Chapter 459: The Magic Seed Grows a Thunder Tree
Chapter 459 -457: The Magic Seed Grows a Thunder Tree
Faye Yardley didn’t just wait around on the raft. After opening the chest, she went back into the sea.
The moment she entered the water, she could feel it was even less calm beneath the surface than above. Strange fish, carried by the tide, swarmed her in wave after wave.
Of course, they were all blocked by her protective shield.
As she descended, the strange fish converged on her as if they’d caught the scent of a delicious meal.
Faye Yardley went on a killing spree!
To her dismay, all the strange fish were contaminated and couldn’t be broken down.
So, other than gaining combat experience, she got nothing out of it.
The more she killed, the angrier she became. People tend to do irrational, impulsive things when they’re angry.
And that was Faye Yardley right now. She plunged headfirst into The Thunderhead, swimming rapidly through the seawater, which buzzed with a numbing current. She even surfaced right in the middle of it, a seed and a flowerpot appearing in her hands.
The Magic Seed fell into the flowerpot just before a bolt of lightning blasted it to bits.
The Magic Seed truly lived up to its name. Perhaps the energy in The Thunderhead was just that abundant, but in the blink of an eye, it took root and sprouted.
By the time the flowerpot was shattered into smithereens, the seed had already tenaciously grown a shoot.
It even helpfully absorbed the electric arcs swirling around Faye Yardley, carving out a small, safe haven for her.
Seeing the Magic Seed sprout, Faye Yardley’s mind cleared, and the vexing emotions vanished completely.
Ugh…
‘I guess I really was affected by the maddening influence of the Black Sea Water after all.’
‘It makes sense. I was in the water for too long. Even with Bramble’s protection at first, getting injured later still had a major impact.’
‘I just didn’t pay it much mind at first. I thought I had already suppressed that rage while I was on the raft.’
‘Turns out I only suppressed it temporarily. The moment I got back in the water, it was triggered all over again.’
‘Still, this isn’t a bad outcome.’
Looking at the new Magic Plant before her, already taking the shape of a large tree, Faye Yardley figured this was a blessing in disguise.
It had black branches and leaves that flashed with electric arcs.
What started as tiny branches so thin they looked like they would snap in the wind were now as thick as a grown man’s arm, all in under half an hour.
Its leaves had begun to multiply as well.
Just as Faye Yardley was about to leave, she found herself snagged by the new tree’s slender roots. It felt as if they were trying to say, ‘Don’t go. Watch me grow.’
The growth of every Magic Seed was truly a wondrous thing.
In any case, next to this little tree, she was completely unaffected by the electric currents of The Thunderhead and the influence of the Black Sea Water.
So Faye Yardley simply sat cross-legged on the surface of the sea beside the little tree.
She began her Cultivation, practicing the Health Care Scripture right beside it.
She had to admit, the environment for Cultivation here was excellent. The moment she started, the Health Care Scripture circulated and absorbed energy at a much faster rate than usual.
Immersed in her Cultivation, Faye Yardley was unaware that as time passed, the small sapling beside her was gradually growing into a towering tree.
Its trunk was thick and pitch-black, but the leaves it grew were a translucent blue, flashing with electric arcs.
The tree grew taller, its leaves more numerous. It was truly flourishing.
It actively absorbed all the lightning, purified the energy, and then channeled it into Faye Yardley.
From a distance, Faye Yardley now appeared to be enveloped in a sphere of light formed by arcing electricity.
Deep below, Bramble was hard at work absorbing energy from the Black Sea Water. The new tree, however, was rooted in the water but drew most of its energy from the lightning overhead.
One above and one below, they seemed to not interfere with each other, but they were secretly competing for the energy at the boundary where their domains met in the water.
Fortunately, since they both belonged to Faye Yardley, they were on the same “team” and didn’t come to blows.
But since both wanted to advance, they naturally fell into a “healthy” competition.
To Bramble, this new tree was a much more formidable rival than the previous vine or the Seven-Colored Tree.
Those other two couldn’t compare to its place in its master’s heart, but this one was different. Bramble suddenly felt a sense of crisis.
When Faye Yardley opened her eyes again, her Attributes had increased by a large margin.
For the past few days, system announcements had been constantly reminding her of her Cultivation progress.
But the Cultivation felt too good. She didn’t want it to end, so she kept at it until today, when she felt she could no longer advance through pure Cultivation alone.
All in all, her physical constitution had improved significantly over these five days.
[Agility +3, Spirit +2, Strength +2, Constitution +2]
Her perception of the outside world had been dulled during her Cultivation. Now, as she opened her eyes and stood up, she discovered that the seed she’d planted had become a towering tree. Standing at its base, she couldn’t even see the top when she looked up.
She reached out to wrap her arms around the trunk. ‘Good heavens,’ she thought. Not only could she not get her arms around it, but she could press herself flat against the bark with her arms spread wide.
“You grew so fast,” Faye Yardley said, patting the trunk. “And you’re so sturdy.”
Lightning was still crashing down in this area, but it all struck the canopy, unable to harm Faye Yardley in the slightest.
The Thunder Tree clearly conveyed its joy and happiness. It liked its master’s hug.
Then, a branch bent down and patted Faye’s shoulder, putting on a show for her by going through the entire process from flowering to bearing fruit.
It seemed every Magic Plant had this ability, provided it had enough energy.
Faye Yardley watched as it produced a fruit crackling with lightning.
“Is this for me?”
It nudged the fruit toward her mouth, and Faye Yardley didn’t hesitate, taking a bite.
[Congratulations! You have consumed a Thunder Fruit. Lightning will no longer pose a danger to you. Your lightning resistance is now maxed out! Congratulations, you can now walk around outside during thunderstorms.]
“Whoa, whoa! Thunder Tree, you’re incredible! And this Thunder Fruit you made is amazing! It maxed out my lightning resistance in one go.”
As Faye Yardley spoke, she touched the trunk and was surprised to feel its weakness.
‘It seems producing a fruit like that isn’t easy.’
‘I was going to ask it to make another one for my brother if it was easy.’
‘Looks like I’ll have to wait.’
“Thank you. That must have taken a lot out of you.”
The Thunder Tree conveyed a happy emotion to her.
Faye then looked up and asked, “I’m getting ready to go back to the raft. I won’t be staying in this area for long. Are you coming with me, or are you staying here? Actually, just across the boundary should be the waters where my island is. It’s just… that side and this side belong to different domains.”
Although the Thunder Tree was reluctant to part with its master, it felt it was better suited to stay here and accumulate energy.
If it left this place only to be unable to help its master, what would be the point of tagging along?
So it clearly conveyed its intention to stay put.
“Thunder Tree, I’ll miss you! You have to protect yourself while you’re here. If you run into other people or any danger, just shrink down and hide…”
