Chapter 155: The Elimination Rule
Chapter 155: The Elimination Rule
"What did you do to them?" Xiang Ling asked as soon as Xin Cheng returned after five or so minutes. Her heart was beating wildly in her chest as she waited for an answer.
"Just cleaned up your mess." Came the response from the man who didn’t even spare her a glance and just closed his eyes and relaxed against the wall of the carriage.
"Stop saying that!" Xiang Ling protested after hearing the same words that Dao Ming said just to her moments ago. "I did try to ignore everything and wanted to leave that place, but somehow... still ended up failing."
"Then maybe you should try harder next time." Xin Cheng wasn’t becoming soft at all and the more he reprimanded her, the more frustrated Xiang Ling felt.
"Why are you both so angry?" She demanded and her question finally succeeded in making Xin Cheng open his eyes. His deep crimson eyes stared directly at her as he asked, "Do you know who’s the master of this slave?"
Very slowly, Xiang Ling shook her head in negative. She watched as anger doubled in the Demon Emperor’s eyes and she suddenly wanted to be anywhere but in the carriage at that moment.
"You don’t know who this slave is. You don’t know whom he belongs to. You don’t know what will happen once his master will realize that someone has stolen his slave. Yet, you dared to interfere!" Xin Cheng’s voice was sharp as he pointed out her mistakes one by one. "Do you know that this can bring unnecessary trouble for the Chen family? Is that what you want? Aren’t you all about keeping a low profile and following the Heavenly rules? How come you still ended up doing something this stupid?"
Xiang Ling chewed on her lower lip as she silently listened to the Demon Emperor giving her a lecture. She knew how right he was, but it was already too late. What was the point of getting angry at her now? Who told them to leave her alone on the street in the first place? So easily she shifted the blame on the two men. Good thing was, she kept these thoughts to herself.
"I think stolen isn’t the right word. Maybe you should say kidnap..." Even she wasn’t sure why these words left her mouth. Maybe she wanted to completely infuriate the Demon Emperor. "... but kidnap doesn’t sound right either..."
"Chen Xiang Ling!"
Xin Cheng’s sharp and loud voice made Xiang Ling shut her mouth completely. She neither dared to say anything nor to look up at him. With her head bent down, she kept her gaze fixed on her fingers that were fidgeting with her dress.
"Stop getting so angry at her. You are scaring her." Dao Ming finally decided to side with Xiang Ling when he noticed how small her face had become after listening to Xin Cheng’s angry words.
Before Xin Cheng could have said anything, Xiang Ling quickly looked up and asked, "Who said I’m scared?"
Her question made Dao Ming arch his eyebrows high. While looking at her curiously, he asked, "So, you aren’t scared at all after causing such ruckus?"
Squaring her arms over her chest, Xiang Ling held her head high and replied, "Let’s use the rule of elimination here. His master can’t be anyone from the Upper Realms. As for that person being a Demon or someone from Northern Sea Realm..." her eyes turned to look at the two men with a huge smile on her lips as she continued, "... I’m sure they wouldn’t dare to do anything to me since I have the protection of their Kings."
Xin Cheng scoffed at her words while Dao Ming only shook his head with a little smile playing on his lips.
"The only possibility left is that his master is from the Mortal Realm. Look, it doesn’t sound scary anymore." Xiang Ling felt proud for being able to solve the issue so quickly. If the master of this slave was indeed a mortal, there was barely any reason for her to worry.
"Fine. Let’s say you aren’t scared. Then what’s with that expression of yours?" Dao Ming asked as he pointed at her face while mentioning about her expression.
"It’s because you both have been scolding me for so long." Xiang Ling provided the answer in a barely audible voice. Yet, both men heard her loud and clear.
A sharp gasp escaped her lips when Dao Ming suddenly pulled her chin up with his hand to make her look at him. The gesture was so foreign, yet intimate, that she forgot about everything else. All she could focus on was the man who had inched his face so close to hers that she was able to feel his warm breath fanning her face.
"Spare me." Xin Cheng sounded so done with Dao Ming’s actions. But when Xiang Ling took a glance at him from the corner of her eyes, she found him staring right at her.
"You don’t need to look if it bothers you." Dao Ming returned while he kept his gaze fixed on Xiang Ling and his fingers moved from her chin to trail softly against her cheek.
Xiang Ling’s heart fluttered inside her chest as she felt him inching closer. She anticipated his next move. His lips came so close that they were almost brushing hers but then...
Her attention was immedtely pulled away from Dao Ming when she heard the slave coughing. She didn’t even realize it as she pushed away Dao Ming and moved toward the slave who was about to hit his head against the carriage wall. She reached out on time and cushioned the hit with her palm.
She was so focused on the injured man that she had no time noticing the looks of shock and confusion on Xin Cheng and Dao Ming’s faces.
"I almost forgot about him. He doesn’t look good. I will need to dress up his wounds. Move aside." She said in a hurry as she ordered Xin Cheng to move to the other side of the seat.
