A sigh of relief immediately left Xiang Ling’s lips and she visibly relaxed at the news. "As long as he’s not dead, I’m sure everything will be fine." She whispered more to herself, but felt Zhang Xuan squeezing her fingers lightly in assurance.
"Don’t worry too much. Let’s wait for a little bit more. I’m sure he will return to the Chen Manor as soon as possible."
Xiang Ling nodded her head in agreement. She too believed that the first place Xu Wei would go after fleeing from that prison like place would be the Chen Manor.
"What are we going to do next? When is the High Council’s meeting?" She asked, knowing fully well if there was anyone who could answer her questions then it was Zhang Xuan. The man always knew about everything that was going on in any corner of the Five Realms.
"The meeting will be held within next few days." Zhang Xuan informed her and the news left Xiang Ling stunned.
"A few days? Why are they waiting for so long? Have they forgotten that a day in Upper Realms is equal to an year in the Mortal Realm? If we waited for a couple of years to pass in the Mortal Realm, then chaos would completely take over that place." She was having a hard time understanding why the High Council needed so much time to take action.
"Ah Xiang, calm down first. I know that you are worried for the safety of the mortals, but there are things that needed to be taken care of before High Council can decide on how they are going to handle this threat of possible war."
Hearing Zhang Xuan’s words, Xiang Ling finally calmed down and tried to relax. Her worry for the safety of the people of the Mortal Realm was making her forget about the issues that the Upper Realms were probably facing at the moment.
Noticing the worried look on her face, Zhang Xuan decided to reveal the rest of the information he had about the ongoing actions. "This morning, the Heavenly Emperor sent a group of heavenly guards to Mortal Realm under the leadership of Water and Air Immortals. They are going to help the Cultivation Sects and the Imperial family in keeping the Dark Force from further attacking the Mortal Realm. The Cultivation Sects are also ordered to increase their security and keep eyes on any possible threats."
Xiang Ling nodded her head in approval as the solution was indeed the right one for the current emergency situation.
"As for why the High Council’s meeting will not be taking place immediately is because the Heavenly Empress has demanded so. Considering the threat Wei Guang and Li Xian are facing in the Mortal Realm, it’s important to bring them back to the Upper Realms as soon as possible. Thunder Immortal have been assigned this task. Those two will probably return to the Upper Realms in next couple of days. Besides all these, the High Council is also waiting for the responses from the other two Realms."
"Are they planning to blame the Demon Realm for all this?" Xiang Ling found herself asking even though she already knew how the Elders of the council were going to play the game of blame with the lower Realms. No matter how much she wanted to deny it, it was a known fact that the Immortals didn’t like demons at all because of the history they shared. And since the Spirit Beast Kingdom had always been on the Demon Realm’s side, they too had become a thorn in the eys of the immortals.
The only reason Upper and Lower Realms had pretended for so long to live in peace together was because of the peace treaty that the five realms signed during the fall of the other two Realms. The current mess was the perfect opportunity for Immortals to blame the demons and openly eradict them without breaking the treaty.
"What are you thinking?" Zhang Xuan asked when she remained silent for way too long.
Xiang Ling let out a sigh before she slowly shook her head. "Before Xin Cheng and Dao Ming left, they asked me to hide the fact from the council that I know anything about their true identities or Shadow Lord’s escape from the Abyssal Lands. While everyone knows that I got reborn inside the body of a full grown woman, no one knows that I also carried my divine memories during my life tribulation... except for Heavenly Empress and Su LiangLin. They believe that as long as I will refuse to admit, I will be saved from getting punished."
"But?" Zhang Xuan asked, knowing fully well that there was something more that she wanted to say.
A small smile bloomed on Xiang Ling’s lips as she looked at the man who seemed to have started understanding her every thought. "But if I indeed remain silent, no one is going to speak in support of the Lower Realms. For a moment, I can trust the Heavenly Empress for keeping my secret, but I can’t trust anyone among the Immortals to speak in the favor of the Demon Realm and the Spirit Beast Kingdom. Even though they did committ a crime by keeping the matter of Shadow Lord’s escape a secret from the other Realms, they aren’t the only guilty ones. Someone needs to be on their side, even if it is barely going to make any difference."
A smile appeared on Zhang Xuan’s lips as he patted her head softly. "If that’s what you want to do, then I will respect your choice. No matter what will happen, I will be standing right by your side. Let’s face the future together."
Xiang Ling quickly nodded her head as a huge smile bloomed on her lips. She watched him entangling their fingers together and felt extremely grateful for the fateful day when he appeared inside her space from out of nowhere. Squeezing his hand lightly, she added, "En! Let’s face it together."
