Vera Xavier coaxed him, "Men who are too petty have trouble finding a wife, so you should try to be more magnanimous. If you behave yourself, I might even set you up with someone another day."
"Oh, thanks a lot!" Sheldon Caldwell shamelessly rolled his eyes at her. "A guy as amazing as me can find any girl I want. You think I need you to set me up? What if you introduce me to a girl with a dark heart like yours? I’d die of frustration!"
Vera Xavier found that bantering with him was actually quite fun. "That’s probably not going to happen. After all, I’m the only girl in the world as exceptional as I am."
"You’re just as self-righteous as Nathaniel Nathan," Sheldon Caldwell assessed, before finally getting to the point. "I heard about what happened in the cafeteria today and told my mom. She wants to meet you this Sunday to thank you properly."
"Thank me?" Vera Xavier let out a soft laugh. "This isn’t some ploy to stick up for Susan Caldwell and teach me a harsh lesson, is it?"
"You’re really overthinking this," Sheldon Caldwell said calmly. "My mom has always been very strict with me and Susan. If we do something wrong, she makes sure to correct it. Susan might look well-behaved, but sometimes her heart isn’t in the right place. My mom has always been worried about this, but she’s usually too busy to keep a close eye on Susan. This time, she heard that Susan made a mistake and you corrected her, so she wants to thank you."
Vera Xavier was a bit speechless at this explanation. ’Seriously, that reason is something else!’
She had only ever seen parents argue and fight for their children’s sake. She’d never seen parents who, after their own child had a conflict with another, wanted to thank the other child instead.

"Of course, it’s real," Sheldon Caldwell said seriously. "My mom always judges the action, not the person. When we were kids and got into fights, if we were the ones in the wrong, my mom would personally take us to the other family’s house to apologize. But by the same token, if the other kid was wrong, she’d demand that they apologize to us."
"And what if they refused to apologize?" Vera Xavier asked curiously.

"Why?" Vera Xavier asked.
"Because everyone knows my mom is a weapons expert. She’s as connected as one can be with the people at the weapons factories. If any company wants advanced weaponry, they have to go through her for approval. Her research institute is filled with all sorts of high-end armaments. So, you know, people with any sense know not to cross her. And those without any sense are afraid that if they piss her off, she’ll just pull a gun out of her purse and shoot them," Sheldon Caldwell said with a laugh.
