Vera Xavier pursed her lips and said, "Who says liberal arts students have to be worse at board games than science students? Besides, some people are geniuses in both fields but just happen to prefer literature, so they choose to study liberal arts at Veridia University instead of science at Veridian University, you know?"
In the country, the best university for liberal arts was Veridia University, while the best for science was Veridian University. Both were top-tier national universities, each with its own particular strengths.
Her words were very much to Isaac Shawcross’s liking, and he studied Vera with a new sense of appraisal.
"Is that so? Do geniuses like that really exist?" Brian Dixon said with a smile.
Vera smiled too. "Of course! Take me, for example!"
This time, Isaac Shawcross smiled too. ’This girl is incredibly brazen!’
He said with a laugh, "I heard a student who scored full marks on every subject got in this year, someone named Vera Xavier. You couldn’t possibly be her, could you?"
The world wasn’t that small; he was just saying it offhandedly.
Vera grinned. "Wow, you’re amazing, sir. You guessed my name just like that. I’m so impressed!"
At her words, both Brian Dixon and Isaac Shawcross froze for a moment. They sized her up again. "You’re Vera Xavier?"
"That’s right!" Vera let out a soft laugh. "I am indeed Vera Xavier. If you gentlemen don’t believe me, I can show you my ID."
Brian Dixon and Isaac Shawcross exchanged a look. Every year, Veridia University admitted the nation’s most brilliant students, but no matter how exceptional they were, none had ever achieved a perfect score on every single subject.
After all, with the essay portions of the language and English exams, graders could always find some fault and dock a point or two.
Another applicant had achieved a perfect score several years ago but ultimately chose not to enroll. That meant Vera Xavier was the first student in the university’s history to actually attend after scoring full marks.
Brian Dixon burst out laughing at Vera’s words. "That won’t be necessary."
After speaking, he looked at Isaac Shawcross and said, "Shawcross, I bet this girl will be the most satisfying student you’ve ever had. She’s not just brilliant—her temperament is a perfect match for yours. Not an ounce of humility!"
Isaac Shawcross also chuckled. "Not just lacking in humility, she’s also full of cunning."
He had figured it out by now. Vera’s earlier claim that he would lose was just a psychological ploy. She had commented on two specific pieces, and he had, in fact, hesitated while playing both of them.
This also served as indirect proof of the girl’s sharp powers of observation.
Vera knew that Isaac Shawcross had figured some of it out, so she simply offered a faint smile and remained silent.
But Isaac Shawcross added, "However, when someone who is truly talented is constantly being modest, saying they’re no good at this or that, it’s actually an insult to everyone else. After all, no one does it better than they do."
Vera smiled again, and Brian Dixon roared with laughter. "That goes beyond not being humble, that’s just narcissism!"
Isaac Shawcross then asked Vera, "Young lady, do you recognize us?"
He and Brian Dixon were both titans in their field. They had been interviewed by various newspapers and media outlets, and their faces had appeared on television and in print, which was why he asked.
"Nope!" Vera immediately denied it. "I grew up in the countryside. This is my first time in Veridia."
Then she added, "Are you two famous or something?"
