Chapter 210: Leaving Dongzhi City
"I still don’t think that you should set out in such a bad weather. We just witnessed a storm yesterday evening and look at that cloud filled sky. It’s not giving me a good feeling." Zuan Hu couldn’t help but voice out her concerns like the mother hen she was. And much to her dismay, it seemed like no one was taking her worries seriously.
"First sister-in-law, stop worrying so much. This is not the first time I’m leaving home, nor it will be my first time traveling in snow. I’m already an expert. You just need to look after the house, our family, and business. I’ll be back within a month and then we will open our new stores." Xiang Ling tried to make the woman calm down and not stress too much.
To make a couple of deals with the silk merchants, Xiang Ling decided to visit the Capital City. Her plan was to teleport there, stay a few days to finish her business, and then return.
However, she soon realized that returning within a week would cause so many questions as to cover the distance between Dongzhi City and Capital City alone needed 4-5 days. Adding the snow in the picture, it might even take 7 days. So, she needed to stay for two more weeks in the Capital City before returning. Realizing that she could use this extra time to relax from all the work pressure, she actually started anticipating the trip.
She planned to leave Dongzhi City in a carriage before finding a safe place outside the city and teleporting away to the Capital City. She planned to use the same trick on her way back to Dongzhi City. Her plan was almost perfect.
But then the evening before, both Hao Ran and Chen Ming denied her the permission from traveling alone, and their wives were quick to agree with them. When Xiang Ling’s husbands got wind of the news, they quickly volunteered to accompany her on the trip.
Xiang Ling was surprised to see Xin Cheng being one of the volunteers after Zhang Xuan. To be honest, all six of her husbands were ready to accompany her but that couldn’t be done. Hence, it was decided that Xin Cheng and Zhang Xuan would accompany her on the trip. She didn’t mind taking them along because they both knew her real identity and could even help her teleport to Capital City and then back to home once her business was done. Yet, she should have known better than to celebrate too quickly.
Out of everyone she expected to create trouble in her plan, Wei Guang was not even on the list. The man requested to join her with his carefully chosen emotional words - "... we haven’t spend any time together in a while. Let me accompany you on this trip so that I can look after you and we will able to spend some time together."
Listening to his sincerity, even her brothers and sister-in-laws supported him and told Xiang Ling to bring the man along. In the end, Xiang Ling didn’t have the heart to deny her husband’s request and succumbed despite knowing that having him along on the trip would only make the trip longer as she wouldn’t be able to use powers to teleport between cities.
Hence, here the four of them, ready to depart for Capital City early in the winter morning. After the heavy snow the previous night, the entire city was covered in a thick layer of snow and the weather was chilling.
"Jie Jie, stop worrying already. Can’t you see that she’s taking an entire army with her to protect herself?" Chao Xing was quick to use the chance to lighten the mood as she pointed out the fact that Xiang Ling had three more comapnions with her.
"That’s true, Second sister-in-law. You all don’t have to worry about Xiao Ling’s safety. The three of us will keep her safe and healthy." Zhang Xuan was quick to confirm and his words finally brought a small smile on Zuan Hu’s lips.
Stepping closer to Xiang Ling, the woman adjusted the white fur cloak that was wrapped around former’s body and spoke, "Be careful on the way. Make sure to prioritize your safety and health. Also look after your husbands. And most importantly, return quickly."
Xiang Ling nodded her head at her first sister-in-law’s every senetence/order which gifted her a glare from the woman but she only giggled in response, causing Zuan Hu to smile as well.
With a tight hug, Zuan Hu stepped back only for Hao Ran to take her place. He patted Xiang Ling’s head softly before speaking, "Your sister-in-law has already said everything. So, just follow her advice."
Xiang Ling once again nodded her head and watched as Hao Ran stepped away and she got another little pat on her head from Chen Ming who just gave her a little smile but didn’t speak. Lastly, it was Chao Xing’s turn and much to Xiang Ling and everyone’s surprise, the woman pulled Xiang Ling into a tight hug before whispering, "Have a safe journey and return quickly, Mei Mei."
Feeling warmth taking over her heart, Xiang Ling quickly wrapped her hands around her second sister-in-law and returned the hug while once again nodding her head in understanding. Within past seven months, her relations with her brothers and their wives had improved even more than her relation with her husbands.
Pulling away from the hug, Xiang Ling waved at her family as she bid them farewell for a short period and climbed into the carriage before Wei Guang, Xin Cheng and Zhang Xuan joined her as well.
She was busy adjusting the cloak around her when she noticed the sudden tension inside the carriage. She quickly looked up to see what was the matter and found herself looking at a very unhappy Xin Cheng glaring at an equally unhappy looking Zhang Xuan. The latter was trying to put his foot on the opposite seat beside Xin Cheng which didn’t sit right with the Demon Emperor.
A sigh escaped Xiang Ling’s lips as she realized exactly what was awaiting her on this journey.
