Xiang Ling returned to her bed-chamber after taking a long bath and washing her hair. Every cell in her body was filled with energy as she felt refreshed after spending hours cultivating and then cleaning her body. Dressed in a silk nightgown that left her arms, shoulders, and collarbone exposed, she made her way to put out the lanterns.
She was done blowing them out when she heard the knocking. Recognizing the person outside, she hurried to open the door and welcomed Wei Guang inside.
"Did I disturb you?" He asked as he let her pull him toward the bed.
Xiang Ling shook her head in negative before she made him climb on the bed and then joined him. "Get rid of these." She demanded while pulling on his outer robe.
Wei Guang looked slightly stunned at her actions. With hesitation, he asked, "Are we... not sleeping?"
Despite the darkness that was filling the room, Xiang Ling was able to see the red tint that took over the man’s cheeks. Chuckling, she dragged his outer robe down his shoulders and threw it away before she pushed the man to lay on the bed and surprised him again when she lay down beside him with her head resting on his shoulder.
"Why ask such a question? Of course, we are going to sleep." She said while snuggling closer in his embrace.
Her pretense of being innocent in the confusion she created made a smile bloom on his lips. "You sure love teasing. Don’t you?" He called her out while tightening his hold on her.
"Of course, I do. Have you ever seen your embarrassed and shy expressions? You look so cute." Xiang Ling said as she looked up at her husband’s face and found him looking back at her.
"You mean I don’t look cute otherwise?" Wei Guang asked with his eyebrows arched high in question.
With a smile on her lips, Xiang Ling shook her head in negative before she answered, "No. You look dangerously handsome the rest of the time."
Wei Guang’s gaze darkened at her words and she noticed fire blazing in those deep orbs as if he was thinking of devoring her right there and then. Yet, he held himself back and said, "If I didn’t know better, I would have thought that your plans are different from just sleeping."
Xiang Ling’s smile became bigger as she inched her face closer and placed a kiss on his chin. "Trust me. I have really pure intentions when I dragged you to my bed. It’s just... you are way more tempting than you realize. It’s hard for me to resist."
Wei Guang didn’t waste his time on words. Instead, he pulled her chin up and covered her mouth with his in a sweet kiss.
Xiang Ling moaned softly as she pressed her entire body against his side and kissed him back intensely. Her fingers found their way into his hair as they continued to move their lips against each other’s in a beautiful and sensual dance.
Just when Xiang Ling was ready to move and straddle him, Wei Guang ended the kiss and tucked her head against his shoulder. "Let’s sleep."
The groan of disappointment that escaped Xiang Ling’s lips caused him to chuckle. The two of them remained like that, laying comfortably in each other’s embrace, for a while before Xiang Ling spoke. "Ah Guang, what if one day you find out that I’m not Chen Xiang Ling. What will you do?"
The question was so abrupt that it not only shocked Wei Guang but even Xiang Ling who wasn’t even sure why she ended up asking that question.
Wei Guang was silent for a moment before he asked, "Why are you asking that?"
Realizing that it was the perfect chance to know the answer, she decided to press for a response. "Just asking. I keep wondering what will happen if one day you will find out that our real lives are way different from the lives we are living right now. That I’m not Chen Xiang Ling and you are not my husband. What will happen then? Will you think of me as someone who took advantage of the situation?"
While trying to not make her questions sound too weird, she ended up making her question sound even more weird. But she couldn’t tell him everything clearly.
Wei Guang remained silent and his silence made her more anxious with each passing moment. It was only after certain long moments had passed that he finally spoke.
"Let me ask you first. Are you the same woman who helped me that night when I was drenched in rain and suffering through a high fever?"
Xiang Ling quickly nodded her head but didn’t dare to look up at his face,
"Are you the same woman who cooked for me, took care of me, and tried to make me comfortable in this manor?"
Xiang Ling once again nodded her head in positive.
"Are you the same woman who went out of her way to help those refugees and the people of the Lin Family’s Village? Are you the same woman who took in all those helpless children to give them a better future?"
Xiang Ling once again nodded her head in positive and felt her eyes getting wet with every question he asked.
"And finally... are you the same woman with whom I spent my first night as a husband?"
Once again, Xiang Ling nodded her head and waited for him to speak. And when he did speak, she felt her heart melting with his every word.
"If that’s the case, then let me inform you, Xiang Ling. The woman I fell in love with is the one who lived all these moments with me. I don’t care about her identity. As long as she loves me back, I know that she’s the one for me, and nothing will change that."
A single tear rolled down her cheek. She finally looked up at him and nodded her head before confessing, "I love you, Ah Guang. I love you a lot."
