Chapter 560: He Has Set His Mind on Her (Part 2)
Chapter 560: Chapter 560: He Has Set His Mind on Her (Part 2)
Brooke Mitchell spoke slowly, "If it were anything else, I’d let him have his way. But choosing a daughter-in-law is absolutely non-negotiable. You have to understand, once she marries into the family, I’ll be the one living with her every day! If we don’t get along, wouldn’t I be miserable all the time?"
Beckett Nathan could only try to persuade her again. "It won’t necessarily be like that. Look at Old Zhang in the front courtyard. After his son got married, they bought a house and the young couple lives on their own. Besides, honey, aren’t you getting a little ahead of yourself? All of this hinges on him actually having a daughter-in-law, right?"
"Yes, we need a daughter-in-law first! He’s not a kid anymore; it really is time for him to get married," Brooke Mitchell said sullenly. "What worries me now is that he’s always been so strong-willed. He went abroad by himself when he was just fourteen. Don’t think I don’t know how many dangers he’s faced over the years. I don’t want him to take a risk with his marriage, too."
Whenever the topic came up, Beckett Nathan never knew what to say. Other families hoped for their children to be a little more outstanding, but their son was so exceptional it had become a headache.
Nathaniel Nathan had never been particularly close to people, even as a child. As his mother, Brooke Mitchell was truly frustrated by this.
Brooke Mitchell sighed again. "It’s one thing that he’s always so busy. If he would just hurry up and marry an obedient, sensible, family-oriented wife who can give us grandchildren, I’d have a grandchild to look after. Then I wouldn’t be so bored when you two are away on missions or at work."
"Then let’s have a good talk with him when he gets back this time," Beckett Nathan agreed.
Brooke Mitchell shot him a look. "I’m afraid he won’t listen to us about this anymore. It seems like he’s already set his heart on Vera Xavier!"
"Well, that’s great, isn’t it? Have him bring her home for us to meet," Beckett Nathan said, his interest piqued.
Brooke Mitchell grew anxious. "What’s so great about it? I saw that girl today, and she’s a real handful, you know? At the mall, she took a bottle of soda and poured it all over that girl from the Caldwell family, from head to toe!"
"Is that so?" Beckett Nathan was instantly even more interested. "So she has a temper. You’ve said it yourself before—when picking a daughter-in-law, you’re not afraid of someone with a temper; you’re afraid of a pushover who wouldn’t even make a peep. A fiery personality like that is a perfect match for our Nathaniel!"
Brooke Mitchell grew agitated. "That may be true, but for a woman to do something like that is going too far!"
She had said that after seeing their neighbor Old Wang’s daughter-in-law. The woman was always sullen and quiet, but Brooke could tell she was secretly full of schemes. She had complained about it to Beckett, which had led to his earlier conclusion. But in her heart of hearts, she still wanted a good-tempered, manageable girl for a daughter-in-law.
She finished, glaring at Beckett Nathan. "Besides, in this family, you and Nathaniel both have strong tempers. She definitely wouldn’t be able to bully you two, which means she’ll just bully me! I refuse to be one of those mothers-in-law who gets bullied by her daughter-in-law every day!"
Mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law are natural enemies. The reason is simple: they both care about the same man.
For the mother-in-law, the son she raised for so many years has been snatched away by a creature called "a wife." How could she ever be at ease?
For the daughter-in-law, the husband she went through so much trouble to find is being watched day and night by a creature called "a mother-in-law." What kind of situation is that?
Thus, since ancient times, wars have often broken out between them over ownership of this man. And while the daughter-in-law is victorious in most cases, the entire process is exceptionally arduous.
