Chapter 303: Xu Wei’s Confession
Chapter 303: Xu Wei’s Confession
The next morning when Xiang Ling woke up, she found the bed empty as both Xin Cheng and Dao Ming had already left. Just like the rest of the Mortal Realm, the Chen Manor also became gloomy as no one was really in high spirits.
As the day turned into night, the first snow of the year finally greeted the Mortal Realm while everyone grieved the loss of their Emperor. Wu Tian ascended the throne and became the next Emperor while Su LiangLin became the Empress.
The leaders of the Cultivation Sects and Jingsheng Academy were summoned to the Palace by the Emperor to talk about the attacks and to come up with a plan as how they were going to address the situation. But despite all the countermeasure, the damage was already done. The fear had taken over the general public.
After dinner, Xiang Ling took her leave and went for a walk. She knew that Wei Guang and Li Xian were worrying about her, but she was in no mood to talk to anyone. Even though she knew that dying in the Mortal Realm didn’t really mean anything for a Supreme Immortal like her, it didn’t change the fact that she knew that she was about to die soon. She couldn’t help but worry about how she should wrap up everything in the Chen Manor and Blooming City to make sure that everyone would be safe after her departure.
"Master."
Xiang Ling recognized Xu Wei’s voice as he appeared behind her. She wasn’t expecting anyone to be able to find her at her current hideout, but it seemed like she was wrong in her judgment.
"Can I join you?" The man asked as he kept his distance from her and waited for her permission.
At first Xiang Ling thought about dismissing him, but then she changed her mind. Patting the tiles next to her, she spoke, "Come. Have a seat."
She didn’t need to look at his face to know that the man was smiling in happiness. He quickly made his way toward her and settled down on the spot next to her. "How about this?" He asked before he took out two wine jars from somewhere and showed them to her.
A smile made its way to Xiang Ling’s lips as she grabbed one of the jars and patted him lightly on his head. "You are indeed the best." She praised him before she uncorked the jar and took a sip of the delicious wine. The night was just perfect for drinking. There was a half moon in the sky, light snow was falling slowly and covering everything in a white blanket, and her heart was filled with sadness.
All of a sudden, she felt warmth engulfing her as Xu Wei suddenly draped a cloak over her shoulders before he tied the knot in the front to keep it in place. While she stared at him in surprise, the man diligently fixed her cloak to make sure that she was completely covered and comfortable. If that wasn’t enough, he then went ahead and placed the hood over her head to keep the snow from covering her hair and face.
"Thank you." She whispered the words as she suddenly felt emotional. Everyone in the Chen Manor treated her nicely and took care of her, especially Fu Xiao, her sister-in-laws, and her husbands. Still, no one came as close as Xu Wei. The way he took care of her made her feel like he was her real family.
She had noticed during the past one year how the young man knew every little detail about her. He knew what she liked or disliked. He always knew about her whereabouts. He always followed her around from a distance to make sure she was safe. During the nights she worked till late, he was always standing outside the door, waiting for her to finish the work and go to bed. He always made sure that she was comfortable. Whenever he looked at her, she only found warmth, gratitude, and care in his eyes. Till this date, she couldn’t belive that she earned his utmost loyalty just by saving him from the Underground Slave Market.
"Master?"
His voice pulled her attention to him and she quickly shook her head as if to get rid of her thoughts. "How did you find me?" She asked as she took another sip of the wine.
The man uncorked his own wine jar as he answered, "I always know about your whereabouts. I wouldn’t have disturbed you if you haven’t found such a unique place to hide yourself." His eyes immediately darted around to look at the roof of the building where they were currently sitting.
Xiang Ling chuckled softly at his words before the two of them went completely silent. She took a while before she spoke again. "Do... do you have a place in this world where you will like to go?"
Xu Wei didn’t even took a second before he answered, "I’m going to stay by your side for the rest of my life."
Xiang Ling turned her head to look at the man and found him frowning at the wine jar in his hand. "But what if... I died-"
"Then I will follow you to the Upper Realms. No matter wherever you will go, I will accompany you. Unless... you don’t want me to." His voice was barely a whisper as he muttered the last few words.
"You know about my identity?" Xiang Ling was surprised by his words.
The man slowly nodded his head before he answered, "From the very beginning. You have been using your divine energy to heal my Primordial Spirit for so long. As a demon fairy, I can obviously differentiate your divine energy from normal cultivators’ spiritual energy."
Xiang Ling felt so stupid for overlooking such an obvious fact. She had given away her true identity such a long time ago, but the man never made it obvious that he knew anything about it. "Xiao Wei, I have always wanted to ask you this. How come you were the only one who sensed that intruder’s presence in the manor that night?"
