"She’s lived under my identity for eighteen years. In a way, I’ve already let her have it for eighteen years. Why should I give her any more?" Vera Xavier said in a low voice.
Nathaniel looked at the girl’s somewhat stubborn face. He recalled his earlier confusion about her. At the time, he had a gut feeling that Vera Xavier was hostile toward Susan Caldwell. But back then, Susan was always so arrogant and haughty, so he just assumed Susan must have provoked Vera, which was why she refused to back down.
