, his hand came away bloody!
’Damn it, why are girls these days such monsters?!’
Sheldon Caldwell could no longer maintain his dignified front. He couldn’t help but ask, "I thought you said you were going to use your hands?"
"Sir, surely you’ve studied *The Art of War by Sun Tzu*? Have you never heard the phrase ’all’s fair in war’?" Vera Xavier asked with a perfectly calm expression.
Sheldon Caldwell: "..."
’He’d only wanted to scare her a little, he never actually planned on hitting her. Was it really okay for her to do this? Someone please calculate the size of his emotional trauma!’
