Chapter 457: The Gurgling Bubbles Breeding Sea Monsters
Chapter 457 -455: The Gurgling Bubbles Breeding Sea Monsters
Just as Faye Yardley drew ever closer to the Silver Treasure Chest’s location, the once dark and silent depths suddenly began to churn, the seawater boiling up in angry bubbles.
The BLUB BLUB BLUB sound was enough to make one’s skin crawl.
Each bubble gave Faye Yardley a terrible feeling. ‘Are there Sea Monsters gestating inside?’
Her hands, more attuned to danger than her mind, had already acted. Her right hand gripped Light Wound, while the Arm Crossbow on her left arm fired an arrow.
PFFT~
A bubble was pierced. Accompanied by a shrill scream, it burst with a loud POP.
She was already surrounded by black seawater, but even so, she could clearly see a spray of thick, viscous, black liquid erupting from the ruptured sac.
A grotesque, fish-like monster with half its head split open charged straight at Faye Yardley, its every movement radiating intense hatred.
However, this half-formed creature, whose head could be so easily pierced by a single Crossbow Arrow, was no match for Faye Yardley. After being cut to pieces by Light Wound, its corpse was immediately entangled and devoured by vines sprouting from Bramble.
The bubbles, like boiling water, appeared one after another, so numerous they could trigger a sense of trypophobia.
A single monstrous fish posed no threat, but when their numbers climbed into the hundreds, even thousands, they would cause Faye Yardley significant trouble.
As Bramble detached from her wrist, unfurling its body and growing rapidly to send out vines to intercept and slaughter the monstrous fish, Faye felt an oppressive tightness in her chest.
With Bramble holding back the monstrous fish, Faye Yardley suppressed her growing agitation and, wasting no time, continued toward the location indicated by the system.
The occasional straggler that slipped past Bramble couldn’t harm her in the slightest; at most, they were a minor hindrance.
The Silver Treasure Chest glowed with a faint, Yvonne-white light. The closer she got, the more numerous the monsters became, and the stronger they were.
This gave Faye Yardley the distinct and ominous feeling that this particular Silver Treasure Chest was bad news.
This was especially true when a monster with red, bell-like eyes, a bloody maw, and a long, serpentine body ambushed her from behind. Her instincts screamed a warning, and she threw herself backward, rolling to the side.
Truthfully, the maneuver lacked the speed and agility it would have had on land. But she didn’t just dodge; she had already switched to a reverse grip on Light Wound and slashed open the monster’s flesh.
This only enraged the monster further.
Faye Yardley had thought herself a formidable fighter underwater, but her performance still paled in comparison to what she could do on land.
This was especially true when facing a monster native to these deep seas.
In its final moments, the creature’s high-agility, high-damage constricting attack managed to wound her before it died.
Though injured, Faye Yardley was well-stocked with potions. She quickly took a styptic, a blood-replenisher, and an antidote.
Despite this, she could still feel the black seawater seeping into her body through the wound, making her increasingly volatile, stirring a faint, terrifying urge to destroy everything.
After collecting the Silver Treasure Chest, she discovered a Transmission Disc underneath it.
She tried to pick it up, but it wouldn’t budge.
She took Light Wound and began hacking and slashing wildly at the Transmission Disc and the surrounding coral.
She didn’t stop until the nearby coral was reduced to dust and the Transmission Disc was shattered to pieces.
Now, a vast curtain of light stood before her. Through this barrier, Faye Yardley could see clear seawater on the other side.
She didn’t touch it, nor did she have any desire to destroy it. Even as the urge to annihilate everything raged within her, a sliver of reason held on.
While she struggled to calm her inner turmoil, Bramble’s slender roots plunged directly into the shattered disc.
A vine appeared before her, then gathered its Strength and produced a small, ice-blue flower, which it offered to her lips.
Instinctively, she opened her mouth, and the small flower was placed inside.
Faye Yardley felt a cooling sensation spread from her mouth, and her violent agitation was instantly suppressed.
“Bramble, I’m heading back first. I’ll wait for you where we were before.”
Without a moment’s hesitation, she turned and left.
Bramble, meanwhile, happily began absorbing Strength from the surrounding black seawater.
Faye cut down countless monstrous fish on her way back to the churning sea surface.
It took considerable effort to get back onto her raft.
The sky was no longer just overcast; it was a storm of thunder and lightning, a frantic dance of silver serpents.
What a truly apocalyptic scene.
A massive delivery truck appeared beside the raft. The deliveryman grumbled, “Deliveries in weather this bad ought to cost extra.”
Faye Yardley wasn’t stingy. After he placed all the Flower Dew on her raft, she gave him a 50 silver coin tip.
‘It’s always the same guy,’ she thought. ‘He’s clearly responsible for my route, so there’s no point in making things unpleasant over a little money.’
‘Besides, I’m not exactly short on cash.’
The deliveryman, upon receiving the tip, brightened up instantly. He even threw in a piece of news as a bonus: “You’d best not go any further. The area ahead is no longer part of your Ocean Survival zone.”
“Okay, thanks.”
Once the deliveryman was gone, Faye Yardley gazed out at the region where lightning fell like a torrential downpour. ‘I doubt any number of lightning rods would do much good against that,’ she mused.
‘So the ocean in the World of Ocean Survival has a boundary after all.’
‘I’ve never really considered it before. I only knew the World of Ocean Survival was massive. After all, with so many rafts out here, you hardly ever meet anyone.’
‘To think I’d actually end up at the border.’
‘But isn’t my island on the other side of that barrier?’
Faye Yardley never dwelled on things she couldn’t figure out.
‘I just have to make sure I don’t touch that light curtain and damage it.’
‘After all, my island is on the other side of that light curtain. Judging by the color of the water here, this place is anything but friendly. The last thing I want is to bring some unnecessary disaster to my island.’
RING RING~
“Brother, you needed something?”
Ethan Yardley stared in shock at the environment behind his sister. “What’s going on with you? It looks like the Thunder Strikes are even more concentrated over there. Didn’t you say you invited a friend to help, and that the clouds had already cleared up for you?”
“Yeah, well, my raft left its original spot and I rammed headfirst into this awful weather.”
“Your luck has always been so good, though. This shouldn’t be happening.” Ethan was worried about his sister. “Quick, invite me over. At least I can be of some help.”
Faye simply showed her brother her surroundings, then said, “The weather’s just a little bad and the waves look big, but they’re no real danger to my raft. And don’t worry about the creatures in the sea that attack on sight. My companions on the raft can handle them without me even lifting a finger.”
Ethan felt a pang of regret at being unable to help his sister, his pride as a big brother taking a small hit. Still, knowing she was okay was more important than anything.
“Alright then. Remember to call me if you need help.”
“Don’t worry. If I really can’t handle something, I’ll definitely call my big brother for help.”
