Chapter 283 - 50: The Chaotic Legion
Chapter 283: Chapter 50: The Chaotic Legion
Seeing the arrows about to fall, Dosa twisted around and charged back toward the Centaur Warriors who were still rushing forward.
As he ran, Dosa shouted. He had no choice; the volley emerging from the forest was simply too dense. To continue the attack would be suicidal.
Unfortunately for Dosa, his plan was wishful thinking; the situation wouldn’t allow for it.
The entire Centaur army was already in a full charge. They had been thundering down from Wayne Mountain—could a force with that much momentum simply stop on a dime?
But upon hearing Dosa’s shouts, the Centaurs at the front did halt their hooves, looking back in confusion at Dosa as he fled to the rear.
This sudden stop caused a chain reaction with the mass of Centaurs still charging from behind. Swarms of them crashed into the backs of those at the front, even trampling several to death.
The entire army suddenly ground to a halt, plunging into utter chaos.
’How could this happen?’ Dosa’s face went pale as he watched his Centaur Warriors all around him, some tripped and fallen, others crushed to death by their own comrades.
They hadn’t even seen a shadow of a human, yet he had already lost so many. How could he possibly explain this to Chief Castro afterward?
However, Dosa’s worry didn’t last long. Just as the army descended into chaos due to his incompetent command, the rain of arrows in the sky was about to land.
"No... no!"
"Don’t do this!"
Dosa looked up at the sky in despair. The black cloud had reached its apex and was beginning to pour down upon the Centaur legion.
Dosa could almost imagine Castro’s rage. He would be slowly ground into a meat paste with a stone axe.
"Don’t do this! I’m begging you!" Dosa abruptly changed his mind again and ran toward the direction of the arrow volley, having lost all sense of reason.
Facing the imminent storm of arrows, the Centaur Warriors were in a complete panic. With crisis upon them and no useful orders from above, they could only try to save themselves.
"Arrows! Human arrows!"
"Shields! We need shields!"
"Ah! What are you doing?! Why are you lifting me up?"
Some swung their stone axes, others covered their heads with their hands, and some even tried to hoist their comrades up to block the danger.
Everyone watched in despair. The entire Centaur legion was now in the most agonizing stage an army can face: disaster was imminent, their commander was useless, and they were completely unprepared.
What came next was the collapse of morale, followed by the army’s total rout.
"Run! Just run!"
"That Dosa, I knew he was no good!"
As expected, some Centaurs began to realize it was time to flee.
Unfortunately, it was already too late.
The sky-blotting rain of arrows finally began to pour down, and the dark cloud made devastating contact with the Centaur legion.
"Ah! My eyes!"
"Damn it! You humans, don’t—"
The Centaur Warriors discovered in despair that the moment the arrows fell, any preparation was futile.
The arrow volley, like a swarm of locusts, relentlessly reaped the lives of the Centaur Warriors.
Everywhere the arrows touched became a graveyard.
A swinging great-axe was useless against such a dense volley. A comrade held up as a shield was shot full of holes, and the scoundrel who lifted him was judged by arrows flying in from the side. As for covering one’s head with one’s hands, it was laughably useless.
After the volley passed, it seemed to the Centaurs as if they had forgotten time, feeling as though an eternity had gone by.
When General Dosa opened his eyes again, not a single Centaur was standing near him. To be precise, apart from a few hundred lucky ones who survived on the fringes, of the hundreds of Centaur Warriors in the center, only a handful of Extraordinary beings remained alive.
This one volley had killed at least two to three hundred Centaurs! And that wasn’t even counting the wounded.
General Dosa stared blankly at the scene before him. He had been a soldier for some years, and this was definitely one of the most terrifying sights he had ever witnessed. ’Even the legendary Hell can’t be worse than this, right?’
"Arrows! The enemy’s arrows are coming again!"
"That bastard Dosa! He led us here to die!"
"Hurry up and run! Are you going to die for a few cows and sheep?"
Arrows!
The word sent an involuntary shudder through General Dosa’s body, as if by reflex.
Looking back, he saw another volley rising from the distant forest, though it was much sparser than before.
But even if it was sparser, the Centaur legion’s morale was already shattered. No one could forget the scene from moments ago—it was like a punishment from the gods!
As the arrows flew, the Centaur Warriors screamed themselves hoarse, calling to their comrades as they scrambled to run to the rear, terrified of being a single step too slow!
Unfortunately, was retreating ever so simple?
The army had charged forward as a massive, unified block. Now, trying to scatter completely was an impossible task.
Dosa watched the scene with a dazed expression. His mind was no longer even processing the arrows.
"What... what do I do now..."
...
"Sir, it’s time. Shouldn’t we make our move now?"
"Sir, the enemy is starting to run!"
That impatient tone—it could only be Claude.
Watching Ais’s Bow and Crossbowmen continuously slaughter the enemy on the battlefield, Claude couldn’t hold back any longer.
Robson observed the battlefield carefully. After two volleys, the Centaurs were routing faster than he could have ever imagined.
