Nathaniel Nathan’s employees were all snickering. "We’ve seen fights before, of course, but we’ve never seen someone get beaten up this badly."
"Deputy General Manager Caldwell, your fighting skills have really slipped! Want to come train in our camp for a bit?"
"With Deputy General Manager Nathan here, he’ll have you whipped into shape in no time."
Sheldon Caldwell silently cursed. ’Nathaniel Nathan is such a cold and aloof person, so how did all the employees under him turn out to be such hooligans?’
’But every single one of these hooligans is also terrifyingly strong!’
’Just what kind of monster is Nathaniel Nathan?’
He suddenly felt like a complete idiot. ’Fighting a monster like that? Wasn’t that just asking for a beating?’
He turned and shook a fist at the employees. They just laughed cheerfully and dispersed.
Sheldon Caldwell’s employees, on the other hand, walked over looking dejected. Someone tried to help him up.
He shot them a glare and cursed, "Back off! I haven’t broken any bones, so what the hell are you trying to help me for? Get back to training, all of you! Add another ten kilometers!"
A chorus of groans erupted from the employees, but no one dared to disobey his command. They silently went off to run their laps.
Sheldon Caldwell wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth and cursed again. "Nathaniel Nathan, that bastard, he really doesn’t hold back! Even if my sister did mess with your woman, you should just go after her! What’s the point of beating me up?!"
After his outburst, he felt dejected again. ’A man’s pride would demand he get payback for this, but he knew with bitter certainty that he would never in his life get the chance to even the score.’
’But I can’t just let this go! I have to train harder! I have to put in the work!’
Sheldon Caldwell limped back to the dormitory and ran into Rowena Kirby just outside.
’Although Rowena Kirby was known as a great beauty, he didn’t have a very high opinion of her. He thought of her as nothing more than a showy peacock. She couldn’t hold a candle to Vera Xavier; in fact, she couldn’t even compare to his own sister.’
So he didn’t bother to acknowledge her. But Rowena Kirby took the initiative to approach him with a greeting. "Hello, Deputy General Manager Caldwell."
Sheldon Caldwell glanced at her briefly and gave a slight nod.
Rowena Kirby had only just been released from confinement. The men’s dormitory was now guarded, so she couldn’t get inside and had to resort to waylaying people out here.
She smiled and said, "Deputy General Manager Caldwell, you just finished training, so you probably haven’t eaten yet. Let me treat you to a meal."
Sheldon Caldwell said flatly, "If you have something to say, just say it. I’m not feeling well today."
His words were a clear rejection, but Rowena Kirby just smiled, pulled him over to a more secluded spot, and said, "You really are a straightforward person, Deputy General Manager Caldwell. In that case, I’ll be direct too. You and Deputy General Manager Nathan are on good terms, right? I wanted to ask—have you met his girlfriend?"
Sheldon Caldwell was instantly amused. He suddenly felt that he was no longer the most miserable person in the company being tormented by Nathaniel Nathan. A faint smile touched his lips as he said, "Nathaniel and I get along okay, I guess. I’ve met his girlfriend. She’s fair-skinned and beautiful with long legs. She’s also smart, classy, has a great personality, excellent taste, and is very capable. She’s a perfect match for him."
Rowena Kirby was utterly dismayed by his answer. ’What kind of response was that?!’
She forced a smile. "I heard his girlfriend is from the countryside. How could she possibly be that amazing?"
Sheldon Caldwell immediately took issue with that. "Now hold on, Miss Kirby. That’s a pretty prejudiced view of people from the countryside. A serious case of classism. If the Special Assistant heard that, you’d be guaranteed a spot in the next political-thought lecture."
