Chapter 474: A Confusing Truth
Chapter 474 -472: A Confusing Truth
When Willow Yardley suggested they try using meat infused with Divinity, Faye Yardley fell into a thoughtful silence.
But then she remembered Logan Langdon had been to that island too, so he probably wasn’t short on that kind of meat.
She thought about the special clementines and red apricots from her garden. ‘Maybe he’ll be interested in those. Oh, whatever. My harvest isn’t that big anyway.’
‘But there’s no way I’m inviting him onto my raft.’
After some thought, Faye Yardley decided she could ask Master Veridian and Mr. Zephyr Sterling to help.
She called the Master directly.
“Master, Master, could you please do me a favor?”
“Of course. There’s no need to be so formal.”
Faye Yardley explained everything—her desire to know why Logan Langdon wanted so many people mining on his island, and all her worries. She asked for his help inviting Logan to a raft so she could use a Truth Card to uncover the real story.
He agreed right away. Master Veridian chuckled. “To be honest, I’m quite curious myself. That’s a lot of people. If that island is really hollowed out and collapses, all those lives will be lost with it.”
If you die in the World of Ocean Survival, it’s because of your own incompetence. You can’t blame anyone else.
But now, as his islanders, the Island Master has to be responsible for their lives to some extent.
If his plan was to lead them to their doom from the very beginning, that would be utterly despicable.
It was hard to say whether it was the Refined Island Entry Order that tempted Logan Langdon, or if he had other plans for the Master and Zephyr Sterling, but in any case, he agreed as soon as they asked.
He didn’t even object when they mentioned they would also be inviting Faye Yardley, Zachary Pierce, and the others.
Faye Yardley took out a Truth Card and carefully filled in the keywords: Logan Langdon, Island #10198, spider Egg Ore, 300,000 islanders.
Then, carrying a small plate of red apricots and clementines, along with a basket of ordinary fruit, she headed over to Zephyr Sterling’s raft early.
“Ah, Yardley, you’re here. Just a moment.” The Master spoke as he set up a barbecue grill in the open area outside his cabin, laying out all sorts of ingredients.
“Wow, a barbecue! I haven’t grilled my own food in ages. In that case, I’ll go get some ingredients too.”
Soon, Faye Yardley saw her brother, Gavin Donovan, Zachary Pierce, and two middle-aged women she didn’t recognize.
They seemed like a cheerful bunch. The moment they arrived, they started helping with the grill and taking gifts out of their backpacks.
Logan Langdon and Henry Lewis were the last to arrive.
When Ethan Yardley saw Logan Langdon, he strode over, enthusiastically opening his arms to give him a big hug, patting him firmly on the back. “Haha, Mr. Langdon! Long time no see! You’ve become even more mature and full of charm.”
Though not used to such enthusiastic greetings, Logan Langdon stepped back with a smile. “Mr. Yardley, long time no see. I do hear news about you all on the system quite often, though.”
“Haha, same to you! What have you been busy with lately? Your island recruited another 100,000 people. The food consumption for that many people must be massive. Can your island even keep up with the supply? Need your big brother here to help out? The fields at our guild headquarters have a pretty high yield.”
Ethan Yardley’s words seemed to dispel any suspicion Logan Langdon might have had; he probably just thought Ethan’s enthusiasm was a bid to do business with him.
As for Henry Lewis, Zephyr Sterling led him inside as soon as he arrived. Zephyr was practically a professional physician by now. But even though Henry Lewis accepted the gesture, he still gave Zephyr the cold shoulder, though Zephyr didn’t seem to mind too much.
However, Gavin Donovan, who had followed them inside, grew angry watching Henry Lewis treat Zephyr Sterling so poorly. ‘None of us owe Henry a thing,’ he fumed internally. ‘Why do we have to constantly put up with his unreasonable, erratic tantrums?’
“Henry, since you can’t see anymore, why don’t I talk to our boss about having you join our guild? You could teach martial arts to the kids at the headquarters. That way, you’d have something to do…”
Gavin Donovan’s next words were drowned out by Henry Lewis’s roar of rage.
“Gorgeous Yardley, do you happen to have any more tree eyes? If so, I’m willing to pay a high price for them.”
That was the first thing Logan Langdon said as he walked over to Faye Yardley. ‘He seems genuinely concerned about Henry Lewis this time,’ she thought. Out loud, however, she feigned confusion. “Mr. Langdon, didn’t you get the specific island coordinates last time? Have you not gone yet? I already told you last time that I don’t have any. If I did, they’d be of no use to me, so I would have been more than happy to trade them with you.”
“I went, but unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get any.”
‘That sounds completely unbelievable.’
But Faye Yardley didn’t argue. She was still reeling with shock and confusion from the truth she had just uncovered.
[Truth Card Used: Logan Langdon wants to gather the energy from the spider Egg Ore to do something world-shattering that will affect every player in the World of Ocean Survival.]
‘Spoken like a true protagonist,’ she thought wryly. ‘Always trying to do something big.’
‘But what kind of major event could possibly affect every single person in the World of Ocean Survival?’
‘And System, you already know he’s planning something big. Are you really not going to do anything to stop him?’
‘This “truth” from the Truth Card is so vague. It’s a complete waste of the word “truth”.’
Seeing Faye Yardley’s silence, Logan Langdon leaned in closer. “Gorgeous Yardley, did anything special happen when you were on the island?”
Ethan Yardley came over and squeezed between them. He let out a hearty laugh and said, “You should be asking me about that! I went to that island with the tree eyes too. If you want to know what was different… I’d guess it’s that we went ashore at night, while you guys landed during the day, right?”
“Oh, is that right? That’s fantastic. Thank you, Mr. Yardley, for giving me such a crucial piece of information.”
Grilled seafood cooks quickly, and soon the fragrant aroma of the barbecue filled the air.
A weather-beaten middle-aged woman placed a giant grilled mantis shrimp on a tray and handed it to Faye Yardley. “Here, dear. Try some of my handiwork.”
Faye Yardley smiled at her and took the tray. “Thank you so much. What should I call you, ma’am? I’m Faye Yardley.”
The two moved off to the side to eat and chat. Eating didn’t stop the woman from continuing to grill, however.
She seemed particularly satisfied just watching Faye Yardley eat the food she’d cooked.
While grilling some oysters and conches, the woman quickly slipped a note into Faye Yardley’s hand.
Faye Yardley was genuinely surprised by the move. ‘What’s this about?’
Using the excuse of needing the restroom, she got up and walked toward the cabin. Once inside the first-floor bathroom, she opened the note. It read: “Leah Chandler knows what Logan Langdon is planning. She transferred her monthly access to the Isle of Damnation to him.”
‘Seriously? If it was too difficult to say out loud, couldn’t she just send me a friend request and message me?’
‘And why tell me this in the first place?’
‘No wonder Leah Chandler was always able to take them to the Isle of Damnation. It turns out she had monthly access to the island.’
‘An opportunity like that can actually be transferred?’
‘Well, the System’s items were endlessly strange and varied. There was too much she didn’t know, so it wasn’t all that surprising.’
‘So, this Miss Alden knows Leah Chandler, and they seem to be on pretty good terms.’
Faye Yardley decided she would send her a friend request later and ask for more details.
‘The other woman was very quiet, not speaking at all. The Master must have had a reason for inviting her.’
The moment she stepped out of the restroom, she heard Gavin Donovan’s happy voice. “Boss!”
