The drill instructors behind Sheldon Caldwell were shaking with suppressed laughter. He shot them a vicious glare, and they quickly handed him a tissue to wipe his nosebleed.
Sheldon Caldwell waved at Vera Xavier, indicating she could step down. Then he had the other instructors test the skills of the students.
These students were all top performers in their class, model students who had likely never been in a fight their entire lives. What kind of skills could you expect them to have?
A few had studied things like Tai Chi or Taekwondo, but their levels were low; they had only learned it to stay fit.
The sight was so pathetic he could barely watch. The military academy’s grand competition included a combat segment, and seeing the state of these students, he couldn’t help but feel utterly hopeless.
With about twenty instructors working together, they quickly got a clear picture of the students’ physical fitness and fighting abilities.
Sheldon Caldwell’s nose had stopped bleeding by now. He stepped forward and said, "Did you all skip breakfast or something? Every last one of you is like a chick fresh out of its eggshell! With your level of fitness, what’s the point of even being in school? A strong gust of wind would blow you all away!"
Vera Xavier shouted, "Chief Instructor, we’re civilized people. Can you not resort to personal attacks? Besides, we’ve just started our military training. What right do you have to say we’re no good?"
Sheldon Caldwell felt a headache coming on when he heard that. ’Isn’t she usually good at playing innocent?’ he thought. ’So keep pretending! Did I give her permission to speak?’
He swept a cold glance over them. "Because I’m your chief instructor! As for why I’m saying this, there’s a reason—it’s because you’re all so weak! If you’ve got the guts, come up here and challenge me. Whoever can defeat me, I’ll take back what I just said."
Two days of military training had earned Sheldon Caldwell some prestige, but it had also made him the target of a lot of resentment. On top of that, all the students had just seen Vera Xavier’s kick make his nose bleed, so the naive students figured he wasn’t all that tough.
So, a male student who had studied Taekwondo for a few years stepped forward and said, "I’ll give it a try!"
Males have always been a competitive group, whether animal or human, especially when given a chance to show off.
Sheldon Caldwell raised an eyebrow slightly and praised the boy, "You’ve got courage!"
After the boy came up, Sheldon Caldwell took him down with a single leg sweep. The boy got back up, only to be knocked down again.
The boy was beaten into a daze, completely unable to fight back.
Sheldon Caldwell said disdainfully, "It’s not that I’m insulting you. You really are just a bunch of weaklings."
Hearing this, Vera Xavier really wanted to go up there and beat the hell out of him. However, she knew full well that with her limited skills, she could handle someone like Susan Caldwell, but fighting Sheldon Caldwell would be suicide. Her kick earlier had only landed because of the element of surprise.
’This guy is a grown man, a legitimate deputy general manager. Is it really appropriate for him to be picking fights with students during military training? Could it be that he lost to Nathaniel Nathan at the company, so he came here to boost his ego among a bunch of students? If that’s the case, he’s just shameless!’
Provoked by his taunts, a few more boys went up to fight him, but he flattened them all on the soft mats in an instant.
Sheldon Caldwell said smugly, "Anyone else want to challenge me? If no one can defeat me, then you’ll all have to admit you’re really weak! And then you’ll run thirty laps around the field!"
All the students were a bit stunned. ’Damn it, why doesn’t this instructor play by the rules? Didn’t he say he wouldn’t punish us?’
