Chapter 203 - 148: The Good Person Card 2
Chapter 203: Chapter 148: The Good Person Card 2
Stepping out of a shoe store, Gao Yuan said to Yaoyao and Yanyan.
"Aren’t you going to get something to eat with us?"
"I have some things to take care of at home."
Yaoyao was a little unhappy. If she had known Gao Yuan was planning to leave early today, she wouldn’t have come out shopping. They had only spent a few hours together, and now he was already going home.
Waving goodbye to them, Gao Yuan headed straight for the elevator.
As he stood in the elevator, Gao Yuan found himself wondering what Lin Wanyu and Li Mengqing were making for dinner at home. ’They didn’t just call for a chef again, did they?’
DING!
The elevator stopped, but not to go straight down to the underground garage. It had stopped on the second floor.
Gao Yuan looked up as a woman stepped inside. She had long, straight black hair and an elegant air about her, and she was carrying several shopping bags.
Upon entering the elevator, the woman couldn’t help but notice the tall, well-built Gao Yuan standing there, but she only spared him a single glance before turning away.
Gao Yuan stood behind her. Since they were the only two people in the elevator, he began to size her up with interest.
’Nice figure, great aura,’ he thought. ’And with that Chanel outfit and LV bag, she’s definitely not short on cash.’
Gao Yuan didn’t notice that the elevator doors were as reflective as a mirror. As he was brazenly checking her out, the woman saw his gaze reflected in them.
Sun Lan frowned slightly. Through the reflection, she saw the eyes of the man behind her. While his gaze wasn’t exactly lecherous, he was staring at her rear, which made her extremely uncomfortable.
She was just about to turn and glare at him when she suddenly felt that the man seemed familiar.
DING!
The elevator arrived at the underground parking garage.
Sun Lan exited the elevator hesitantly. Gao Yuan followed her out and walked straight toward his car.
"Gao Yuan?"
Just as he was about to open his car door, he heard a charming voice call his name from behind him. He stopped in his tracks.
Gao Yuan turned around. The only person behind him was the woman from the elevator.
The woman strode over to him, smiling as she said, "It really is you!"
"I’m Sun Lan."
Sun Lan walked up to Gao Yuan, studying his face for a few more seconds before speaking.
Gao Yuan, in turn, took a closer look at the woman. Now that he was really looking, he realized he knew her after all.
It had just been so long that he hadn’t recognized her in the elevator.
"What a coincidence, classmate."
"I know! I haven’t seen you at all since graduation. I never expected to run into you here."
Sun Lan looked at Gao Yuan, thinking she never would have expected her old university classmate to be so charismatic now. And he looked much more handsome than before.
More importantly, she recognized the car he had been walking toward. She was floored that such an expensive car actually belonged to him.
Back in university, Gao Yuan had been quite ordinary. Even though he was a student leader, one look at how he dressed was enough to tell he came from a modest background.
Who would have thought that after eight years, they’d meet again and she’d almost not recognize him.
As they chatted, Sun Lan also noticed the watch on Gao Yuan’s wrist.
"Gao Yuan, I can’t believe it. You were so low-key back in university, and now you’re the most successful one from our old group!"
"Successful?"
Gao Yuan followed Sun Lan’s gaze to the Jaeger-LeCoultre on his wrist and then glanced at the illuminated headlights of his Brabus, a slight smile playing on his lips.
"If these things are a measure of success, then I suppose I’m doing quite well."
Gao Yuan said this with righteous confidence, making no attempt to be humble.
In front of close friends like Qin Yichuan and Zheng Zhi, he would have been even more brazen with his bragging.
In front of strangers, he would have been more humble and low-key.
But in front of a beautiful woman who was not only a former university classmate but also someone with whom he’d once had a bit of a history, Gao Yuan had no desire to be low-key.
At a time like this, who was he supposed to be modest for?
What was there for a man to hide in front of a woman, especially one who had been a part of his life as he was growing up?
Seeing Sun Lan’s slightly stunned expression, Gao Yuan suddenly felt the urge to tease her and added another sentence.
"To be honest, even when you have all this, there’s still a certain emptiness. After all, you lose a lot of wonderful things along the way."
At that moment, Gao Yuan’s words, "you lose a lot of wonderful things along the way," echoed in Sun Lan’s mind. Looking at the tall, handsome man before her, whose smile was as warm as a spring day, her long-dormant heart suddenly began to beat anew.
’The wonderful thing he lost... is he talking about me?’
Sun Lan couldn’t help but ask herself.
"Since we’ve run into each other, why don’t we go for a drink?"
Her mind instantly flooded with memories from their university days, and she couldn’t help but extend the invitation.
"I’m afraid I can’t today. I have something I need to get home for."
Despite how gorgeous his former classmate had become, now possessing the mature charm of a married woman, Gao Yuan still refused.
Back in university, they had been in the same year but different classes. Sun Lan was never that one unforgettable love for him; they had simply gotten to know each other because they were both in the student union, and more specifically, in the publicity department.
After a while, rumors started spreading that the two of them were in a relationship or something close to it. Then, out of the blue, Gao Yuan got friend-zoned by her.
After that, his interactions with Sun Lan dwindled. Especially after graduation, despite having each other on WeChat, they never once contacted each other.
Gao Yuan had never even so much as liked one of her posts.
