So she looked at Vera Xavier and said, "Susan is trying so sincerely to be your friend, yet this is how you treat her. I won’t pass judgment on whatever is going on between you girls, but you must apologize for pouring a drink on her today. Otherwise, I will not let you leave!"
Vera Xavier laughed. "Fine, then I won’t leave. Does this mean you’ll be serving me dinner, ma’am?"
Brooke Mitchell was stunned and couldn’t react for a moment. It was the first time she had ever met a girl like Vera Xavier who was so unpredictable. For a moment, she had no idea what to do with her.
Given Brooke Mitchell’s status, she certainly couldn’t resort to hitting someone in public. And with Vera Xavier refusing to apologize, it wasn’t as if she could physically force Vera’s head down to make her apologize to Susan Caldwell.
Just then, Nathaniel Nathan’s voice rang out, "Mom, what are you doing here?"
He was holding two ice cream bars and looked at Brooke Mitchell, clearly surprised to see her.

Nathaniel Nathan looked at Vera Xavier, then at Brooke Mitchell, and finally let his gaze sweep over the pathetic-looking Susan Caldwell.

This time, it was Brooke Mitchell’s turn to be stunned. She stared at Vera Xavier in disbelief and said, "What did you just say? She is Vera Xavier? The girlfriend you have in Crestfall?"
Nathaniel Nathan said evenly, "That’s right. I know better than anyone what kind of person Vera Xavier is. She’s very good-tempered and would never do something like pour a drink on someone in the street. If she ever did do something like that, it would only be because she’d been pushed to her absolute limit and was left with no other choice."
