Chapter 539: Chapter 539: The Scumbag’s End (5)
Autumn Rhodes had expected to see Vera Xavier make a fool of herself this time, but she never thought it would end like this.
Her brow furrowed. As she carefully replayed what had just happened, she felt that something wasn’t right.
She looked at Vera Xavier and asked, "Were you two really just acting?"
"What else would it be, Senior?" Vera Xavier asked with a smile. "That guy from my hometown isn’t an idiot. If we weren’t acting, why would he just stand there and let me hit him?"
The truth was, after Vera had hit Wesley Kane in front of everyone, he had desperately wanted to retaliate. The first time he tried, however, he was stunned by what she said. The second time, the pain in his stomach was so intense that he didn’t have the strength to fight back.
Autumn Rhodes was at a loss for words. ’She’s right,’ she thought. ’If it wasn’t an act, why would that man just stand there and let Vera Xavier hit him?’
Still, Autumn Rhodes felt something was off about the whole thing, though she couldn’t quite put her finger on it.
Meanwhile, a few students nearby had gathered around, peppering Vera Xavier with questions. The fact that she had gotten a perfect score on every subject of the college entrance exam was a miracle in itself, enough to win her a legion of fans.
Her decisive handling of the incident, combined with the other students’ natural interest in anything involving a performance, had piqued their curiosity.
Vera Xavier, operating on the principle of getting along with others while she focused on her studies, answered all their questions gently and politely. She never expected that this simple act would earn her a reputation at the university for being humble and courteous.
When Wesley Kane emerged from the restroom clutching his stomach, he saw Vera Xavier in the middle of the crowd. Hearing the other students’ praise for her, he was so angry he could have spit nails. ’Humble and courteous? You people just haven’t seen her violent side!’
Wesley Kane desperately wanted to march into the crowd and expose Vera Xavier for who she really was. But he had barely taken a single step before a sharp pain lanced through his stomach again, forcing him to scramble back to the restroom.
Vera Xavier had given him a laxative. It wasn’t particularly harmful, but it was enough to make him suffer a fair bit.
Before coming to Veridia, she had prepared a whole assortment of pills. While some could certainly save lives, others were designed to do harm.
She knew she would inevitably run into Susan Caldwell in Veridia. Given Susan’s malicious nature, there was no telling what schemes she might cook up to harm her, so Vera had to be fully prepared.
Still, she hadn’t expected to use one of her pills on her very first day of school, much less that the recipient would be Wesley Kane.
’Some people are just asking for trouble,’ she could only conclude. ’There’s no stopping them.’
When a student asked Vera Xavier where she was headed after registration, she mentioned she was going to The Imperial Palace. Immediately, several other students from out of town said they wanted to go too. And just like that, her plan to visit The Imperial Palace alone turned into a group outing.
As Vera Xavier boarded the bus with the group of students, she mused to herself, ’My first day of school has already been so eventful. It looks like the next four years won’t be boring at all.’
And she found she quite enjoyed being with this group. As top students from all over the country, they spouted historical facts and anecdotes as they toured The Imperial Palace. They explained the origins of various halls and artifacts, and described the rules and regulations that governed the palace’s construction. Vera Xavier felt that coming with them had been the right decision.
They were practically free tour guides, and their knowledge far surpassed that of any ordinary guide. With so many of them, one person would share a fact, another would add a detail, making the tour both incredibly informative and entertaining.
