Chapter 88: A Good Big Brother Places Righteousness Above Family Loyalty
Chapter 88: Chapter 88: A Good Big Brother Places Righteousness Above Family Loyalty
Over the next two hours, three more pirate squads received Yang Bo’s special attention. These three squads met a similar fate to the first, with one exception: a pirate mecha had reacted fast enough to activate its laser cannon’s auto-attack system, landing a hit on Yang Bo’s mecha.
He gained a whole string of Mecha Pilot and Warship Maintenance skills!
"That son of a bitch was actually a B-class Mecha Master!" Yang Bo felt a pang of heartache as he looked at his battered and pitted mecha.
Fortunately, the energy metal could absorb energy and repair itself automatically; it just needed time.
Yang Bo simply stowed the mecha away, as this was already the last squad he could find. In truth, he had stumbled upon quite a few other squads of pirate mechas along the way. Unfortunately, they all had hostages. With hostages present, it was hard to make a move—he couldn’t possibly kill the innocent captives along with the pirates.
The news that there was an extra mecha aboard the Baisha Transport Ship absolutely could not be leaked.
After a moment of thought, Yang Bo headed toward the exterior of the Baisha Transport Ship. There were definitely still pirate mechas outside communicating with the warship. He needed to take those guys out first!
As soon as Yang Bo arrived outside the Baisha Transport Ship, he spotted two mechas. Beside them stood several pirates, all clad in energy armor!
After exchanging a series of hand signals, Yang Bo led the group back inside the Baisha Transport Ship. Although their communication devices worked outside, the vacuum of space made speaking impossible without isolating themselves within their energy armor. However, Yang Bo’s energy attribute was different from the Pirate Leader’s, and he feared being exposed at such close range.
Once inside the Baisha Transport Ship, the other party spoke urgently.
"Boss, this is bad! Our warship has been hijacked by those bastards!" the voice rang out from the communication device. This was the device Yang Bo had looted. While it had a recognition system, Yang Bo’s current body—aside from his soul—belonged entirely to the Pirate Leader.
With all of the body’s biological samples matching the Pirate Leader, gaining authorization for the communication device was a breeze. After all, it wasn’t exactly some highly sophisticated piece of technology.
"What? Number Three, what did you just say?" Yang Bo recognized the pirate speaking, who was clad in silver battle armor. He had clearly heard others refer to this man as ’Third Brother’!
"Boss, look at this!" Pirate Number Three pulled out a device and handed it to Yang Bo.
Yang Bo took a look; it was a virtual holographic projector.
"Hello to the pirates aboard the Baisha Transport Ship. Please allow me to introduce myself. I am the Chief Sheriff of the March Star!
"This warship is now under my control. I will command it to capture all escape pods, so don’t even think about slipping away from right under my nose. I will bring you all to the March Star to face justice!
"Furthermore, I have already used the communication system to notify the fleet to head to your stronghold. Your families and your wealth will be seized by our planet fleet. If you want a lighter sentence, then I suggest you treat the other citizens well!
"And don’t forget, it’s not just me who has occupied this warship. There are other citizens of the March Star aboard as well!"
The video showed a seemingly ordinary young man sitting in the warship’s cockpit. Behind him, the original crew members of the pirate battleship all wore collars around their necks. Weren’t those the same collars the pirates usually forced onto others?
A fat man was also particularly conspicuous in the frame. Yang Bo recognized him—wasn’t that his boss? To think this guy had actually run off to the pirate battleship! Did he do it out of a fear of death, or was he hoping to fish in troubled waters aboard the enemy vessel?
The most eye-catching detail, however, was the blue Rift in the young man’s hand, radiating a faint azure glow!
"Boss, what do we do?" The pirates on the scene were already in a panic. After all, their warship had been hijacked by someone else; trying to escape now would be incredibly difficult!
In the next second, Yang Bo made a move that defied everyone’s expectations. Slashing upward with the energy weapon in his hand, he struck!
Warship Maintenance +32!
The pirate in the silver battle armor stared at his boss in sheer disbelief. In an instant, his body began to float upward as a mixture of red and white fluids sprayed out, forming floating trails of blood-red streaks. Once a person died, their energy armor’s gravity system ceased to function, leaving the corpse in a state of weightlessness.
The other pirates were dumbfounded. What was going on? That was Third Brother! He was the boss’s closest confidant!
"You have the fucking nerve to ask what we should do?
"Every time we go out on a job, you only think about yourself! If you hadn’t abandoned your post, would the main control room have been sabotaged by someone else?
"The only reason our brothers are in such deep shit this time is because of you, you piece of trash!
"For the sake of a little petty profit, you’ve put all of us in danger!
"Now our families and our wealth are all gone! What do you think will happen to us when we face the law? It’s all your fault, you son of a bitch!" Soon enough, the furious voice of their Pirate Leader echoed through the other pirates’ communication devices.
Yang Bo felt quite surprised himself. He hadn’t expected the guy to actually be an A-class enhancer. And he had just killed him, just like that?
Well, wasn’t that obvious? Who would ever put their guard up against their own boss?
Hearing this, the other pirates also began to feel a swell of latent anger. If Third Brother hadn’t run off mid-heist to gawk at energy weapons, the Baisha Transport Ship’s main control room wouldn’t have been sabotaged, and they wouldn’t be in this mess right now. If the Baisha Transport Ship’s control room hadn’t been compromised, they would all be getting ready to split the loot by now!
This scene was also witnessed by the people aboard the pirate battleship, leaving them somewhat taken aback. Fortunately, the voice from the communication device cleared things up, and the Chief Sheriff of the March Star instantly understood the situation.
He realized that this explained why there had only been small fry in the transport ship’s main control room when he went there. Not a single one of them could put up a fight. It turned out that this greedy bastard had slipped away halfway through. If there had been a capable fighter in there, he definitely wouldn’t have succeeded so easily!
"Let’s go. Everyone follow me down first; we’ll figure out a plan," Yang Bo commanded. "Send a message to that punk on the warship. Tell him he’d better not mess with me, or we’ll all go down together!" Yang Bo honestly didn’t know what to do at this point. His only thought was to kill as many pirates as he could, one by one. After all, pirates yielded quite a lot of skill points.
Furthermore, Yang Bo had a sneaking suspicion that since the warship was now occupied by the enemy, a peaceful resolution was entirely possible under such desperate circumstances!
And if anyone dared to object? That would be the perfect excuse to just kill them off!
The other pirates nodded in agreement. The two mechas and several pirates hurriedly followed Yang Bo back to the stadium!
After watching the video, the pirates in the stadium fell into dead silence. The Baisha Transport Ship had completely spiraled out of their control. Even if they killed all the hostages, there was no way for them to escape!
And if they simply surrendered without a fight, actually standing trial and facing the law, the consequences would be even more severe. They might end up rotting in prison until they died of old age!
"Brothers, this is all my fault," Yang Bo said, breaking the silence as he looked at the grim faces around him. "Number Three... I had high hopes for him. But the trouble he’s caused this time is simply too massive. It’s my fault for not keeping him in check earlier!"
"Boss, don’t blame yourself. That’s just how Third Brother was. Honestly, we’ve been wanting to say this for a long time: it’s fine for him to love money, but he could have at least waited until the job was done before taking it!
"We know you’re grieving, Boss. After all, you and Third Brother were the closest. No one could have predicted things would turn out this way!"
Hearing these words, Yang Bo silently wished that he could encounter a few more "good brothers" like that!
