Chapter 540: Chapter 540: The Scumbag’s Downfall (6)
Vera Xavier felt like she had stepped into a living history lesson. It was vivid, full of real artifacts, and far more exciting than a dull history class. She wasn’t just learning about history, but also about painting, fashion, and a variety of other subjects. ’Visiting The Imperial Palace today was an incredible deal!’ she thought.
At the same time, she felt an immense pressure. It seemed that for a top student like her who aced every subject, her future rivals would be formidable. ’To maintain my grades, I’m going to have to study even harder,’ she realized.
Fortunately, her memory was exceptionally good. She remembered everything after the other students explained it just once.
When people asked her about the origins of certain items, she deftly changed the subject. In her past life, she had spent most of her time just trying to make a living, busy with her pharmaceutical work. Where would she have found the time and energy to learn about these things? "Learning about history is an excellent habit," she’d say, "but you can’t just talk about an item in isolation. You have to place it within its historical context."
She would then extract historical details from the information the other students had just shared, using that context to analyze the object, which gave the discussion a whole new dimension.
Not only did this tactic allow her to bluff her way through, but it also earned her a reputation for being remarkably knowledgeable.
’I’m such a fraud,’ Vera was secretly ashamed. While she aced her exams, she knew the scope of what they covered was actually quite limited.
Compared to these students who had been studying diligently since childhood, she had read far fewer books. The reason was simple: the Xavier Family had been too poor to afford them.
She could already see herself needing to spend a lot of time holed up in the library in the future.
After returning from The Imperial Palace, everyone quickly went their separate ways. Since classes hadn’t officially started yet, most students were either staying with relatives or with their parents in hotels.
It was already dark by the time Vera Xavier returned to the villa. She opened the door, stretching as she walked inside. Suddenly, she sensed a pair of eyes watching her. She immediately grabbed a nearby broom and hurled it toward the spot where her intuition told her someone was.
"Vera Xavier, are you trying to murder your dear husband?" Nathaniel Nathan’s voice rang out from the darkness.
The broom, of course, missed him. Vera turned on the light and saw him standing by the dining area, holding it. The light was warm, yet he himself seemed cool and aloof. Still, with his handsome looks, he was a pleasing sight even while holding a broom.
Vera immediately tossed her backpack aside and joyfully leaped into his arms. "Ahh, Nathaniel Nathan, you’re back! I missed you so much!"
Nathaniel hadn’t expected such a reaction and froze for a second. The next moment, she had already thrown herself into his arms.
Nathaniel had been planning to give her a piece of his mind, but now all those thoughts vanished completely. He wrapped his arms around her instinctively.
The girl in his arms was warm, soft, and smelled sweet. She felt so delicate and lovely that his heart melted completely.
Vera had hugged him several times before, but this time was different. This time, she had charged into his arms.
He was the type who looked lean in his clothes but was well-built underneath. His chest was incredibly solid; leaning against him like this felt unbelievably safe.
Nathaniel reached out and stroked Vera’s head. "Vera, you really are..."
’...something else.’ He had no idea what to do with her. She had him completely wrapped around her little finger. He could never stay mad at her, could never act cool in her presence.
