Xin Cheng’s sharp teeth penetrated her delicate skin and sank deeper until blood rushed to the surface and entered his mouth. As he took the first taste of her blood, a gasp left Xiang Ling’s lips.
Her entire body was shivering as she tried to cope up with the mixed sensations of overwhelming pain and pleasure that were taking over her body and senses. Her legs went weak and it was only Xin Cheng’s strong arms around her waist that were keeping her from falling on the floor.
A moment later, she felt a warm energy exploding deep within her as her own divine energy surged to the surface. It took a while for her fuzzy brain to notice that Xin Cheng was channeling his divine energy into her body through the bite.
All of a sudden, too much was happening at the same time for Xiang Ling to keep a track of them. Her body was completely out of her control and she was barely hanging onto her consciousness with a thread. She almost felt like she was going to pass out when she felt the double energies merging inside her and turning into something powerful before it settled down somewhere deep within her.
Xin Cheng finally pulled his teeth out and licked her skin to seal the wound, removing any trace of what he just did. As he pulled his face away, Xiang Ling’s hand immediately went to check her neck. "What have you done?" She asked while staring at the man who held a determined look in his eyes.
"I have marked you as mine." He confessed as he looked straight into her eyes. "From now on, you are one of my people. My woman. I will protect you just like I will protect my people and my Realm. This mark is a clear warning to those from the Upper Realms and High Council. If anyone dared to lay even a finger on you, I will make them regret it ten-fold."
He sounded so serious, so threatening, that it took Xiang Ling a while to react. The realization slowly dawned over her - she had been marked as the woman of the Demon Emperor.
"Why did you do that?" She asked as she felt fear taking over her. "Don’t you think you are facing enough problems already that you have to add another trouble in your list? Are you so determined to make the High Council punish you? You are leaving yourself no way out!" She felt enraged at his stupidity. He kept himself under control for so long only to lose at the very end.
Xin Cheng pulled her into a hug as he replied, "It was stupid of me to keep you pushing away from me all this time, Xiang Ling. I always thought that staying away from you was the best decision. That I will keep you safe in that way. It was only now when I have started experiencing the fear of losing you that I realized just how foolish I have been acting all this time. I care for my people, but I also care about you. I’m not going to act like a coward anymore. I’m going to protect you with everything I have."
"Ah Cheng...!"
"It’s already too late. This mark can never be removed. Not even when you will return to Celestial Realm. So, you better accept that this crazy and stupid man is now officially yours." Xin Cheng whispered in her ear before he finally pulled back.
Xiang Ling was at a complete loss for words and her feelings were a mess. She was happy, but she was also scared. She felt proud of him for finally chosing her over his fear, but she also felt worried about the consequences that he would face for marking an Immortal.
Her thoughts were disturbed when Xin Cheng placed another kiss against her lips. "I’m leaving the Manor tonight with Ah Ming. We are following the track of the Dark Force. For now, follow my advice and don’t contact anyone from the High Council. Pretend that you know nothing about our identities and the secret of Shadow Lord’s escape. No one in the High Council knows about the secret of you having your Immortal memories and divine powers, except for the Heavenly Empress. Since you advised me to play smart in front of the High council, you need to do the same."
Xiang Ling knew what the man was trying to say, but this plan could only work if the Heavenly Empress decided to keep the secret for her. However, looking at their past record, she wasn’t too sure about that.
"Stop thinking too much, Little Star. Just don’t go out of your way to ask for trouble. Stay away from the High Council as long as possible, and when you finally have to face them, make sure that you will not become their scapegoat either." Dao Ming’s familiar voice filled the room as he appeared beside the duo.
"Ah Ming." Xiang Ling felt happy to see him after so long. The man immediately pulled her into his arms and hugged her tightly. "I should apologize for making you worry. I’m not acting like a good lover, am I?" He asked as he pulled away from the hug and looked at her face.
"At least you are aware." Xiang Ling mumbled with an unhappy happy face that made the man chuckle while Xin Cheng just smiled.
"Once we are done with this mess, I will make sure to apologize to you properly. For now, please accept my interest." He said right before he pressed his lips against hers.
Xiang Ling welcomed the kiss as she parted her lips and returned the kiss. A smile finally appeared on her lips when they pulled away from each other moments later.
"When will I see you two next?" She asked them.
"We can’t say for sure. It can take few days or maybe weeks. We want to track the Dark Force before the High Council’s meeting. But we will return to you as soon as possible." Dao Ming promised.
Xiang Ling nodded her head with a smile while the realization hit her - this might be the last meeting between the men and the Mortal Xiang Ling.
