Chapter 512: Her Confidence (Part 2)
Chapter 512: Chapter 512: Her Confidence (Part 2)
Vera Xavier’s question stumped the two men again. They exchanged a look and both burst out laughing.
After they stopped laughing, Brian Dixon pointed at Isaac Shawcross and said, "This is Professor Shawcross, the dean of the Veridian College of Liberal Arts."
Vera Xavier just said, "Oh." Brian Dixon asked, a little curious, "He’ll likely be your advisor in the future. Aren’t you going to suck up to him a little?"
Vera Xavier smiled and said, "Sucking up is something students with no confidence do. I’m so exceptional, I shouldn’t need to, right?"
Brian Dixon couldn’t hold it in any longer. He slapped his thigh and roared with laughter. "Shawcross, this girl is exactly like you when you were young! So brazen!"
Isaac Shawcross said disdainfully, "Who’s like her? I was very well-behaved in front of my own professors back in the day. Not like her at all!"
Vera Xavier nodded and said, "You make a very good point, sir. But the semester hasn’t started yet!"
Her implication was clear. The semester hadn’t started, so he wasn’t her professor yet. She could afford to be a little wild.
This time, even Isaac Shawcross found her a little interesting. He asked her, "Then what will you do after the semester starts?"
"Then I’ll obviously have to cling to your leg and not let go, sir!" Vera Xavier replied.
Her answer once again took the two men by surprise. Brian Dixon asked, "Didn’t you say that only students who aren’t exceptional enough suck up to their professors? And don’t you consider yourself quite exceptional?"
"That’s right. And there’s no contradiction!" Vera Xavier replied. "You must not have been listening closely, sir. I said cling to a leg, not suck up!"
"Is there a difference?" Brian Dixon asked with a smile.
Vera Xavier said with a straight face, "Of course there’s a difference, a huge one. ’Sucking up’ is abstract and intangible. A leg is real and tangible."
Brian Dixon froze for a second, then laughed so hard he cried. "Where on earth did you come from, kid?"
"From Crestfall," Vera Xavier replied.
Brian Dixon clutched his stomach as he said to Isaac Shawcross, "Shawcross, you won’t be bored this year. You’ve got such an interesting student!"
Isaac Shawcross couldn’t help but crack a smile at Vera Xavier’s response either. This girl really wasn’t like other students. She seemed so brazen, but she did get a perfect score in every subject. She had the right to be.
One moment she’s talking about lofty principles, and the next she’s completely shameless. Her personality truly leaves one at a loss for words, yet you can’t bring yourself to dislike her.
Isaac Shawcross looked at Vera Xavier and said, "My leg isn’t so easy to cling to. And given that you made me lose three games in a row today, I’ll be giving you a special ’welcome package’ after the semester starts. You’d better go home and prepare for it!"
"Now that’s not very kind of you, sir," Vera Xavier said with a smile. "What does you losing three games in a row have to do with me? It’s clear you lost to yourself."
Isaac Shawcross paused. He realized she was right. He had lost the first two games because of his own psychological hang-ups, and in the one game he played against her, he had lost face.
Vera Xavier then added, "But if you’re really going to give me a ’welcome package,’ sir, you’d better put some real thought into it. I’m afraid you might be the one in for a shock."
Isaac Shawcross shot her a glare. "Don’t you worry. I’ll make absolutely sure it’s an experience you’ll never forget."
Vera Xavier smiled. "Alright then. I’ll be going. See you when the semester starts, sir!"
With that, she slung her small bag over her shoulder and walked away leisurely.
