Chapter 600: Chapter 600: Vera’s Rage (4)
With that, everyone present began to look at Vera Xavier with hostility.
Someone shouted, "Get up! Let go of that boy!"
"We don’t tolerate shameless girls like you in our school! Get out!"
"At first, I really thought she was saving him. I can’t believe this was her real goal!"
Fiona Wright looked at the furious students surrounding them. She knew better than anyone that Vera was saving his life. She couldn’t help but stand up and say, "Don’t spout nonsense! This boy is having a heart attack, and Vera is performing first aid!"
"First aid? I’ve never seen first aid like this!" Susan Caldwell shouted. "Shouldn’t you use a Rapid Heart Saving Pill for a heart attack? The boy didn’t drown, why would he need mouth-to-mouth resuscitation? I think she’s just shameless, taking advantage of him in public! She has ulterior motives!"
Her words immediately resonated with the other students.
Indeed, from what they knew about first aid for heart attacks, it always involved medications like the Rapid Heart Saving Pill. No one had ever heard of a heart attack requiring mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.
Susan Caldwell saw everyone’s reaction and was incredibly smug, a cold sneer touching her lips. ’Even though she knew Vera was probably saving someone and the boy might really be having a heart attack, she didn’t care if her actions would get him killed, as long as she could slander Vera.’
’After all, in her mind, a human life had never been worth much.’
Fiona Wright watched the increasingly agitated crowd close in, her heart beginning to race. She’d never seen anything like this before. She couldn’t help but glance at Vera Xavier, who was still performing first aid on the boy.
A fine sheen of sweat covered Vera’s forehead, but her expression was calm and steady.
Although Fiona Wright had only met Vera yesterday, she felt an inexplicable trust in her.
She stood protectively in front of Vera and said, "Don’t listen to that girl’s nonsense! Vera is really trying to save him! If you interfere with her rescue, you’ll be murderers!"
"I think Vera Xavier’s the real murderer!" Susan Caldwell shouted. "You’re only saying that because you’re on her side! If Vera hadn’t knocked him out in the first place, why would he have collapsed?"
"He had a sudden heart attack!" Fiona Wright retorted loudly. "Vera didn’t knock him out!"
Susan Caldwell shoved Fiona Wright. "You’re lying! It’s obvious you two knocked him out! You’ve completely lost your minds!"
The shove sent Fiona Wright stumbling back a step, right into Vera.
Vera shot out a hand to steady her. Then, in a brief pause between chest compressions, she snapped out a roundhouse kick that connected squarely with Susan Caldwell’s chest. Vera was furious and held nothing back, sending Susan sprawling to the ground.
Susan scrambled to her feet, ready to lash out. Vera merely tilted her head to look at her, her eyes filled with an icy coldness as she said frigidly, "Get lost."
Susan’s breath caught in her throat when she met Vera’s eyes. Vera’s gaze was terrifying. Just that one look made Susan feel as if she’d been plunged into an icy abyss, and she froze for a moment.
But Vera had already dismissed her. The first aid couldn’t stop; she had to focus on saving the boy’s life.
