Chapter 486: New World of Ocean Survival
The sky tore open, and seawater surged backward. Everyone feared for their lives.
Bramble had bound two shrunken trees at the bottom of the sea and was quickly retracting toward the raft.
The Goliath was already entirely enveloped by the Energy Shield, glowing like a radiant pearl amidst the violent winds and monstrous waves.
As Bramble worked to reel them in, the vines extended a branch to wrap around it, pulling forward to help drag it along.
Eamon currently huddled in the planting room, too terrified to move. “God, this is terrifying,” he thought. “Is the world ending? Will I ever make it home alive?”
Cole Kensington and Bella stood anxiously beside Faye Yardley, terrified that something might happen to her.
Compared to them, Willow Yardley appeared much calmer. She was even in the mood to clean up and head to the breeding room to tend to the livestock.
“You don’t need to hover over me. Relax, everything will be fine. Look, the crack in the sky was completely pitch-black at first, but now there are specks of blue light shining inside.” Faye hadn’t taken her eyes off the sky since the rift appeared, not even daring to blink.
[Friendly Reminder: All players bound to a personal raft may choose to detach from the survival system.]
Faye didn’t make a move. Only a fool would detach from the survival system at a time like this. Facing such cataclysmic destruction alone without the system meant the odds of survival were abysmally low. Sure, this might be a one-time opportunity to completely escape the control of the Sea Survival System. But she had no intention of doing something without absolute certainty.
Besides, wasn’t she living perfectly fine in this World of Ocean Survival? She was in her element. If she left the system, how else could she improve her combat prowess this rapidly?
Without needing much deliberation, she had already made up her mind. As long as the system didn’t kick her out, she was going to stick with it for the rest of her life!
Sensing her thoughts, the system suddenly spoke in her mind. [Thank you for your trust, Player Faye Yardley. You truly possess a heart that yearns for strength. I’m rooting for you~]
Faye couldn’t help but smile. The system was likely the type that single-mindedly pursued self-improvement as well, which was why it favored hardworking and ambitious people.
“System, do you like Logan Langdon?”
This time, the system gave no reply, and Faye didn’t press the matter.
The rift grew larger, and the waves crested higher and higher, seemingly intent on pouring straight up into the tear in the sky. The raft was soon carried high into mid-air by the swelling waves.
Faye hadn’t expected the raft to actually be swept into the sky rift by the ocean’s surge. Furthermore, it wasn’t just her Goliath. One after another, a dense swarm of various rafts converged into a vast, floating river in the sky.
Outside the rafts was a band of light formed by a convergence of blue specks. Every single raft was shrouded in a layer of blue light, making it impossible to see exactly what was happening outside.
She had no idea how much time had passed. The raft felt as though it was traveling at the speed of light, yet simultaneously sitting perfectly still. Faye had already been sitting cross-legged, circulating the Health Care Scripture through several Grand Circulations. Other than the blue light outside growing denser, there seemed to be no changes at all.
When she opened her eyes, everyone else was gathered not far around her.
Glancing at the Thunder Arc Tree in the corner of the balcony, Faye tried to call Zachary Pierce, but the interface indicated a temporary connection failure. She then tried everything else one by one, only to get the exact same result. Even her friends on the All World Communication were completely unreachable. It was only now that she realized she couldn’t even open the system’s holographic screen. Contacting anyone through the chat channel was entirely out of the question.
It seemed they were truly in a very special place right now. However, she felt no anxiety in her heart.
Not only was worrying useless, but the system had also given her explicit hints earlier. It had even praised her good judgment for sticking with it. So what was the point of overthinking? She was never the type to second-guess herself anyway.
“Why are you all crowding around me? Are you that bored?” she asked.
Bella pointed outside. “Are you really not worried at all, Faye?”
“We’re all together, so what is there to worry about? Since we have nothing better to do right now, let’s practice our martial arts.” Faye stood up and rolled her wrists, looking ready for a fight at any given moment.
Cole’s eyes lit up. “Let’s all head to the training room. You and Eamon can be on a team, and Bella and I will team up. That way, our combat strengths should be about even.”
“Sure. Since you’re so confident, let’s go. We don’t know how long this is going to take anyway.”
To their surprise, they ended up waiting for ten whole days.
It was the first time Faye felt that staying at home with absolutely nothing to do could be so agonizingly boring. All those people who clamored about wanting to do nothing and just lie flat had probably never experienced this kind of limbo—not knowing what would happen the next second, unable to do anything about it, and being so idle they were practically growing mold.
Speaking of which, today was November 29th. She had promised Nora Nash and Momo that they would visit the Giant Clan together on December 1st. Now it looked like she would have to break that promise. Still, Faye maintained a positive mindset. She had no choice but to miss the appointment.
After a harsh, grating burst of static—BZZZT—the familiar system notification chime rang out in her mind.
[Dear players, it’s been a few days since we last met. You all must have been worried sick! Congratulations, you all survived! Rest assured, you are still in the World of Ocean Survival. However, moving forward, you will no longer just have your peers from Aquaria by your side. Players from Viridian Star and Aurum Prime will be keeping you company as well. Isn’t that a wonderful surprise?! Everyone must continue to strive for the top. No slacking off!~]
Immediately following this, the blue light surrounding the raft began to fade. Then, before anyone could react, Faye experienced a straight-down freefall from high altitude—while still inside the raft.
The bone-jarring impact with the sea she anticipated never happened. Instead, they landed softly and smoothly on the azure ocean surface.
Looking around, there were still no other rafts in sight.
[Luck +1]
Faye was genuinely shocked. They had just landed on the water, and she was instantly awarded Luck Value? What kind of move was this?!
Her Luck stat had previously been 10↑, but now it had tangibly increased to 11↑.
“System, my Luck Value has broken past the maximum limit. Why is that?”
She hadn’t expected the system to reply, but surprisingly, it did.
[It is a reward for the Unknown Fragment and your firm choice to stand by the system’s side~ It’s also Luck Value stripped from the person who obtained the fragment~]
Faye was astounded. She thought the system had already compensated her; she had no idea there was more to come. What thrilled her even more was that this Luck had been stripped directly from Logan Langdon. With his Luck Value plummeting, things certainly wouldn’t go his way as smoothly as before. How delightful!
“Almighty System, you’re the best! I will keep working hard. I promise to overpower the players from the other two planets and become the absolute number one on the combat power leaderboard!”
[Keep it up!]
Faye thought to herself that the system seemed to be in a great mood as well. It looked like whatever it had plotted using Logan had successfully achieved its original goal. Did it swallow up the Sea Survival Systems of the other two planets?
In stark contrast, Logan—who had chosen to detach from the system—was standing on the back of his massive spider when he suddenly tasted something metallic in his throat and coughed up a mouthful of blood.
Nina quickly supported him. “Logan, are you okay? You need to rest.”
“I’m fine. Where’s Chloe?” Logan wiped the corner of his mouth, feeling as though something vitally important had been expelled along with that mouthful of blood.
“Miss Chloe vanished after she threw herself into that rift in the sky.”
“Hah. She left, so why aren’t you leaving?”
Nina helped him sit down, speaking with profound affection. “It’s wonderful being with you, Logan. As long as you can keep giving me your love, I won’t ever leave. It’s the same for the others. We will all stand firmly by your side.”
Love? Logan’s lips curled into a mocking smirk. He had finally broken free from the system’s chains. From now on, the sky was the limit, and the world was his oyster. He was bound to achieve even greater heights. What was a minor injury compared to that?!
