Chapter 284 - 50: Chaotic Legion

Chapter 284: Chapter 50: Chaotic Legion

Usually, an army collapses in sections, with a small group’s panic spreading to the rest.

But the Centaur army before them was already retreating wholesale.

’Don’t they have enforcers?’ Robson wondered.

Ordinarily, with any semblance of command, an army shouldn’t be in this state. At the very least, they shouldn’t be fleeing in such a desperate, disorganized panic.

The way they were running, his Cavalry Team could charge in and simply crush them!

Seeing that the enemy was indeed retreating, Robson cast aside his suspicions. On the battlefield, opportunities are fleeting.

"Knight Commander Elon, are you ready?" Robson asked, turning to him.

Knight Commander Elon was already staring intently at the battlefield. His heavy breathing made it clear he was incredibly fired up.

Knight Commander Elon snapped back to the present.

"Rest assured, my Lord Viscount. The Fengman Knight Order is at your command!" Elon even offered a military salute.

"Good. Next, I need you to—no. I will personally lead the charge!" Robson declared. He had originally planned to let the two of them handle it, but he was only two thousand-some experience points away from reaching the Golden Eighth Tier. The paltry experience from the goblins was nothing, but he couldn’t afford to miss out on these Centaurs.

"I will charge alongside you. Tell all the Soldiers to avoid getting bogged down. The main objective is to break through to the enemy’s camp. Understand?" Robson looked at the two men.

"Rest assured, my Lord."

"Understood."

Robson nodded and said nothing more.

"Cavalry Team! Assemble! Follow me!"

Claude took a few long strides and vaulted onto his horse. He unhooked his helmet from the saddle, and as he settled it onto his head, he glanced back at the Frank Cavalry.

On the other side, Knight Commander Elon was doing much the same.

.....

On the battlefield, over a thousand human Cavalry thundered forward, kicking up a vast cloud of dust as they charged the Centaur legion.

"The enemy is charging! It’s their cavalry!"

"Run for your lives! It’ll be too late if we don’t go now!"

Seeing the enemy charge, the Centaur legion descended into chaos once more. This time they finally scattered, the main body of troops scrambling desperately toward Wayne Mountain behind them.

Dosa stood frozen, taking a long moment to react. He looked at the tide of human Knights surging toward him, then thought of Chief Castro.

’The Chieftain... he probably won’t blame me too much, will he?’ A flicker of wishful thinking sparked within Dosa.

Once born, such a thought was impossible to suppress. He watched the surging tide of human Cavalry, about to crash over him. And on this beach, he, Dosa, was the only one left standing.

’Screw it, I’m getting out of here...’

Having made up his mind, Dosa hesitated no longer. He spun around and chased after the main force, running toward Wayne Mountain.

....

"For our Lord! For the kingdom!" Claude roared, leveling his spear and thrusting it at the Centaur in front of him.

The Centaur had no time to dodge. With a few guttural whimpers, it collapsed, and the cavalry charging behind trampled its body.

Scenes like this were playing out all across the battlefield.

Although Centaurs had four legs, they were still part human. Their equine bodies simply couldn’t compare to a true, four-legged horse.

Besides, the quality of the two forces wasn’t even in the same league. An Extraordinary Corps like the Fengman Knight Order was, of course, in a class of its own.

Robson’s Cavalry Team was composed mainly of Tier Five Cavalry. After months of bloody warfare, not one of them was to be trifled with. They could even put up a fight against an ordinary Extraordinary, much like a Tier Six Soldier.

The Centaurs, for their part, favored cumbersome stone axes. These weapons were difficult to wield; by the time a Centaur had heaved its axe into the air, one of Robson’s cavalrymen had often already run a spear through its heart.

Some Centaurs, upon being overtaken by human Cavalry, even tried to turn and fight back. All that awaited them was the glint of a silver spear.

The situation on the battlefield quickly became one-sided—or to be more precise, it had been one-sided from the start.

Relying on his exceptional physique, Dosa quickly outpaced the others and reached the front of the fleeing pack.

He paid no mind to the comrades falling around him. All Dosa could think about was saving his own skin. ’The army? The war? To hell with all of it.’

Cavalry battles were always swift. As the rout progressed, Dosa finally reached the camp with barely a hundred followers left.

The human cavalry behind were still relentlessly hunting them down.

"What are you doing? Get this gate open for me, now!" Dosa shouted as he reached the entrance of the Wayne Mountain Beastman Camp, only to find it securely barred.

Yes, the camp had a gate, albeit a crude one created through Magic or some other sorcery.

"Sir! But behind you..." From a stone platform inside the Beastman Camp, a Centaur Warrior pointed at the human Cavalry pursuing Dosa.

Dosa glanced back, and his face instantly went pale. He hadn’t realized the humans were already so close behind.

"Open it, now!" Dosa roared, his anger flaring.

Seeing the Centaur Warrior still hesitating to open the gate, Dosa ripped the hatchet from his belt and threw it, killing him.

"Open it for me! Hesitate for even a second, and I’ll execute you all under military law!" Dosa roared at another Centaur Warrior.

Seeing his comrade’s grisly fate, the other Centaur Warrior was scared into silence.

"Quick! Let our brothers in!" the Centaur Warrior yelled to the others.

After a moment, the camp gate finally opened a crack. Dosa didn’t wait. Relying on his Silver-rank strength, he smashed his way through the gap. The Centaurs and Gnolls guarding the gate were sent flying.

"Why isn’t this gate closed yet?!" Dosa glared at the surrounding Soldiers.

"But, sir, our comrades are still..."

"Fucking close it! Can’t you hear me?" Dosa roared.

"Ugh!" Seeing the dumbstruck Centaur Warriors, Dosa strode forward to close the massive gate himself.

Through the gap in the gateway, Dosa saw a Knight wreathed in silver light charging toward them from the distance.

’So fast!’ Dosa’s face went white. He didn’t know the enemy’s level of power, but the sheer radiance of that light told him this Knight was not to be trifled with.

"What are you gawking at? Give me a hand!" Dosa yelled at the Centaurs beside him. The gate was simply too massive for him to move by himself.

The other Centaurs and Gnolls, slow on the uptake, finally scrambled up from the ground and rushed over to Dosa.

"You’re courting death!"
