The CEO's Wife Is a Medical Master

Chapter 598: Vera’s Wrath (2)

Chapter 598: Chapter 598: Vera’s Wrath (2)

The routine wasn’t complicated. It only took about ten minutes from start to finish.

After they were done, Shirley Ewing and Fiona Wright didn’t feel any less tired, but their bodies felt a bit more nimble.

They arrived late, so there wasn’t much food left in the cafeteria. Only a handful of boys were scattered in the line ahead of them.

While Vera Xavier, Shirley Ewing, and Fiona Wright were discussing what to eat that evening, a boy in line in front of them suddenly collapsed to the ground.

Vera Xavier and her friends jumped in fright. She focused her eyes on him; the boy’s face was ashen, and he lay motionless on the ground.

She frowned slightly and used her X-ray vision to take a look. There was no bleeding in the boy’s brain, ruling out a cerebral hemorrhage. Looking further down, his other organs were also healthy, with no issues.

Just as she was about to dismiss it as a simple fainting spell, she discovered something shocking: the heart in the boy’s chest wasn’t beating at all. In other words, he was in sudden cardiac arrest!

Vera Xavier was momentarily stunned. Sudden cardiac arrest was the most terrifying type of heart condition. If treated properly within four minutes, there was a fifty percent chance of resuscitation. After four minutes, the probability of recovery decreased by seven to ten percent every minute. After ten minutes, the chance of resuscitation was practically zero.

Furthermore, someone in cardiac arrest could suffer permanent brain damage from prolonged oxygen deprivation. The longer treatment was delayed, the greater the damage to the brain.

And a patient in cardiac arrest was in a much more serious situation than Master Nathan had been during his heart attack. It couldn’t be solved with a bottle of nitroglycerin or a Rapid Heart Saving Pill; it required proper emergency medical procedures.

These emergency procedures included mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

This was the most critical patient Vera Xavier had ever encountered, in this life or her last. Although she had emergency rescue knowledge, she had never actually saved someone like this before.

There weren’t many people in the cafeteria, and they were all students. This wasn’t a medical school, so most of them probably knew even less than she did and had no first-aid skills.

If she went to the infirmary to get the school doctor now, it would be too late by the time they got back.

Vera Xavier bit her lip and quickly made a decision. ’At a time like this, I can’t worry about the patient being a boy, or whether Nathaniel would mind or get jealous. In the face of life and death, nothing else matters.’

She immediately said to a stunned Shirley Ewing beside her, "Shirley, hurry and call 911!"

After speaking, she immediately repositioned the boy, laying him flat on the ground. Then, she made a fist and struck his chest twice over the heart. When she saw Shirley Ewing still standing there in a daze, she shouted, "Go, now!"

Shirley Ewing finally snapped out of it and rushed toward the pay phone downstairs.

Fiona Wright couldn’t help but ask, "Vera, what’s wrong with him?"

"Heart attack!" Vera Xavier answered with those two words and said no more, immediately beginning mouth-to-mouth resuscitation on the boy.

Many of the students still eating saw the boy collapse. Vera Xavier’s loud shout to Shirley, in particular, drew their attention, and a crowd had already started to gather.

When the crowd saw her giving the boy mouth-to-mouth, they were all shocked. They stared at Vera Xavier, completely dumbfounded.
