Chapter 605: Chapter 605: What’s Wrong With You? (Part 3)
However, Autumn Rhodes quickly shook her head. She was here to discredit Vera, so what did it matter if Vera was right?
Just as she was about to speak, Vera spoke again. "There’s something I forgot to tell you, senior. That guy from my hometown... he tells everyone that any girl who gets even a little close to him is his girlfriend. It’s obvious he really likes you, or he wouldn’t have said so much to you. You two should definitely spend more time together in the future. I, for one, am sick to death of rehearsing lines with him."
Autumn Rhodes’s expression instantly soured. She wanted to say something in her defense, but Damian Yale stepped forward. "I can attest to what happened that day," he said. "Vera and that guy were indeed rehearsing a scene. There were plenty of other people watching, and they can all back this up."
Autumn Rhodes was already crushed, and hearing Damian Yale’s words made her heart sink even further. She couldn’t help but retort, "Senior, you only heard Vera’s side of the story that day. How do you know she’s telling the truth?"
Damian Yale looked at her and said, "And you only heard that guy’s side of the story. How can you be so sure *he’s* telling the truth?"
"I..." Autumn Rhodes was left speechless by his retort. She gave Damian Yale a look of bitter resentment, but he wasn’t looking at her at all. His eyes, which shone like stars, were fixed on Vera.
Seeing the way Damian looked at Vera, Autumn Rhodes was furious. She had been chasing after Damian for the past year, but he had always been cold and distant. He had never once looked at *her* like that!
She didn’t want to ruin the image he had of her, and she certainly couldn’t start a fight with him now. So, she bit her lip, her eyes turning red, and ran off.
Vera was a little surprised to see Damian Yale step up to defend her. ’I could have handled this myself,’ she thought, ’and I could have dragged Autumn Rhodes deeper into this mess. It’s a bit of a shame, things turning out this way.’
She hated being indebted to anyone, but now it seemed she owed him a favor.
She smiled politely at Damian Yale and said, "Thank you, senior, for speaking out for what’s right."
Damian Yale looked at her and said, "Our school motto is ’Seek the Truth.’ We are supposed to find the truth in all matters. Since I witnessed what happened, I couldn’t just ignore it as the student council president. So, there’s no need to thank me."
Vera raised an eyebrow slightly. She couldn’t be bothered to figure out his mood or his attitude. In any case, she had made it crystal clear from the moment they first met: she wasn’t interested in him.
And right now, she had other business to attend to and was in no mood to deal with him.
She turned her head to face Susan Caldwell. "You just said I was immoral, which is why you suspected me of doing something inappropriate to the guy who fainted. In that case, please, provide an example. Prove what immoral things I’ve supposedly done that would lead you to such a conclusion."
Her expression was as cold as ice. Susan Caldwell secretly gritted her teeth, preparing to concoct a few lies, when she heard Vera say in a slow, deliberate voice, "Just a friendly reminder: you’d better have witnesses who can confirm whatever story you tell. Otherwise, I will sue you for slander!"
Susan Caldwell’s face went from red to white, then to a sickly green—a veritable kaleidoscope of colors.
Vera looked at Susan Caldwell and said, "What’s the matter? Can’t think of anything? Susan Caldwell, just admit it. You’re doing this because I’m better than you and you’re jealous. That’s why you’re trying so hard to ruin my reputation."
