Chapter 494: Chapter 424: Corrupting Marina Goldsmith
After Polly was born, Flora Bloom, aside from breastfeeding, had become the person with the most free time.
Because whenever she had a spare moment, the baby was either sleeping or being held in turns by Jade, Cynthia Grant, Maeve Preston, and Shelly.
She, the mother, had only held the baby at birth and during feedings. The rest of the time, she couldn’t even touch the hem of her clothes.
The same was true for Lex Cross.
Ever since Flora gave birth and returned to her room, Lex Cross had been glued to her side, heading downstairs on schedule to bring her five meals a day.
On the third day, while Lex Cross was downstairs, she changed her clothes and walked down the stairs herself.
"Oh, Flora, why are you down here? Go back and lie down! A woman needs to rest for the full month after giving birth to recover properly!"
Flora Bloom smiled and shook her head. "Mom, things are different now. I’m a High-level Superpower User, and I have spiritual water to help me. Why would I need to be confined to my bed? I can’t lie in bed any longer! Please let me go out for a walk!"
Evangeline Rook hadn’t lied. After giving birth to Polly, the color gradually returned to Flora Bloom’s cheeks. The postpartum weakness she had anticipated never occurred. In fact, after having Polly, her body felt even better than before.
Lex Cross brought over a bowl of nutrient-rich porridge. After handing it to Flora, he smiled at Jade and said, "Mom, Flora is recovering well, and her body is back to normal. I’ll take her out for a walk so she can relax a bit."
Jade looked at Lex Cross, her beaming expression making it clear that she was pleased with her son-in-law in every possible way.
"Why are you calling her ’Mom’? She’s my mother!"
"We have a daughter together, and you still want me to call her ’Auntie’? I’m a responsible man, you know!"
Jade shot Flora a sidelong glance. "Exactly. Young Thorne takes such good care of you every day. What, you’re not even going to make it official with him?"
Just then, Caleb Bloom walked in from outside. He saw his wife and daughter were both present, then his gaze fell on Lex Cross.
He couldn’t deny that Lex Cross was an outstanding man. Having spent time with him recently, Caleb recognized that he was a man you could rely on.
But as a father, whenever he recalled the perilous and weakened state his daughter had been in during childbirth, he just couldn’t help but feel that something about Lex Cross rubbed him the wrong way.
"Dad, what’s wrong? You don’t look well," Flora said, looking at her father. "Did something happen?"
"It’s nothing. We’ve taken Orinburg, but Old Lynch took Tian and the others to provide reinforcements in Argent. I’m just a little worried."
"Argent? Are the zombies back?"
Caleb Bloom glanced at Lex Cross. "Yes, but it’s alright. Young Thorne’s men went to provide support as well. By the way, the information department received more reports today. Several small bases have already been destroyed."
At this, Caleb Bloom shook his head helplessly. "Young Thorne, if the day comes when the Earth is torn apart, and we old folks haven’t reached that level... you must take Flora and the others and leave."
Flora Bloom’s expression froze at her father’s sudden, somber words. "Dad! What are you saying? That day will never come!"
After giving birth to Polly, Flora Bloom cherished life more than ever. Polly would already miss out on the normal childhood of a pre-apocalypse kid; if she lost Earth, her "home," then what kind of childhood would she have at all?
"Lex, I need to talk to you."
Lex Cross nodded. After a brief gesture to Caleb Bloom and Jade, he led Flora away from Villa No. 3.
They went to the giant nest in the golden parasol tree. The phoenix egg inside still showed no signs of hatching. The Golden Crow was sprawled motionlessly on top of the enormous egg.
"Golden Crow, why are you perched on this egg every day? What’s the story with this thing anyway? A magnificent Golden Crow like you, reduced to being an egg incubator?"
"I... What do you know! This is called camaraderie!"
After teasing the Golden Crow, Flora sat down in the nest, facing Lex Cross.
"Lex, you once said there’s something that can stabilize a region of spacetime. How do we get it?"
"Inside the Star Nation of the Ancient Universe. Or, within the Outer-domain Battlefield."
"You said that only by reaching Nebula Level can someone survive deep within the Star Nation. But because of the limitations of the space inside my body, I need to use Crystal Stones to advance every time I break through to a new major tier.
"Nebula Level, Planet Level, Cosmic Level, Divine-level. If I want to protect Mom, Dad, and Polly in the future, I have to get stronger."
Lex Cross nodded. "I understand. You want me to take you to the Star Nation to find a Space Stabilizer, right?"
Flora nodded. "It’s more than that. I can’t just stay holed up in the Morhaven base, doing nothing. There are still more than two years before that great war. I want more people to survive."
