Chapter 458: The Unknown Fragment Actually Disappeared From My Hand
Chapter 458 -456: The Unknown Fragment Actually Disappeared From My Hand
Honestly, waiting is incredibly boring.
Maybe it was because they were right on the edge, but she couldn’t even fish up any treasure chests.
Faye Yardley, who wasn’t a big fan of fishing to begin with, put away her rod and headed straight for the training room.
When she came out of the training room, the weather outside had gotten even worse.
The Energy Protection Shield on the raft had already changed from transparent to a milky white.
The consumption of Energy Stones was accelerating.
Sure enough, the lightning rod installed on the raft had stopped working.
It seemed the System was trying to force her out of the area.
‘But if I was able to come here, why is it suddenly trying to stop me?’
Faye Yardley decided to move the raft back ten nautical miles.
Sure enough, the strength of the lightning strikes weakened a bit.
“System, System, what happens if I cross the border?”
No matter how Faye Yardley asked, this time the System just played dumb, giving no response at all.
“Fine, don’t tell me. So stingy.”
She looked out at the still-turbulent sea. ‘I wonder how Bramble is doing down there.’
A small hand reached out from the waves. A green vine quickly wrapped around the small wrist and pulled the person up.
“Lucy White? Are you okay?”
“COUGH, COUGH… I’m okay, I’m okay. You don’t have to worry, Faye. COUGH… I’m fine now.”
Lucy White had simply lost track of how long she’d been using the Water-Repelling Pearl. When it expired, she struggled in the sea for a while before finally reaching the surface.
She was human, but not entirely human, so she still couldn’t move freely in the sea like some Otherkin.
Not long after she returned, Cole Kensington came back as well.
Seeing that both of them looked a little rough, Faye Yardley said, “Sorry, I moved the raft back a bit. It must have made you misjudge your time in the water.”
“It has nothing to do with you, Faye! I just got carried away with the killing and forgot,” Lucy White said, looking a little embarrassed. After all, she wasn’t strictly a child.
Cole Kensington also said it had nothing to do with her.
“By the way, Kingston, I wanted to ask—after you ate the heart from that Frost Beast Behemoth book, did you feel anything special? Or has your strength increased?”
Cole Kensington shook his head. “No. Maybe I’m just too stupid and haven’t figured out its purpose yet.”
‘Nothing at all?’
Faye Yardley studied Cole Kensington, perplexed. ‘That can’t be right.’
‘Eating something as important as a heart had no effect whatsoever?’
‘It was less effective than it was for her, who just recorded the book’s ley lines? Did that make any sense?’
Lucy White patted Cole Kensington’s arm. “Kingston, I think you should try to condense what you ate at the location of your heart. What if a book appears there, too? That would definitely be useful.”
This wild idea stunned both Faye Yardley and Cole Kensington.
Cole Kensington said directly, “I’ll go back and try it then.”
With that, he ran off toward his cabin.
Faye Yardley patted Lucy White’s head. “You should go get cleaned up, too.”
She then returned to her own room and took out the Silver Treasure Chest. After examining it for a moment, she realized it was indeed different from all the other Silver Treasure Chests she had opened before.
First, it had a thin golden line running across it, which was barely visible unless you looked closely.
‘Could Golden Treasure Chests evolve from Silver Treasure Chests?’
After some thought, she took a shower to clean herself up. She touched her hair, her fingers finding the Ruby Hairpin, before reciting the familiar spell to open the chest.
[Acquired: Home Binding Card ×1, Unknown Fragment ×1, Island Occupation Order ×1, “Come On Beans” Recipe ×1, Hello Greeting Card ×1, Cool Little Pink Car ×1]
Talent triggered… rewards tripled.
The four Unknown Fragments had just landed in her hands when they vanished in a flash of light, right before Faye Yardley’s disbelieving eyes.
‘Hey, those are my rewards! On what grounds did they just vanish?’
They were nowhere to be found, not on her person, nor anywhere on the raft.
‘Do the Unknown Fragments get to be so freaking awesome just because they’re “unknown”?’
‘My stuff just disappeared without a word. No, it didn’t even say anything, it just… poof.’
‘So frustrating!’
Fuming, Faye Yardley could only turn her attention to the other items.
Thankfully, the other items didn’t also perform a terrifying vanishing act.
[Hello Greeting Card: The person who receives your greeting will become very, very happy. Trust me, they’ll become happy in a second, even if they were on the verge of death that day.]
[Cool Little Pink Car: If you can dream it, I can become it. Use your greatest imagination, and I can transform into any shape you desire.]
[Home Binding Card: Are you still worried about not being able to find your way home? Are you still annoyed about paying travel fees to get home? With me, none of that is a problem. (Note: Must be bound to your own home~)]
“Wow, this is great. If it weren’t for the incident with the Unknown Fragments, my mood today would be through the roof.”
She didn’t need the Island Occupation Orders, and it seemed her brother didn’t either.
Still, she kept two in her storage and traded the other two to Zachary Pierce.
She traded the Island Occupation Orders for two tokens she had never seen before. According to Zachary Pierce, they had just gotten them from a chest as well.
And surprisingly, they had also reached the edge of the World of Ocean Survival.
Faye Yardley watched a video of the scene over there; the natural climate was even harsher than on her side.
‘So, are the boundaries this easy to reach now?’
‘Or is the entire World of Ocean Survival actually shrinking?’
She looked at the tokens in her hand. One was a pale yellow War Order: Use it to incite a war between two factions, with the smallest scale being a war between two guilds.
One was a grayish-brown Cross-border Token: Want to go somewhere else? This token can take you to another world for fun.
‘They were both interesting, but she probably had no use for them, right?’
‘Into her private storage they went.’
She had personally experienced the effect of the “Come On Beans”; they were incredibly popular with Otherkin children, on par with “Gimme Gimme Candy.”
She immediately entered the recipe into her workbench, only to discover that the raw materials were genuinely hard to find. In fact, she couldn’t find them all even in her massive planting room. Even more ridiculously, one of the ingredients was Energy Stones.
It’s no wonder people liked them. Who wouldn’t love something that contained energy and had no side effects?
She didn’t trade the other recipes, either, putting them away directly.
‘What would happen if she used the Home Binding Card on herself right now?’
Fortunately, though the thought crossed her mind, she didn’t act on it. After all, Faye Yardley still remembered Bramble.
She was afraid that the moment she bound it, she’d be sent back to Conch Isle, leaving Bramble behind. That would be a huge loss for her.
Looking at the card, however, Faye Yardley smiled. ‘The System wouldn’t be getting any more travel fees out of her.’
What she didn’t know was that the Unknown Fragments she had gotten from the chest had now appeared in a box in Logan Langdon’s hands.
“Chloe, see? You can’t go wrong picking me. I’m the Chosen One! HA HA HA… I get whatever I want, just like that.”
“Of course. My judgment has never been wrong. We just need two more pieces to have them all.”
