After they finished registering, Sheldon Caldwell spoke to Susan Caldwell while Winter Sullivan was away in the restroom. "Susan, I don’t know what your history with Vera Xavier is, but listen to my advice—don’t go provoking her anymore."
This was his heartfelt advice as an older brother to his younger sister. He could only hope Susan would take it to heart.
Susan Caldwell had calmed down by now and said with a smile, "Sheldon, you’re reading too much into it. Vera Xavier and I are really good friends."
Sheldon Caldwell glanced at Susan. Seeing the earnest look on her face, he sighed softly. ’Other guys have sweet and adorable little sisters, so why is mine so devious? To play games and lie over something so small... it’s just exhausting.’
Just then, someone nearby called out to him, "Sheldon, you’re here too!"
Sheldon Caldwell turned and saw Shane Caldwell. He grinned and clapped his cousin on the shoulder. "Hey, not bad, kid! You made it into Veridia University too. Seeing you guys get in so easily, I’m starting to wonder if the university lowered its admission standards this year."
Shane Caldwell chuckled. "The standards aren’t too low. We’re just that good."
He had arrived late, so he missed Vera Xavier, but he did run into his family.
Sheldon Caldwell laughed too. Just then, Winter Sullivan returned. Shane Caldwell greeted her respectfully, "Aunt Winter."
Winter Sullivan smiled faintly. "I haven’t seen you in a few years, Shane. You’ve grown into a young man. Didn’t your aunt come to see you off?"
The Caldwell family had three children: the eldest son, Julian Caldwell; the second son, Simon Caldwell; and the third, Daisy Caldwell.
Julian Caldwell and Daisy Caldwell both lived in Veridia; only Shane Caldwell’s father, Simon Caldwell, remained in their hometown of Crestfall. Julian was always busy with work, so this time, Shane was staying at Daisy’s house after arriving in Veridia.
Daisy Caldwell’s home was quite far from Julian Caldwell’s, so although Julian knew Shane had arrived in Veridia, he’d been too busy with work to see him. Bumping into each other here was quite a coincidence.
"My aunt was going to come see me off, but I figured she had to work, so I just came by myself," Shane Caldwell said with a smile.
Winter Sullivan nodded. "You don’t get to visit Veridia often, and on top of that, you’ve gotten into Veridia University. We should all have dinner together tonight to celebrate your arrival."
Shane Caldwell agreed with a smile.
As Vera Xavier and Damian Yale walked toward the dorms, she glanced at him and said, "Senior, while helpfulness is a wonderful quality, your level of enthusiasm is a little overwhelming for me."
Damian Yale smiled. "Don’t worry, you’ll get used to it."
Vera Xavier’s brow furrowed. "’Get used to it?’ I don’t think that’s necessary. Besides, we barely know each other."
With that, she pulled the small cart from his hand. "I can see the dorms now, so I won’t trouble you any further. Thank you!"
Damian Yale was stunned for a second time. Vera Xavier was already walking away, pulling the cart with unshakable calm. A small smile played on his lips as he followed her. "Vera Xavier, interested in joining the student council?"
"Not interested," Vera Xavier rejected him outright. ’Many students join the student council to build their skills, but as someone who has already lived two lifetimes, I don’t need that kind of training anymore.’
’Besides, I’ve already made plenty of plans. My four years of college are going to be exciting enough as it is. I don’t need to add anything else to my plate.’
