"This place looks even spookier in the day compared to how it looked last night." Su LiangLin whispered while she hung tightly from Wu Tian’s sleeve as if her life depended on it.
Feeling frustrated, Wu Tian turned his attention toward the woman and asked in a whispered voice, "Why don’t you go and clung to your friend? You are putting way too much trust in me to think that I will actually try to keep you safe all the time."
Su LiangLin gave the Crown Prince her scariest glare as she responded, "Shouldn’t you blame yourself for that? If you would have kept your mouth shut the previous night, then she might not be this mad at us. This is a wonder that she hasn’t abandoned us already. Besides, you have no other option but to keep me safe. Or are you waiting to prove to Ah Xiang that you are not capable of keeping your own people safe?"
Wu Tian let out a frustrated sigh and continued to walk forward. His gaze landed on the group of people walking ahead him, especially on Lady Chen. The previous night when he talked about some people in their group being a liability, he was not only referring to Young Master Wei, but also to Su LiangLin and her personal maid. Still, that couldn’t deny that he was indeed at fault. Looking back, he regretted his choice of words.
After last night, neither Lady Chen nor her husbands had spoken a single word to Wu Tian or anyone else on his team. The four of them were being ignored like thin air.
Though he still believed that these three were their liabilities in their current situation, he had also realized that he was in no position to comment on Young Master Wei as the man hadn’t bothered him and his people even once throughout their journey. He should have kept his thoughts to himself instead of voicing them out, or maybe he should have looked at Su LiangLin first instead of looking at Young Master Wei.
Thinking about his wife, he took a glance at her and noticed just how tightly she was clutching his sleeve. It was almost to point of tearing the fabric into pieces with her sharp nails. He opened his mouth to once again tell the woman to let go of him, but the words got lost somewhere before they could have made their way out of his mouth.
He noticed how she was scanning their surroundings with very observant eyes and it almost made his lips curl into a smile. The more time he was spending with her, the more he was noticing how different she had become compared to her past self. She was nothing like the woman who used to pester him all the time and went to every length possible just to marry him. This new Su LiangLin, she was more wayward, confident, silly, mature, and even somewhat cute compared to her past self. While her presence still bothered him, it did so in a different way that he couldn’t really explain.
Wu Tian was pulled out of his thoughts when his ears registered the question that came from Su LiangLin, her voice filled with shock and her eyes were wide open as she stared up ahead at something. Her reaction made him immediately look up ahead and his gaze once again landed on Lady Chen who had one of her hands stretched out in front of her while she was casting a spell.
"What are you doing?" He asked while moving forward to catch up with the group in the front.
"Since you didn’t do it yourself, we have decided to give you a helping hand. Ah Ling is casting a spell to activate the array. Let’s take down the array and be done with it so that we can find our way to Dongzhi City." Zhang Xuan provided with a little shrug of his shoulders.
"Activating the array?"
Wu Tian had one of his hands grabbing Su LiangLin’s arm unconsciously while every single cell in his body became active to focus on every little shift in their surroundings. Activating an unknown array was a huge risk, but if they really wanted to get out of the Enchanted Forest as soon as possible, they needed to get rid of the array which had been making them walk in circles around the forest that refused to end.
Xiang Ling finished the spell and pulled her hand back while her eyes also scanned the surroundings like others. At first, nothing happened at all. The forest was filled with an eerie silence and there was no movement of any sort, and then all of sudden, they all noticed the rustling at the same time.
One moment everything was silent and the very next moment, a powerful wind came rushing toward them with a pile of bamboo leaves that were meant to attack them. Wu Tian used his powers to shield himself and Su LiangLin, and noticed Young Lady Chen doing the same to shield herself and her husbands.
With the wind, the leaves went away too, but not without inflicting any harm. The little but sharp cry of Zi Yun had everyone turning their attention toward the young woman who had a cut on her wrist and blood was oozing out of it.
Xiang Ling made her way toward the maid and healed her wound within a second, but there was a grim expression decorating her beautiful face, and Wu Tian knew exactly why.
"This is a realistic illusion array. Though the things we will see here are most likely to be just illusions, but if those things hurt you or killed you, you will actually die for real."
