Chapter 6690: Unexpected Outcome
Jie Tianran completely immersed himself in the deciphering of the sealing formations.
Meanwhile, Chu Feng continued to be struck and tempered by the blue lightning. As the frequency of the lightning strikes increased, the amount of blue aura in his body, which aided his physical recovery, increased.
The blue aura was only a temporary buff—it was bound to disappear once the trial was over—but on top of raising his speed of recovery, he realized that he could wield it as his own cultivation as well.
It reached a point where the blue aura’s power surpassed his cultivation to reach Heavenly God level.
But Chu Feng had no interest in that. What was more important to him now was his speed of recovery. The faster he healed, the higher the intensity of blue lightning he could withstand, thus allowing him to build the steps faster.
...
Jie Tianran showcased the full extent of his talent, and the old entity within him was also offering him pointers. Despite the increasing difficulty, he was deciphering the sealing formations faster and faster.
The rest of the world was oblivious to the trials they were undertaking, but they could guess based on the steps that were being built from the gates to the golden throne. Everyone’s eyes were focused on the two stairs.
The stairs continued to rise, and in just a few short days, the trial concluded.
Zi Ling, Little Fishy, and the others had long arrived at the location they had agreed upon with Chu Feng. They had been keeping an eye on the changes in God’s Era. The atmosphere was tense.
Everyone was worried, be it Zi Ling, Little Fishy, the Totem Dragon Clan’s Clan Chief, Long Mucheng, or even the older elders like Jie Shanxian.
Fei was the only one who was relaxed, sitting on a chair with crossed legs while munching on a roasted goose. It was as if everything that was happening right now had nothing to do with him.
“What’s there to worry about? This isn’t even a fight. Jie Tianran might be building fast, but their steps aren’t at the same quality. Brother Chu Feng’s steps are beautiful and glowing, whereas Jie Tianran’s steps are just mud bricks. Who knows? His steps might just shatter the moment he steps on top of them, causing that old thing to fall to his death,” Fei said while munching on his goose.
“That would be for the best,” Little Fishy replied.
The others couldn’t be bothered to answer.
Chu Feng’s stairs were very close to reaching the golden throne. He was only a few steps off. Victory was within sight.
But for some reason, his progress suddenly stopped when he was just short of the final step. The final step refused to appear. In contrast, Jie Tianran’s dirt steps were quickly catching up.
“What’s going on? Did a problem occur?”
Zi Ling and Little Fishy’s nervousness peaked. It was apparent to anyone that a problem had cropped up.
Meanwhile, in God’s Era, Chu Feng was enveloped in a thick blue aura that resembled armor. He looked awe-inspiring. By this point, the blue aura’s power was already comparable to rank eight Heavenly God level.
However, Chu Feng didn’t look happy in the least.
The blue lightning that had been crackling above him had scattered, suggesting that the tempering was over. Yet, he was still a single step away from reaching his destination. This missing step meant that he couldn’t enter the linkway and reach the top of God’s Era.
He... had failed.
“It’s fine, Chu Feng. We can do without God’s Era’s final power,” Eggy consoled.
“But how can I rival Jie Tianran if he obtains God’s Era’s final power?”
Chu Feng was not only disappointed at having failed to obtain God’s Era’s power. More than that, he was worried about the safety of his loved ones.
“Don’t worry. We’ll figure a way out when the time comes,” Eggy replied.
Those words only made Chu Feng feel worse. He knew that Eggy had means to drastically raise her cultivation, but the last thing he wanted was for her to lose her life helping him. He would rather be the one to put his life on the line, especially since he possessed similar means.
It was just that the price was too much for him to bear.
“Chu Feng, the spirit formation gate isn’t appearing. Does that mean your tempering isn’t over yet?” Eggy asked.
Chu Feng was still stuck in this realm even though the blue lightning had dissipated. The entity here hadn’t declared the result, either. Perhaps the trial was not over yet.
Those words sparked a sliver of hope in Chu Feng’s heart.
“You have failed,” a resonant voice echoed from space.
The result had been announced.
“Elder, is my tempering imperfect?” Chu Feng anxiously asked.
“It isn’t time yet,” the voice replied.
“Are there other ways?”
“That will depend on whether God’s Era’s power remains after this. The other person has cleared the preliminary trial.”
Chu Feng anxiously looked at Jie Tianran’s linkway.
Jie Tianran had successfully forged all of his steps and had been transported into the linkway. His body looked insignificant in contrast to the steps; every single step resembled a mountain before him. However, there was no need for him to climb at all, for a surge of energy was lifting him toward the peak.
Moreover, a massive silhouette had manifested around Jie Tianran. This silhouette was even larger than the steps, which made it seem like Jie Tianran was climbing his way to the top. Anyone observing God’s Era could tell that Jie Tianran had succeeded.
“Elder, are there more trials?” Chu Feng asked.
The voice had used the term ‘preliminary trial’, which suggested that there were more difficulties ahead.
In response, the voice simply chuckled.
A surge of teleportation energy enveloped Chu Feng and transported him back into space. He had returned to the location where he was standing before.
The Seven Realms Sacred Mansion hadn’t laid an ambush for him, though he rather they had done so. His tempering might have failed, but the blue aura he had built up still lingered, though it was steadily dissipating into the surroundings.
If the Seven Realms Sacred Mansion had laid an ambush for him, he could have easily massacred them. Even Jie Tianran wouldn’t have been a match for him in his current state.
It was a pity that the Seven Realms Sacred Mansion wasn’t here, and Jie Tianran was still inside God’s Era.
Meanwhile, Jie Tianran kept glancing at Chu Feng’s linkway. Despite having claimed the upper hand, he looked extremely uneasy.
“What’s wrong? Are you still worried despite being ahead?” the old entity asked.
