Chapter 616: First Suspicion (2)
Chapter 616: Chapter 616: First Suspicion (2)
After Fiona Wright finished speaking, she spat three times. "Heart disease is terrifying," she said. "It shortens your life. Hypoglycemia is much better. At least it won’t kill you, and it’s easy to recover from later."
Vera Xavier couldn’t help but laugh at the two of them. It seemed Sheldon Caldwell had really terrified the students today.
News about the boy who fainted today had already spread across campus. He was a freshman, just like them, and everyone was saying that someone that sick wouldn’t have to continue with military training. Quite a few students were already getting ideas.
Unfortunately for them, they were all in excellent health, so fainting for real was out of the question.
She could already predict that as soon as military training began tomorrow, a whole lot of freshmen would be fainting.
As it turned out, her prediction was correct. But she had only foreseen the beginning, not the end.
The next day, someone fainted the moment military training began. Instantly, all the students’ eyes lit up, as if that classmate had just paved a golden road for them. ’If we can’t faint for real, we can just pretend! It’s just an acting contest! We can do that too!’
However, the thought had barely formed in their minds when they saw the instructor pull out a large needle—a full four inches long—and jab it into the "fainted" girl.
The girl cried out, her eyes flying open. Then she started hopping around, screaming in pain.
Watching this scene unfold, the students all gulped nervously.
The instructor brandished the large needle at the students. The weather was bright and sunny, and the needle glittered as it caught the light. At its tip was a single, crimson drop of fresh blood.
The instructor said coolly, "Anyone else want to faint? You’re all welcome to try my needle. It’s the perfect tool for reviving unconscious students."
Every student’s face went pale. If that needle went in, they were afraid it would go right through their butts!
The instructor scanned the crowd. When no one else fainted, he said with satisfaction, "I believe you are all the best. Let’s begin the training. But before we do, if anyone has a heart condition, you can submit a doctor’s note to be excused. As for the student who just fainted—your physical constitution is so poor, you clearly need more exercise. Now, go run thirty laps around the track."
The girl was on the verge of tears when she heard this, but she didn’t dare to disobey. Wiping her eyes, she trudged off toward the track.
After another glance at the large needle in the instructor’s hand, any student who had been thinking of faking their way out of training immediately gave up the idea.
The instructor was feeling a little smug. ’The Commander really is brilliant,’ he thought. ’He knew these students would try to find a way to slack off today, so he had the big needle ready. Look how it scared this bunch of wimps!’
He glanced from the embroidery needle in his palm to the large one he was holding. While it was the smaller needle he had actually used, the larger one was far more intimidating and had a much greater deterrent effect.
The rest of the day’s military training went quite smoothly. No one dared to fake fainting again.
The difficulty and intensity of the training were ramped up significantly that day, and all the students had to grit their teeth and endure.
After a full day of training yesterday, every one of the students was sore. After another session today, they were all miserable.
Yesterday, Vera Xavier had led Shirley Ewing and Fiona Wright through some stretching and muscle relaxation exercises. So while their muscles were also a little sore today, compared to the other students, their aches were practically negligible.
