Overpowered Resident Doctor

Chapter 606 - 605: Abandoning Illusions

Chapter 606: Chapter 605: Abandoning Illusions

Psychological counseling is when a therapist uses professional expertise and verbal communication skills to help a patient "process, decompress, and find direction." This changes the patient’s self-perception, thereby enhancing their capabilities and improving their personal development.

This process depends on the patient’s trust and honesty.

Yan Feifan had nothing to hide about his emotional response to the shooting incident in the United States, so he told Mr. Miao everything in one go.

After talking for over an hour, Yan Feifan truly felt a sense of relief in both mind and body.

"This was really helpful, Mr. Miao. It worked wonders."

Miao Quan scoffed lightly. "You’ve always been resistant to psychotherapy. You were just a bit more honest today, so of course the session was effective."

"You could tell, Mr. Miao?" Yan Feifan asked, a little surprised.

Miao Quan chuckled softly. "Telling whether a patient is being honest is a fundamental skill for a therapist."

"Did you think your high IQ meant you could hide it that well?"

Seeing Yan Feifan’s embarrassed expression, Miao Quan couldn’t help but smile. His tone then turned serious. "Feifan, I’ve noticed something..."

"When you’re faced with danger or a difficult situation, you prefer to go on the offensive. You’re even willing to take dangerous risks and make bold gambles."

"It’s not that this proactive approach is bad, but it’s the kind of strategy where one careless move can cost you everything."

Miao Quan warned, "In the current climate between doctors and patients, you must be exceptionally cautious when dealing with high-risk cases. Make sure you communicate thoroughly with the patients and their families."

Yan Feifan chuckled. "I’ll be sure to keep that in mind, Mr. Miao..."

After the counseling session, Mr. Miao and Yan Feifan chatted for a while longer, staying past the end of the workday.

Yan Feifan met up with his sister and Yu Suye. They stopped at a bakery to buy a small cake before heading back to their apartment at Zuimo Court, where they found that Auntie Du Qiu had already prepared a lavish dinner.

Tian Yu came jogging over to greet them. Taking the cake, she asked with a delighted expression, "Are you guys celebrating my birthday early?"

Yan Feifan patted Tian Yu on the head and explained, "I’m going to be busy starting tomorrow, so we have to celebrate a couple of days early."

Tian Yu cheered, "Thank you, Mr. Yan! Thank you, Ruoruo! Thank you, Su Ye! I’m so touched I could cry!"

"Ouch... Mr. Yan, you flicked my forehead again..."

After a quick wash-up, the group gathered around the dining table. They ate, drank, sang "Happy Birthday" to Tian Yu, and gave her presents when it was time for cake.

The gifts were nothing too extravagant, just practical things: a backpack, a cartoon-themed wallet, a water bottle, plus a new pair of sneakers and some athletic wear.

Of course, the items they gave were of excellent quality and price, all from high-end, niche brands.

After dinner, Yan Feifan went back to his bedroom to deal with a few things that had piled up over the last couple of days.

Around ten o’clock that night, he received a call from Deng Shao in the United States, who informed him that the brain tumor patient had woken up.

An examination showed the patient was conscious with sensation in all four limbs, though the vision in his left eye and the hearing in his left ear had declined significantly.

Overall, the surgery was a great success.

Deng Shao then condemned the shooting incident and offered Yan Feifan his sympathies.

Yan Feifan also learned from him that the male assistant had recovered enough to get out of bed and would be returning to the country in a few days.

After ending the call, Yan Feifan couldn’t help but wonder.

’Does that guy Deng Shao know the patient wasn’t his business partner?’

’Has he been kept in the dark this whole time?’

’Or was he in on it, a participant in the whole thing?’

Yan Feifan pondered for a moment before forcing himself to stop overthinking.

The matter was now on the radar of the relevant authorities back home. They would undoubtedly investigate Deng Shao’s background thoroughly, so there was no need for him to worry about it.

He was back home safe, he’d received his one-million-US-dollar fee, and the patient had successfully woken up.

As far as Yan Feifan was concerned, the matter was closed.

With that thought, Yan Feifan dialed a number in the United States.

The phone rang twice before it was answered. Duan Yu’s voice came through, "Good morning, Mr. Yan!"

"It’s nighttime over here."

Yan Feifan corrected him before asking, "How are you feeling?"

"Alright, I guess."

Duan Yu’s voice grew faint. "I just can’t eat anything. It’s tough being this hungry."

"You have an intestinal injury, so of course you can’t eat," Yan Feifan comforted him. "You just need a bit more time to recover."

"They’ll be giving you nutrition intravenously, so your body isn’t lacking any nutrients. The hunger you feel is just psychological. You’ll have to endure it and push through."

Duan Yu hummed softly over the phone, then said, a hint of embarrassed annoyance in his voice, "Mr. Yan, how could you tell my superior the private things I told you?"

"You mean about you and that chef?"

Yan Feifan explained, "I was talking to him about you, and I thought it was a good opportunity, so I just went ahead and mentioned it."

"Hey, Duan Yu, after you’ve recovered, you can go back to work in Jingcheng."

"I told him that your next work assignment should be based on your own preferences."

After a pause, Duan Yu’s voice came through the phone again.

"They told me about that."

"I’ve decided I’d rather come back to work with you."

"Working with you is relaxed, for one, but more importantly, you’re a good guy and you’re dependable when it counts."

"That’s great news," Yan Feifan said happily.

"Duan Yu, tell your boyfriend that if the organization can’t arrange a job for him in Binhai, I’ll take care of it."

"Whether it’s working in logistics at the Affiliated Hospital, as a chef in the cafeteria, as a chef in another restaurant, or even opening his own place—I can arrange it."

Duan Yu replied without hesitation, "Thank you, Mr. Yan. I’ll discuss it with him..."

As he ended the call, Yan Feifan saw his sister come to his side and took the tablet she handed him.

"Feifan, this is the legal document I asked Mr. Jiang to draft. Take a look."

Yan Feifan quickly skimmed it and saw it was a legal document, similar to a will.

The document stipulated that if either Yan Ziruo or Yan Feifan were to be incapacitated, the other would have full power of attorney over all their personal and financial affairs.

If something were to happen to both of them simultaneously, their maternal uncle, Shu Lei, would inherit twenty percent of their assets, with the remainder being donated to the Extraordinary Fund.

It also specified that if one of them were to marry or have children, this power of attorney would no longer belong to the other sibling, but would automatically transfer to their spouse or adult child.

The document specifically stated that their parents, having failed to fulfill their parental duties, would have no right of inheritance whatsoever.

"Sis, I’m fine with all the terms."

Yan Feifan handed the tablet back to his sister. "Have you seen that kid who’s coming to study at the medical school?" he asked.

Yan Ziruo shook her head, then asked eagerly, "Feifan, are you planning to teach that brat of his a lesson, as payback?"

Yan Feifan scoffed lightly. "Sis, I’m not that petty. I don’t need to get revenge for every little thing."

"I’m just going to act like this whole thing never happened."

"But if anything like this happens again, don’t blame me for being ruthless..."

Even though Yan Feifan’s tone was level and his expression was calm, Yan Ziruo knew that this time, her brother was dead serious.

That lawyer’s letter had shattered any illusions her brother had about their parents.

Her heart aching for him, Yan Ziruo stroked her brother’s head. "Feifan," she said comfortingly, "you have me, you have our uncle, you have Su Ye, and you have Xiaoyu. And in the future, you’ll have more and more people who love you..."
