Sheldon Caldwell slowly walked over to the group of students brought before him by the dorm supervisors. His icy eyes swept over them before he spoke in a slow, deliberate tone. "Not bad. You’re all quite capable, thinking you could get away with slacking off. You’ve certainly got brains, it’s just a shame you don’t use them for anything worthwhile."
"On the battlefield, behavior like this would make you a deserter. I’m sure you’re thinking this is just military training, not a real battle. And you wouldn’t be wrong. Your only mistake was running into me."
"I know you’ve all been calling me ’The Devil Instructor’ behind my back. Frankly, I’m not a fan of the nickname. Have you ever seen a devil this handsome? You really didn’t put much thought into it, did you? I’m no devil. At most, I’m the King of Hell!"
"And since I’m the King of Hell, I have to give you a taste of hell’s methods, don’t I? Come on now. Everyone, do ten laps of frog hops around the track. That should do it. You’ve surely never seen such an adorable King of Hell before. I’ll graciously accept your thanks and praise."
Hearing this, the corner of Vera Xavier’s mouth twitched again. ’This guy is really unbelievable! How could someone as upright and aloof as Winter Sullivan have a son like Sheldon Caldwell, who has such a big mouth? It’s just too much.’
Ten laps of frog hops around the track... By the time they finished, their legs would be completely shot. They definitely wouldn’t even be able to get out of bed tomorrow!
Susan Caldwell’s eyes filled with astonishment. She knew better today than to speak up and plead with Sheldon Caldwell; instead, she just stared at him with wide, pitiful eyes.
He saw her look but pretended he hadn’t. In truth, he was furious.
’Is it because Susan is so two-faced? Or am I just mad at myself for not realizing this about her sooner?’
Because he was angry, Sheldon Caldwell had given them the most severe punishment possible.
Susan Caldwell felt like crying. ’Other guys treat their little sisters like treasure, protecting them and taking care of them. Why is it like this with my brother?’
She would probably never understand Sheldon Caldwell’s mindset. When it came to core principles, Sheldon was actually very much like Winter Sullivan. From his perspective, Susan’s devious, slacker attitude was simply intolerable.
Another instructor had already come over to lead the group of several dozen students to the track to begin their frog hops.
Only then did Sheldon Caldwell turn to face the students who had assembled within the two-minute time limit. He wasn’t surprised by their disheveled appearances. In fact, it was a common sight during the initial training of new recruits.
But when his eyes landed on Vera Xavier, standing there perfectly composed in her neat uniform, a complicated feeling welled up inside him. ’They’re both girls, so why is Vera so disciplined and outstanding, while my own sister is such a mess?’
’Could I trade Vera for Susan? I wish I had a sister like her.’
Vera Xavier noticed the complicated look in his eyes as he stared at her. While she couldn’t quite grasp what he was thinking, that didn’t stop her from rolling her eyes at him. ’I really wish Nathaniel would show up and punch him!’
Sheldon Caldwell curled his lip. ’Vera Xavier may be outstanding, but she really has a bad temper. If she were my sister, I’d have to teach her a thing or two. Girls should be a little gentler if they want to be liked!’
