Chapter 519: Chapter 519: A Powerful Face-Slap (Part 1)
The Special Assistant’s head throbbed at the suggestion. The truth was, being told to "use discretion" always presented the most difficult situations.
He thought for a moment before saying, "Regardless of whatever backgrounds Rowena Kirby and Mimi Gibbs have, we can’t condone a public fight like this. I’ve decided to handle it according to company regulations: give them each a demerit and announce it to the entire company."
"I have no objection to that," Seth Maverick said after a brief pause. "I heard Nathaniel Nathan was extremely unhappy about this incident. From now on, the dormitories for male and female employees must be kept separate. We can’t let them visit each other anymore."
The company did have regulations stating that the dormitories for male and female employees were separate and that visiting between them was forbidden. However, staff at the manager level and above had their own dedicated dorms. Since they were in leadership positions, this rule hadn’t been strictly enforced for them.
"Is that really a good idea?" the Special Assistant asked, his head aching.
"What’s not good about it?" Seth Maverick said dismissively. "This will keep certain managers from thinking they’re entitled to special privileges just because they’ve climbed to a certain rank. I’m letting the entire company know that we don’t have those kinds of privileges here."
The Special Assistant shot him a knowing grin. "Don’t think I don’t know what you’re really up to. If you keep spoiling Nathaniel Nathan like this, just be careful that kid doesn’t bring the whole sky crashing down on you one day!"
The Special Assistant had seen right through it. Seth Maverick could talk a big game, sounding all magnanimous and principled, but in reality, wasn’t this all just to keep Nathaniel Nathan happy so he would stay obediently at the company instead of trying to run off every day?
It wasn’t the first time a minor company policy had been changed over a single comment from Nathaniel Nathan. Who could blame them? The kid was the real deal, so there was a reason the Chairman spoiled him. No one dared to object publicly; otherwise, they’d probably be beaten to a pulp by Nathaniel himself at the next company-wide martial arts tournament.
’Come to think of it,’ the Special Assistant realized, ’Nathaniel Nathan seems to be the most domineering person in the whole company—even more so than our chairman!’
"Relax, he always knows his limits," Seth Maverick said with a laugh. "Besides, even if he did bring the sky crashing down one day, he’s still got his old man to clean it up, doesn’t he?"
The Special Assistant shot Seth Maverick a contemptuous look. "You were just talking about treating everyone equally, no special privileges. You’re really something else, Mr. Chairman!"
Seth Maverick just laughed, unfazed. It was true that he’d spoiled Nathaniel Nathan over the years, but the little rascal had always been very measured, knowing exactly what he could and couldn’t do.
Nathaniel Nathan himself never mentioned his family background. In fact, the only people in the entire company who knew of his connections were Chairman Seth Maverick and his Special Assistant.
In the army, Nathaniel Nathan had relied solely on his own formidable abilities. He was his own man; even his illustrious family background was just a footnote, unable to detract in the slightest from his own brilliance.
Word of the fight between Rowena Kirby and Mimi Gibbs spread through the company the very next day. They had always been the two most dazzling women in the company, and they remained so now—only their brilliance was now colored by something else entirely.
Both women were punished. In addition to receiving a demerit, they were each placed in confinement for one day.
When Scott Sullivan heard the news at the company, he tsked several times. ’Those women are unbelievably stupid. They know perfectly well that Nathaniel Nathan submitted his marriage application—the man is officially taken—yet they’re still fighting over him? They must have been kicked in the head by a donkey!’
His thoughts turned to Vera Xavier, who seemed so delicate but had possessed the nerve to use herself as bait. He silently offered a moment of pity for the now-confined Rowena Kirby and Mimi Gibbs.
