Chapter 538: Chapter 538: The Scumbag’s Comeuppance (4)
All Wesley Kane wanted right now was to get to a restroom and deal with his emergency.
But Vera Xavier held him fast. She was so obviously slender and frail, yet her grip on his hand was so strong he couldn’t break free at all. He glared at her, furious.
Vera Xavier, however, was still all smiles. She continued to explain to the crowd, "This is Mr. Kane, a fellow townsman of mine. He’s currently a third-year acting major at the Veridia Academy of Drama. He loves writing short skits and finding people to run scenes with. This is a new play he wrote called The Scumbag’s Downfall. Thank you all for your support. If you’re interested, you can go support him at the Academy of Drama!"
The students who could get into Veridia University were all sharp. At their age, they also admired individuality and performance art. So while the performance just now had been a bit startling, they also found it quite original.
So someone started clapping and shouted their approval. Once one person started, the other students followed suit.
Vera Xavier returned the gesture with a gentle smile, then turned to Wesley Kane and said unhurriedly, "If you have more plays like this to rehearse in the future and can’t find a scene partner, you can always look for me. But I have to say, your script is a little melodramatic, especially with the part where you get hit yourself. We all understand, though. You’re sacrificing yourself for art. I’m impressed, truly impressed!"
’Impressed, my ass! She’s just trying to torture me to death!’
Wesley Kane wanted nothing more than to strangle her right then and there, but she maintained that gentle smile, looking as mild-mannered as could be.
’He’d spent all last night planning for today. He was banking on the fact that this kind of situation would be impossible to explain away. Plus, this wasn’t Crestfall, and Nathaniel Nathan wasn’t at school today, so no one would be here to stand up for her.’
’He had thought that even if he couldn’t completely destroy her reputation this time, he could at least brand her as promiscuous.’
’But what does she do? She actually claims they were just acting!’
’Acting, my ass!’
’And what the hell was that thing she made him eat earlier? His stomach hurt so much! He couldn’t hold it in anymore!’
Vera Xavier smiled at Wesley Kane and asked, "So, fellow townsman, what do you say?"
Her question seemed to have a wheedling, almost cute tone, but Wesley Kane couldn’t appreciate any of it. All he wanted right now was the restroom.
But she seemed dead set on it; if he didn’t answer, she wouldn’t let go!
Wesley Kane was filled with a burning hatred, but he was completely helpless against her. He had no choice but to nod against his will.
With that nod, he was admitting that the whole incident had just been an act.
Vera Xavier said with a smile, "Then it’s settled. Come find me at the university when you’re free. I’m in the Veridian College of Liberal Arts. It’s easy to find."
The meaning behind her words was crystal clear: Wesley Kane was welcome to look for her often, but if he dared to show up, she would use "acting" as an excuse to give him a good thrashing. He could come if he had the guts!
Wesley Kane’s face went pale with pain, and another strange noise erupted from his body.
Vera Xavier immediately let go of his hand and deftly leaped a good distance away. The moment she released him, he clutched his stomach with one hand and his rear with the other, then bolted toward the restrooms in an utterly comical, waddling sprint.
Vera Xavier laughed and summed up the event: "Acting majors really are something else. Even the way they walk is especially funny. I’m so impressed."
Her words immediately drew agreement from the other students. "It is pretty funny."
