Sheldon Caldwell raised an eyebrow. "Besides, what’s wrong with being from the countryside? Who’s to say a girl from a rural area can’t be more outstanding than someone from the city?"
Rowena Kirby was left speechless by his retort, and her own words were indeed flawed to begin with.
Rowena Kirby was fuming inside, but she still forced a smile at Sheldon Caldwell. "Yes, yes, you’re right. I misspoke. Please, Deputy General Manager Caldwell, don’t tell him. I was just a little curious, that’s all."
Then she added, "I heard that you tore Deputy General Manager Nathan’s clothes today, and that he has scratch marks on his back. Is that true?"
"News sure travels fast!" Sheldon Caldwell sighed. "It’s true. He has scratch marks on his back. I guess I fell right into his trap today."
’By now, he’d pretty much figured it out. Under normal circumstances, how could Nathaniel Nathan’s clothes have been so easy to tear? Nine times out of ten, Nathaniel must have let him do it on purpose.’
’So Nathaniel had deliberately planned for the entire company to find out he had a girlfriend today!’
’Damn it! That bastard. How could he be so devious!’
The more Sheldon thought about it, the more frustrated he became. ’Not only did I get beaten up today, but I was also subjected to a public display of affection and, to top it all off, forced to act as their publicist!’
Rowena Kirby couldn’t resist asking about the one thing she really cared about. "So, Deputy General Manager Nathan’s girlfriend is in Veridia?"
"Yep." Sheldon decided if he had to suffer, he was going to drag someone down with him. "His girlfriend got into Veridia University as the top scholar from her province with a perfect score on all her exams."
As he spoke, he deliberately emphasized the three words "a perfect score."
Becoming the top scholar in the province was already extremely difficult. Add a perfect score to the mix, and it made Vera Xavier’s brilliance seem completely unstoppable.

When Sheldon Caldwell saw the twisted expression on Rowena Kirby’s face, he sighed inwardly. ’Jealousy really does make people ugly,’ he thought. He shook his head slightly. Just then, one of his employees came over and said, "Deputy General Manager Caldwell, the Chairman would like to see you."
Hearing that the Chairman wanted to see him at a time like this, Sheldon Caldwell felt a shiver of dread. ’It couldn’t be about the fight I had with Nathaniel today, could it?’
As it turned out, he was overthinking things. Seth Maverick had summoned him only to discuss the military training. "The branch company assigned to Veridia University’s military training was pulled for an urgent matter. We need to send a new batch of employees to replace them. Arrange for a company to be transferred over to handle the training for Veridia University’s freshmen."
Every year, universities borrowed personnel from their company to conduct military training for students. It was an established custom.
