Chapter 510: Chapter 510: We Meet Again (8)
Brian Dixon smiled and said, "Shawcross, isn’t that a bit ungentlemanly of you?"
"What good is being a gentleman? It won’t help me win." Isaac Shawcrosscross shot Vera Xavier a sidelong glance. "This young lady stood here and distracted me for two whole games, making me lose to you. She’s the one with no class, so why should I show her any?"
Vera Xavier chuckled softly at his words. ’This teacher of mine... he has the exact same personality. It feels so familiar, so reassuring.’
Isaac Shawcrosscross looked at her and said, "What’s so funny? Isn’t what I said the truth?"
Vera had only laughed because she was marveling at how he was exactly the same as in her past life; there was no other meaning behind it.
So she nodded immediately. "You’re right, sir. For someone as classless as me, you certainly don’t need to show any class! You take the black pieces, sir!"
Then she added, "But I have a feeling... that even if you take the black pieces, sir, you’ll still lose this game to me."
Isaac Shawcrosscross glared at her. "You’ll soon find out just how wrong that feeling is!"
Vera Xavier smiled without a word. Isaac Shawcrosscross had already placed a black stone on the board, and she immediately followed with a white one.
The two played at a rapid pace. As soon as Isaac Shawcrosscross placed a stone, Vera Xavier would place hers. With Vera playing so quickly, Isaac Shawcrosscross naturally couldn’t fall behind, so he would make his move just as fast.
Back and forth they went, and the game was over in no time. Vera Xavier had won against Isaac Shawcrosscross by four stones.
Vera Xavier said with a beaming smile, "You went easy on me, sir."
The look in Isaac Shawcrosscross’s eyes grew more complex. His earlier frustration was gone, replaced by a calm tone as he said, "So you do have a few tricks up your sleeve. No wonder you were so bold earlier."
He held a great deal of respect for talented and capable people.
Vera Xavier smiled. In a serious match, she actually couldn’t beat Isaac Shawcrosscross. It was just that she had played countless games against him in her past life and was intimately familiar with his playing style, knowing all his go-to strategies.
Furthermore, she had set a blistering pace. While Isaac Shawcrosscross hadn’t underestimated her, he was a prideful man. When she played fast, he would match her speed.
When the game’s pace quickened, there was no time for deep thought; they were playing purely on experience and instinct. Therefore, it was only natural that he would lose to Vera, who knew his style inside and out.
Brian Dixon, however, was smiling. "Young lady, you’re really quite impressive. You play so fast and so well! How about we play a game?"
Vera Xavier shook her head. "I can’t. It’s too late, and I need to be heading back."
Brian Dixon asked her, "Are you a student here at the university, young lady?"
"Yes, I’m a new student," Vera Xavier replied. "I’m officially registering tomorrow."
Brian Dixon and Isaac Shawcrosscross exchanged a glance, then Isaac Shawcrosscross asked, "What’s your major?"
"Chinese Language and Literature," Vera Xavier answered.
Isaac Shawcrosscross’s eyes instantly lit up. ’So, she’s going to be one of my students! How interesting. From now on, I can just pull the teacher card whenever I’m bored and summon her for a game. Let’s see if she still dares to beat me then!’
Brian Dixon and Isaac Shawcrosscross had been friends for many years, so Brian immediately guessed what his friend was thinking. He smiled and said, "Ah, so you’re a Chinese Language and Literature major. You play Go so well, I assumed you were a STEM student."
Most people believed that the best Go players were usually STEM students, as the game involved a fair bit of calculation.
