Chapter 495: Chapter 424: Corrupting Marina Goldsmith (Part 2)
Otherwise, even if the Earth isn’t destroyed in the end, humanity will still be unable to survive!"
"What do you want to do?"
"Nina Rook told me that I have a Divine-level internal space. It has a total of eight fragments, scattered to the far corners of the Earth.
If I want to grow stronger, I have to find them!"
Hearing Flora’s words, Lex Cross’s brow furrowed, his expression filled with concern. "Alright, I’ll go with you. But you have to promise me that if we run into danger, you’ll do as I say. No taking foolish risks."
Flora’s lips curved into a smile. "Don’t worry, I won’t be reckless! How could I possibly put Polly in danger?"
Lex Cross froze for a moment. "You’re bringing your daughter along?"
Flora nodded. "She’s my daughter, so of course she’ll be with me. Besides, even though she’s still little, you’ve probably noticed she’s a natural-born Thunder Ability User. Let her come with us and see this apocalyptic world, experience some of its hardships."
Lex Cross hesitated for a moment. "I have no objections. I can protect you both, but I don’t think your parents will be easy to convince."
Flora knew that, of course. She just had to look at the way her parents took turns doting on Polly. Outside of her nap times, they wanted to hold her every single second.
"I’ll find some time to talk to my parents. If that doesn’t work... we’ll just sneak away!"
To get her parents used to their granddaughter not being around, Flora had recently started keeping Polly by her side at all times, whether at home or out.
Fortunately, she had prepared all the necessary baby supplies at the start of the apocalypse. She strapped Polly to her chest in a baby carrier and took her everywhere.
At first, the people in Morhaven Base didn’t understand why Flora was always carrying such a small child around. But that changed one time when Flora was hunting in the forest with Polly. The tiny infant suddenly unleashed a bolt of lightning, instantly killing a thick-skinned wild boar.
Everyone who saw it was stunned.
Lex Cross, watching from a tree, hadn’t made a move. The base had no other Thunder Ability User. It was therefore all but certain that the bolt of lightning had come from the baby in Flora’s carrier.
One day, the base’s communication station received a message from Argent. Although their battle against the zombie horde outside the city was a victory, the number of casualties among Argent’s superpower users was also high.
Over a hundred low-level superpower users had died, with no fatalities among the Middle Level ones.
And this was the result even with Sherman Lynch and several veterans from Argent joining forces to fight.
In contrast, not a single one of the superpower users sent from Morhaven as reinforcements had died.
Caleb Bloom and the others analyzed the report and concluded that the number of Middle Level zombies in the Argent battle had surged dramatically. There were no issues with the superpower users’ coordination or combat experience.
The only problem was their weapons.
Although the superpower users in the battle each wielded a weapon that had been enhanced by a Middle Level user, they lacked defensive equipment.
Low-level zombies posed no threat to the current superpower users. Middle Level zombies, however, were another story. Due to the level disparity and humans’ natural lack of defense, an encounter with a Middle Level zombie almost always resulted in serious injury.
Not only did people have to fight to avoid getting hurt, but the injured also had to resist infection from a higher-grade zombie virus.
Low-level superpower users had weak resistance to the virus from Middle Level zombies.
In light of this outcome, Flora immediately thought of Winston Goldsmith, the High-level Gold Ability User at Korsan Base. He had already reached High-level and had considerable skill in crafting equipment.
If, before the great war, they could train most of the Gold Ability Users in the bases to High-level and teach them all to craft various types of weapons, then their preparations for the war in the third year of the apocalypse would be far more adequate.
And so, after making contact, Flora took Polly, with Lex Cross by her side, and boarded their comfortable flying mount, the Golden Crow. They quickly arrived at Korsan Base, which wasn’t far from Argent.
This was not Flora and Lex’s second visit; they had been here several times since first discovering it. They occasionally came to trade specialty beast meat and produce from the Morhaven forests for supplies with the mountain folk of Korsan Base.
The most common items they traded for were pieces of equipment crafted by Winston Goldsmith.
This time, Flora’s party of two adults and one child had merely informed the elders at home before departing swiftly for Korsan Base. They didn’t give her parents any time to object; by the time they could have, the travelers had already reached their destination.
"Flora, you’re here. You mentioned on the communicator that you wanted to borrow some people from me. You are...?"
